Twitter and reddit are just the worst places to house a community. They form echo chambers and reward hot takes and engagement bait. Perfect for an endless outrage factory.
>3) Incompetent leadership
Any time the “leaders” of this community are forced to make a decision, it turns into a disaster. The Hax debacle speaks for itself. Just terrible communication and transparency from the TOs. But this can also be seen with the controller discourse. It takes years for decisions about rules to be made and often we end up with shitty half-measures. Basically, any time TOs have to make a decision, it gets dragged out over years and turns into yet another endless social media drama shitshow. For player discipline cases, there exists no clear criteria for rules violations or punishments. The leaders are simply not qualified to handle the responsibility they have assigned to themselves, often leading to confusion and a divide in the community.

Gatekeeping is only really possible if you have a private club where you can screen people up front. But a hobby like a video game is available to anybody. For Melee, all you need is a controller and a computer that can run Dolphin. There’s no practical way to gatekeep an entire demographic of people in that setting. There is nothing that could have been done to keep trannies out of Melee. Nothing that would have worked, anyway.

Gatekeeping isn't real, it doesn't exist. All that screaming into internet forums does is make things more annoying for everyone. Is it "gatekeeping" if the only reason you're around is sunk cost?

So I have no interest in the morals of this situation, but for anyone not familiar on Alcohol addiction and how it works, here's a crash course. (Note: Pic related is general expected effects at each level. BAC= age + weight + number and type of drinks + tolerance [experience + genetics])

For pic related, this is the types of effects you see on an average person drinking a standard drink. Ludwig in this video mentions that Mang0 is at 0.25 BAC (25%), and then reaches 0.30 BAC (30%).

So with these levels in a person with no regular exposure/tolerance to alcohol, you would see some pretty serious effects. Around this level is where you start to become blackout drunk, where you dont know what's happening, won't remember, and won't be able to use your body normally.

However, if you have built up tolerance, your body has adapted to the depressive down-regulation of your nervous system, allowing you to function normally at these high alcohol levels. At this point your nervous system adjusts by sending greater amounts of the electro-chemical signals throughout your body.

Where this becomes scary/dangerous is when you try to quit at this point. Your body still sends these high signal outputs even without the presence of alcohol, since it got used to it, and this is extremely dangerous since it can lead to a number of serious health problems. Most people that reach a high level of tolerance for a long period of time need chemical assistance and supervision to reset their body's electrical system, because they risk of death.

TLDR: The fact that Mang0 reaches .30 and potentially higher and is still functional indicates a serious and potentially dangerous level of tolerance. He likely can't quit cold turkey and needs to actually get help to get off. Don't fucking drink as much as he does, this is serious shit.
