I don't think Meursault = Oswald really holds any strong weight but I would think he came very close to distorting or did distort at some point before joining LC (likely when he was being judged for being emotionless) and there may have been some rise in his emotional state for some reason when he used Chains to stop Erlking (inherent desire to be helpful or proving his abilities)
