Story is not good and full of Sony Walk and Listen© moments that kill the pacing. Once you're done with the story, you can finally fight the real monsters and grind the endgame! Sadly, the monsters are piss easy and boring, you just hop on your bird and autorun to them from the start, they do their designated environment transition a few times (your loyal bird will uber you again, don't worry about having to engage with the game) and then they suddenly die without doing more than a handful of different attacks.

The performance is absolutely awful. My PC is good, so I ignored the complaints about it coming into the game, but the constant crashes, stuttering and connection issues gave me no choice but to warn everyone that the game just doesn't work properly. It looks like too, it's not like you're getting beautiful screenshots from this deal or anything.

Lastly, CAPCOM just doesn't seem to care. They put their game out, they got their bag, and now we're stuck holding it. I'm not trying to get revenge on them by robbing them of any purchases with this review, my real feelings on this game are: Don't buy it. I wish I hadn't bought it, and now I won't get my time or my money back. The game is simply bad and it doesn't deserve your attention. The only positive I got is that I went back and played World which was fun.

I got into gardening because a few years ago I visited a friend's parents and his dad fetched a bunch of stuff from his garden and it tasted the most divine. I didn't like tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries and most of other veggies because the stuff I got in supermarket was bland as hell.

Don't try to fight in the hallways, they're just there for the cinematic experience. More importantly though, don't rely on the clutch claw so much; it's mainly for making monster parts softer and more vulnerable. It wasn't even in the game on release, so you shouldn't need it to beat any of the monsters. You carted because you were relying on that and taking damage from running face-first into the monster's hitbox instead of positioning in a way that lets you attack while avoiding attacks. For GS in particular, you can tackle in the middle of charge attacks for reduced damage while maintaining your position too. That inflicts KO/Exhaust damage to give you more openings and lets you skip to the next of the three types of charged attack more quickly, which people will often do to get to True Charged Slash ASAP. There was something about using a slinger burst to skip to a later charge attack level too, but I stopped playing before that was added so I don't know how you do that. Also, it may be a good idea to start making mega potions if you haven't yet.

There are some mods that revert the hitzones (what decides if hitting a certain part feels GREAT or no) and monster behaviour back to their delightful state before the clutch claw was introduced. In the year of our Lord 2025, there's no excuse for a bigass company to rush a game just to meet financial targets and please shareholders - and even less excuse for subpar performance.

Waiting around for patches shouldn't be the norm and saying “MHWorld was like this too” is a terrible argument - They've had more than enough time to learn and improve. Other studios that struggle with optimization often bring in outside help and Capcom has the budget and resources to do the same, but both their internal culture and pride won't let them put another company's name on their game.

The content updates and new monsters that come with them - one per update, though they advertise it as "monsters" (plural) because of that monster's tempered version (what a joke) - are coming slow as hell compared to its closest counterparts (World and Rise). So if the money isn't going toward keeping the content pipeline running, why isn't it going toward the game's optimization? The answer: They're probably just shoving it up their asses.

So really, there's no valid reason for anyone with self-respect to defend a massive corporation and its corporate dinosaurs when the game runs poorly on recommended - or even above recommended - specs. Unless you're on Capcom’s payroll, stop trying to defend this game and grow up.

It's just a matter of learning monster patterns. Pretty much every attack they do has a tell with few exceptions and once you understand those it becomes easier to find opportunities to attack. If you can't get the timing for TCS right off the bat, just focus on draw charges like you did in the hallway for now, or chop the monster's feet with less committal attacks. The tackle itself can be used as one of those less committal attacks, which might make the monster flinch or trip and give you an opening for a bigger attack like TCS. If you hit the head with enough tackles that can lead to a KO for even bigger damage opportunities.

A KO occurs when you hit the monster's head with weapons that inflict KO damage enough; sort of like a status ailment that builds up over time. Once you reach the threshold, the monster is knocked out with stars around its head like in this webm >>527079061

Normally blunt weapons like Hammer or Hunting Horn are used to inflict KOs, and the tackle is a blunt attack on what is otherwise a cutting weapon. However, blunt damage does not equal KO damage; it's just that every blunt weapon also happens to inflict KO with its attacks. You've also got things like exhaust coatings for bow, exhaust phial for swaxe, and impact phial for charge blade which inflict KO but do not deal blunt damage. Generally though, you can just think of KO as hitting the monster's head with a blunt attack until it's knocked out.

Attacks that inflict KO also inflict Exhaust, which causes a short stagger with a saliva-looking effect once its threshold is reached. You don't need to hit the head for that one, but it is still inflicted if you hit the head. The value of this, aside from the stagger, is that it deals damage to a monster's stamina which means it'll reach the exhausted state faster. That's the state where it's drooling and might go get food to restore its stamina. Normally their stamina depletes over time from performing attacks and such, but Exhaust speeds it up. You can see the green stagger effect in Rise right at the start here, but I don't remember what it looks like in World >>527080236

Tenderizing is what happens when you grab on to a monster part with the clutch claw and use a tenderizing attack like you did a couple times in your clip. I believe what it does is make the monster hitzones weaker/softer, which then makes all your weapon attacks deal more damage to them. However, I'm not sure about the specifics on that one. I do know it's not meant to be your main method of attack though.

Also, monsters take different amounts of damage from cutting, blunt, and shot damage on each part of their body. Slicing can cut tails and blunt can get KOs along with a couple of rare blunt-only partbreaks. When people talk about hitzones, they're talking about how much damage their weapon does to that part of the monster. A shitzone is a part where your weapon doesn't do much damage, which would probably be a monster part you'd want to tenderize before attacking. Different hitzones also take different amounts of damage from each element if you're using an elemental weapon. There are also attacks which completely ignore hitzones and deal "raw" damage like gunlance shells or phial explosions. That's why the distinction between blunt damage and KO damage is important; you can KO with an impact charge blade, but it's dealing raw damage with those phials rather than blunt so you're not going to break a Barroth's head with it.

In any case, just smack the monster's head with blunt attacks and it'll get KO'd. If you miss then you'll still build up exhaust. I believe the monster builds up a resistance to both of those statuses each time you inflict them like every other status, but I could be wrong there. Generally though, don't go out of your way for KOs too much if your weapon doesn't specialize in them like hammer does because you aren't going to get that many of them each hunt.

when something is really bad, it can eclipse other problems. So I think it doesn't mean much if the bad reviews only talk about performance. there could be other things that are awful but how would you know? you need to be able to play the game to find that out.

If you want to do the spinning jump attack in World, you just have to charge while going down a slope. I think you can run up certain walls to do it too? A monster getting angry can override the exhausted state, so you don't see it too often. You don't necessarily need to specialize in a bunch of different weapons aside from going for certain part breaks, but it's fun and I'd recommend just trying out whatever looks cool to you.
