Dunno what thread to use but it's my fault for posting when I know it’s shitpost hours it’s always shitpost hours here but I wanted to share.

For Sonic’s birthday I’m starting my proper fanfic writing effort. It’s mostly a repost of a fic I wrote 3 years ago, so I just tweaked a couple of things with the added knowledge we’ve gained since then. I’m currently working on a fanfic that’s way larger in scale than this one with a real deal OC and everything, but for now I wanted to put this forward.

Rouge having more relevance than Blaze isn't mere preference. Blaze has a dimension of separation, and Rouge is one of the oldest main cast Modern characters. Rouge is more connected by default.

When I say more organic relationship with Team Sonic, I mean she has pretty much an official dynamic with all of them with exception of Tails. Sonic, Amy, Knuckles, even Cream. It's prime material for being the 2nd main girl of the series. Meanwhile Rouge only really interacts with Knuckles and has to fight with her position beside Shadow and Team Dark that more people associate her with.

I hate when people pair characters with the wrong pairing unless it's a non-canon oc because fuck the west.

HARD disagree. Part of what makes Windnic cool is the fact that he's a man of few words, and inspires others to take initiative and develop as characters. A character like Windnic is practically designed around propping up an extensive supporting cast, and any instance of Sonic hogging the spotlight is always an issue with the writers rather than the character himself.

I think Rouge equally possesses traits that make her a good second girl. Which she essentially has been since 2001 since she's older than Blaze anyway. I think Shadow Gens highlights this a bit when Rouge says how she sounds like Amy when she gets into friendship stuff with Shadow. Rouge contrasts Amy in a way that is not less meaningful than the way Blaze would—esepcially since Amy uplifts Blaze but is more wary (or optimally, competitive) of Rouge

I'd argue just as Blaze (or any character) could use expanding, so can Rouge, though in her case it would just be dynamics. Rouge could benefit from more interactions.

And it's one of the most common complaints about his character, but at least he's "local", and can presumably find ways of securing of the emerald while he's away. Unlike Blaze, Knuckles isn't a regent and doesn't have a whole kingdom to look after.

If they thrust Blaze into the role as "girl 2" people would just complain about it being ooc like knuckles. They'd also probably have silver tag along too, because they'd feel obligated. So basically, Blazefags are going to be unhappy either way, but at least with her absent they're not bitching about ooc shit.

Rouge, while not really considered one of Sonic's "buddies", doesn't have as many hurdles when it comes to justifying her presence. If you want actual autism, refer to the screeching hordes of shadowfags who cry bloody murder whenever rouge appears without shadow 3 feet away, like they did with dream team and this show.

Imagine this, what if they actually wrote about her doing stuff in her dimension then? The same goes for Knuckles, they could write stories about him with the setting being the island. But instead of coming up with something that works for these characters, they'd rather not touch them at all or write an excuse that makes them present with the sonic cast only for them to not do anything worth a damn. This is a writing issue, not a character issue.

It's an issue of wanting all the characters to be hanging out as friends instead of having them off doing their own thing, I agree. Unfortunately we're at a point where stories either revolve around Sonic or Shadow rather than a central conflict like in the adventure games. Instead of having them cross paths naturally (if at all) they're rather group everyone in teams. Sonic & Tails, sometimes Amy? That's fine, it makes sense. The Chaotix? Sure, they're a natural trio. Everyone else should be independent.

As a fan of Blaze, I agree entirely. Knuckles and Shadow are the kinds of characters that need a good reason to be present in a story due to their characters not being like Sonic in the sense they just do things for the hell of it. Then you have Blaze and Silver who are the same way, but even moreso because they have whole worlds they seek to protect, and them being in Sonic's world absolutely needs a reason since they're technically abandoning their people every time they make the jump.

You missed the point. They didn't think of that at first, they just wanted to throw her in with Team Sonic and act friendly with them like she was always part of the group until realizing people would question that. The purple theory bounces off the idea that pink and purple are the girls equivalent to the boys red and blue. If your main girl already uses pink as a color, it's very common to make the second one purple. Rouge was never intended to be the second main core team sonic girl character, so they didn't take into account that her pink and white would overlap with Amy's. So now they're trying to slide her into the purple color now they they're pushing her to the forefront beside Amy. And personally, I am a little bothered by how her car no longer matches her color scheme and is purple for the sake of it now when it was pink in the previous game.

I really don't care about any of this bullshit complaining. Sonic is in a good state. The movies are good. Prime is good. Crossworlds looks amazing. Why can't you just be happy for how things are?

Personally I try to be lenient with idw, more than i see some people here are, but its really the characterizations. Characters are the soul of sonic's stories and the main appeal for autists to keep coming back. When you mess that up its like cheating on your partner. Idw builds entire thematic plotlines around bad character writing decisions, mainly Sonic but other characterizations warrant scrutiny.
One of the best characterizations the comic does for Amy is in the camping trip arc where nothing happens except a forest fire. Why is the good characterization trapped in the lame stuff? Otherwise, at least classic idw and most minis always deliver

IDW is not a comic about Sonic the hedgehog and it also is not a comic that is about it's game cast. It's a comic about the OCs the IDW staff made while sonic characters occasionally cameo in their story. And when they do appear in these stories, they are usually written out of character (or written with a "different interpretation" as some retards say) while they also peddle the comic as being canon and part of the game timeline.

Half of the cast act wrong and this is jarring because every game up to Forces is supposed to be canon to it and yet they act completely different. It's a problem but at the same time, not really. IDW Sonic really does fucking suck at times but at the same time, its a licensed tie-in comic. Most of those are trash. Archie Sonic, same thing.

On one end, you have people expecting too much, on the other end, IDW Sonic is mediocre. I stand on the side of low expectations knowing that there is no chance IDW is going to pump in the money needed to get actual talent on the book but also not shitting on it at every turn.

To put things in perspective, there are TWO licensed comic books that are real bangers right now: Transformers and Space Ghost. Every other book is straight trash. Even Captain Planet despite having the same writer as Space Ghost.

I think it's because the IDW team is torn between listening to criticism/admitting they were wrong and giving the specific audience on twitter they've curated the past eight years what they've come to expect from IDW sonic.
