He had 6 years to evaluate why Baldesion Arsenal was bad design, and he doubled down and put out Forked Tower which is even worse. He has no fucking idea what he's doing, what players want, and what the game needs. The content cycle has been stale since Stormblood, nobody is left that knows how to weave the shit code in innovative ways. The best thing for FFXIV at this point is to just let it die. The game's been bad since Endwalker but it took until Dawntrail for people to wake up. Cut the losses, keep it on maintenance mode, and make FFXVII as a 3rd FF MMO/multiplayer live service title from the ground up. FFXIV is an embarrassment at this point.

Again and again the issue is not that there's no content it's that it's boring, unengaging and doesn't really come to form a cohesive, interesting whole. You have to be some kind of mental retard to actively choose to spend your time on something like grinding fishing in FFXIV or farming another useless progress bar in Occult Crescent that at best is gonna give you some shitty weapon skin that's indistinct from hundred others they already added. Where's RPG elements? Where's stuff to do with other people and your friends? XIV is really just a smelly corpse of a themepark MMO concept, so when they don't put new rides in, people mald! It's that simple. The entire format is fucked! And Yoshinigger being the lying suit that he is, promised the world with Dawntrail only to, completely expectedly, underdeliver, and his hype men Xenosys Vex and Arthars did not help the situation.

Still though, cost or not, it took them six years to fix Viera heads and it takes them over a year to add a worse version of chat bubbles than what you can do with plugins, even if it wasn't about the format, the dev team is obviously checked out.

hardcore players are too accustomed to more demanding fights to really internalize this or relate to it, but the jump from casual content to EX+ is quite large. if there were actually a bridge between these two things that introduced tank swaps, light parties, hard hitting predetermined attacks, an occasional bodycheck, and memorization mechanics with lethal consequences, then midcore could fall into that category. As it stands, though, you're either doing normal difficulty stuff which is actually like Very Easy mode, or you're doing all the other shit which is like Savage and then minor/several gradients darker or lighter to get you extreme or ultimate. It's easier to go from EX to savage than it is to go from normal to EX for this reason.

The criminal part of all this is that so much of this DT content that disappointed lots of casuals by being only for raiders, could've served as that bridge if these devs gave half a shit. Hell, the next EX they make could just be a little easier and then they could advertise it as a bridge between normal and EX, for those "scared midcore players" to get their feet wet and get into the action. But it never happens. Instead the EX trials adopt more obtuse mechanics on par with a low tier of savage, and the savages become so hard that statics break up and bitch on reddit, and meanwhile the normal mode stuff is full of visual pollution as a stand-in for difficulty. These devs don't know how to prepare their players for harder content. And then that burden falls on players like us, who wind up with shitters in our PF groups who need to be taught how to use arms length. Fuck me, man. Hate this shit.

Too much of the recent shit has been focused on tranny savage raiders. Despite the high amounts of faggotry in the game, the majority of players were not savage raiders. This might change now that droves of people are unsubbing, but I played since ARR and rarely ever did savage. It simply takes too much time and most of my friends didn't want to do it. The content has limited appeal to most players. It's absolute retardation to focus resources on something at most 10% of the playerbase does (and that's being generous). The game was lacking good content for normal people and now this expansion pushed that to the fullest they can. This is why so many left. It's why the game will likely go into maintenance mode from here on out as I don't feel like they want to save it.

I'll still stand by what I said for years now. Endwalker should have been the end. There's no reason to keep dragging the game out. If they weren't stupid, they would have made a new MMO with an engine that isn't shit. Now they're fucked because their MMO is dying AND they don't have a new one in the works.

Midcore isn't real because most people aren't capable of honestly assessing themselves or their desires. People don't like being graded and compared unfavorably to others. The problem with this ultimately comes from the fact that almost all content in this game is binary: you either clear or you don't. Ironically, wow lucked into this with mythic+. There are levels to how deep you want to go with it, which satisfies basically everyone. You don't need to engage with it at all, you can just do it for vault, you can stop at portals, you can stop at achievements, you can push for titles or ranking. At any point you can stop and say "I'm good now". This is more or less why I think forays qualify as midcore in 14 as well. Although it lacks the ramping difficulty of m+ you don't have to engage with every little bit and still be leave satisfied. This is also why I agree with >>528828402 that extreme and savage are midcore as well. You don't actually have to finish a savage tier, and even if you do it's perfectly fine to take your time. Plenty of guilds in wow won't fully clear a mythic raid, they'll go 4/8 or something and be satisfied.

Nope, it has nothing to do with early experience. WoW developers understood it before everyone else and implemented Dungeon Finder way back in the day when MMO population shifted from autists who played the game to unskilled normies and shy society rejects.

When you press "Find me a random party" you are absolved of all your shitty perfomance. You don't owe anything to those people and you will never see them again.
On the other hand
When you press "Join PF group" you, by that action alone, implicitly say "I'm ready to play with you guys I'm prepared". Psychologically it is a much taller barrier to climb.

The cryptic nature of "hard" content doesn't help either - when your PF is "Skip soar know triple anal mr brappy tactic" you instantly filter out 101% of casual players.

The only real, working "bridge" between casual and hard content is taking a casual player by their hand and dragging them into hard content with you until they learn that it's not scary and are comfortable with cryptic PF lingo.

I've done every ARR/HW/and STB EX blind in DF.
They're doable and most mentors have me on their shitlist because of it, I've sent in so many reports for abuse from mentors and been blacklisted a bunch but it's 100% possible to do
My favorite is when I got Zurvan EX after a 4 hour queue, and Primal Mentors from NN kept queueing in to try to vote abandon to "clear the mentor hazard" from the mentor queue, because they kept getting put in there with me after abandoning.
Eventually they stopped sperging and we skipped soar on the literal first pull and cleared in like 3 pulls.
Here's a screencap from that Zurvan EX party as the mentors typed to me that this was impossible and we instantly skipped soar after the first pull

There's a very large chunk of the game's players who are either too anxious to try this stuff, or gave it a shot and felt like it wasn't for them and didn't go back.
