when you think about it vampirates were really a shameless gash grab. like 90% of their roster is just reskins. half of their roster is just zombies with pirate hats and different types of guns. if you want to be generous and say "but that's the point of vampire pirates" the rest of their roster is even worse. syreens are just vaguely nautical themed wraith reskins. dogs and bats are literally just vc dogs and bats and aren't even pirate themed. mornghouls don't have a single pirate or naval themed aspect to their design or description. basically the only actually original vampirate units are the crabs and the necrofex, which is arguably just a reskinned bone giant.

For me he wasn't that difficult to deal with, I just throw at him shit units and occasionally spirit leech him. I had more problems with his slayer pirates because you are forced to take damage and no early greenskin unit really counters them. Even mangler squigs underperformed. It feels like Azhag is supposed to have different unit composition early on in order to deal with Ungrim better but he doesn't.

my friends and I play mp campaigns together. you cant set different campaign difficuly from the host but the battle difficulty is determined by the person battling. I.E if you have yours set to VH but your friend has it set to normal, in battles you start the enemy units will get the stat buffs but in battles started by him they wont. Always said that total war games lack modularity, compared to something like Crusader Kings 2 where you can disable shit you don't want.

Warhammer should have optional unit caps, among other things.
Also, custom battle scenarios for all total war games should be expanded, so that you can control both sides (if you want, and also bring back hotseat mode), place units in any parts of that map to set up different battel scenarios and so on. Also, use any faction units when play as any faction in custom battles, at least, if not even for the campaigns for historical games (maybe area of recruitment system).

Basically, a lot of shit needs to be done to turn total war into proper playing-with-toy-soldiers sandbox.
