What do puppets have to do with portals

Honestly I’m just having a lot of fun with this game and wanted to post something positive about it after seeing all the negative reviews.

I’ll freely admit that I’m not a FTP player, but I haven’t spent a ton (only $200) and I’m really enjoying the fast-paced experience and play styles so far.

I’ve never played the original Shadowverse so I’m not doing a direct comparison here. I will say however that compared to the CCGs/TCGs I’m used to (Hearthstone, MTG including physical) the cost here really doesn’t seem out of line from what I’m accustomed to with this genre. Again, not comparing to the original, just the experience of a totally new player.

I was going to wait longer to write a post like this so I could speak with more gameplay experience, but I have a few decks built with reasonable success and am having a ton of fun, and because I almost didn’t start this game because of some of the negative posts I wanted to write from my experience to encourage other new players to try it out!

The haven/rune matchup is pretty much statistically unwinnable, anybody saying otherwise is downplaying or coping. You have zero early pressure so you’re only killing him with bird combos, but bird combos can’t otk so you need at least two combos, i.e. birds + Jeanne in one turn and griffon + engage in another. The odds of you setting this up before the rune player shifts into a 13/13 ward or Satan are basically 0.

Ladder is like 50% rune so if you play haven you’re gonna have a miserable time.

I think the intention behind every class this set was to give them each two decks with cards that let you bridge them to different degrees. Portal's only really so much more successful about this because Orchis specifically is probably the best legend in the entire game in a vacuum and would see play in any deck in the game right now if she was available to them. Puppet is honestly pretty mediocre except that it gets to abuse Orchis which raises it a whole tier.

By comparison like, Face Dragon and Ramp Dragon are both much more realized archetypes than Puppet. They're simply not as good. After that you see a lot of stuff that's really just missing a little bit that would push it over. Like Dirt is actually probably about as good as Puppets otherwise but it doesn't have an Orchis tier top end. Both Haven decks suck but there's clearly supposed to be a storm deck and a control deck. Rose Forest isn't consistent enough, etc.

Abyss is the only one where the design is truly fucked. Everything else is really just a tuning issue and that's normal for any card game release.

Is Rose Queen or Kagemitsu the worst legendary?

I have been playing the game for over a week now on both PC and mobile. I am not F2P as I paid $200 for my first deck. Initially, the economy seems to be very bad (500 gold pack price, lower vial from liquefying silvers, and, critically, no liquefy first 3 copies). I thought it would sucks so bad as a F2P player or a low-spender. One week ahead, I changed my mind. The economy is fine and I can enjoy many good decks. In my current opinion, the only thing that need change is the no liquefy first 3 copies rule.

I am not the luckiest player (no 100 packs key jackpot) and neither I do any reroll. Just straight up normal player that buys all crystal package, plus battle pass. Currently, I have 2 top tier, pretty much fully upgraded decks (puppet portalcraft and artifact portalcraft, 3 if you include hybrid). I also have enough vials from extra cards to upgrade my half-baked decks into good viability (ramp dragon, midrange sword, aggro abyss). The only classes where I don't have enough resources to even make half-baked decks are runecraft and havencraft, in which both have very expensive top tier decks (I am absolutely fine with this, F2P players and low-spenders aren't supposed to have everything). Finally, I have around 7000 gold that I save for next expansion (that is still growing everyday) as I am satisfied enough with my current collection.

So far so good. I am having a blast with this game and I have variety of viable decks. So, what happens that suddenly change my mind and my perspective on the economy? It turns out that the economy is REALLY supported by the freebies that Cygames give (Daily packs, park keys, events, events, events (many of them), bonus packs from here and there, and recently, 3 free legendary packs). So, as long as Cygames keep pumping up these freebies, I think the economy is going to be fine.

As much as I hate the no liquefy first 3 copies rule (and expensive cosmetics lol), I can't give the game negative review anymore.

She's just not consistent enough. Her cost is fine honestly, games go to 10 very often in this meta and she's the strongest wincon bar none in the game since they surgically removed all the hard timer cards that early SV had.
But right now you have to establish her without dying, and also have enough one costs in hand to OTK which isn't really all that likely since you're likely burning cards in order to get to the point where you plop her down without getting killed. Unless someone makes a very clever list you simply can't fulfill both conditions, you'll usually make it to turn 9 in forest either stable because you've been trading but not having enough trash in your hand, or the opponent has lethal on the board and a super evo ward isn't enough to stop them from winning.

C2/Sapphire, not very high but they're all playing full lego's with avatar anyways. I just hard mulligan for Mainyu's, Lion's and Darkhaven's and then beat face so that they're at least 16 HP, but often they end up with 11 or even 5 HP. The 1pp Bird Talisman's are a big plus, so is Ronavero. I've managed to kill Turn 4 going second with just two Mainyu's and two Darkhaven's, because they didn't happen to draw/play any of their two drops in time, and their Smart hit the 3/3 Mainyu instead of the 2/2. Rune also isn't that threatening with just Anne on the board, they really don't have any OTK or fat Storm potential before turn 10 so it's fine to leave her up and take some damage if you can instead shove down a Cum Chalice or bird talisman's instead. Or just kill her with Ronavero.

When they inevitably Kuon, it's better not to pop the Chalice if you happened to get one down, if you can instead Reno + Super-Evo so you can kill their Ward + Kuon with 4 more face damage, and then Turn 8 you should be able to lethal them with almost literally any combination of bird super-evo + Chalice activation + Jeanne unless they happened to play the Heal 4.

No really one strategy, but basically just don't give too much of a shit about your own HP or clearing so long as you know they can't achieve lethal on you on their next turn and be hyper aggressive, because your plan is to kill them turn 7/8/9 and not stall to turn 10.

Playing against Rune feels miserable.
Nothing matters besides the question "Did the Rune player highrolled or bricked?"
It's essentially impossible to win if they highroll high enough as Rune, as they have the highest ceiling in the game by far. And if they bricked, it doesn't even matter what you are playing anyway, you would have won either way by just summoning followers on curve.

So most of the time these just create non-games decided entirely by how well they opened.
