I'd say even going back to 1.18 when Yoshi-p took over and how much the game improved up to 1.23 was a really good sign, even though the game itself wasn't "good" or something you'd tell friends to pick up and play.

Always move your own body parts if you're manually doing GPoses. It's been a massive help for me since Day 1, and if you CAN, one day, just go through all the Shaders one by one. It does wonders. Get GPosingWay first

Learning basic things like the Rule of Thirds and how to focus your subject really goes a long way - a bit of DOF and a 3-point lighting are the easiest way to make the subject pop out from the rest of the shot
Obviously shaders can really give a shot a boost, but it can easily get out of control with the amount of options available. Sometimes less is more. I usually like a nice, clear preset that just helps things pop a bit more most of the time (and then a darker, more muted one for certain scenes/characters)

My only real tip is that good lighting can let you get away with a lot! I usually use a mix of Ktisis custom lights and the ReLight balls for highlighting. This pose is a bad example for that since it has lazy lighting but still.

I can tell you how, though.

So it works exactly how I said it would probably work pre-update for the new shaders, that they would keep the old outdated shaders so old gear doesn't break and the new stuff would use a new shader.
To start, you change the shader on a piece of gear to the new shader.
If you don't know how to do that, under a new mod, advanced editing, look on Import From Screen tab to find the .mtrl for the gear piece. It'll be the _a mat iirc the _b is the parts of your skin that may show.
Then well, you have to figure out what all the new gizmos do to get the new material effect that you're looking for.
You copy that into the material tab, then export it, then you need to replace the path with the game's path in File Redirection.
Go back to material edit, change the
>characterlegacy.shpk
to
>character.shpk
and you'll get a new editing UI that's a lot more complex for the new shader. Make sure live preview is on. It's very easy to mess up dyeability on the new shader too at least for me.
There is probably a better guide video on this, but I haven't found it...
I'm working on one so I can try to post an example screenshot for you at least.
