>>528861767>IRIAF liveryBased.
>>528867189funny but incorrect. If anything the US notifying the iranians beforehand is a underhanded tactic to force them to not retaliate too heavily on Israel (as we have seen just a few rockets and even less than the previous days) and to also have return the "courtesy" for the US base attacks so that the US won't have to do something to save face in case someone died.
The only one happy here is the fake concept of Israel.

Steam Summer Sale later, I imagine MSFS 2024 will be on sale slightly, for anyone that's thinking about getting it, it's not quite there yet, SU3 is supposedly out next month which will help, so I'm not going to recommend it but it's not a complete shitshow like it was on launch. DCS and all the addons will be on sale too bar maybe the most recent releases.

>>529008303I used to do that in the King Air, just add it to the checklist like the other anon said
>>529007946no, he just pointed out your self projection. that's not an accusation
>>529009462Damn, too bad I only own X-Plane. It even has an auto-throttle and IRS.
>>529014097Yeah the X Plane one sounds good enough. I think I might get the C750 for MSFS honestly, I wanted the BAE 146, RJ, or the F28 but they're in development for 2024 and I have an airlinery itch to scratch.
>>529018584>the X Plane one sounds good enoughI'm not so sure about that anymore. I've flown ~8 hours with it now in total and the AP has done some funky stuff while descending to STAR's or while descending from STAR to IAF, but that might just be my incompetence I'm not sure yet. Basically it started climbing insidiously even though I had like 40% throttle and had set AP to FLC with a sensible airspeed, so I ended up way too high instead of the target altitude which obviously was lower than where I started descending... My bad obviously because I was distracted and didn't monitor altitude as I should've and I did assume it would descend because it did so at first before I got distracted. I've only had these hickups during approaches, departures (SID's, while adhering to all restrictions) have worked just fine in FLC mode. Also I was cruising at mach ~0.6 and the thing was level until it randomly started oscillating, causing +1000 - -1000 alterations in vertical speeds in a sine wave pattern, until I adjusted the throttle back just a tiny amount.
>>529019376I think in these sorts of planes if you're going to get bugs and quirks it's normally going to be with the FMC/autopilot. I swear I've seen oscillation like that before somewhere, that sounds like a proper bug.
>>529019564I recall triggering similar oscillation patterns 8 years ago on my engineering PID controller course when I was simulating a submarine in matlab. Now, I don't know anything too technical about aircraft, but I'd assume the AP would use something like a PID controller, right?
>>529020080Fucking hell you're right I think I saw it in Stormworks with a PID, and had to adjust one of the values, I can't remember which one, proportional maybe or derivative to stop it overshooting. I don't know much about the autopilots but you can make an autopilot PID where the target value is the set altitude and then adjust the elevator according the current altitude, the P, I, and D values will determine how strongly it responds and compensates.
>>529020278Also it might just be an MSFS-specific thing, but weather injection can cause strange behaviour with autopilots too.

There is no automatic transfer, you have to manually transfer the fuel from the other tanks (though it's recommended to leave the tip transfer on) into the central tank. But you can't just leave them all on as if the central tank is fuel any transferred fuel will go out of the overflow pipe. Very strange system and I'm not sure why it wasn't automated, maybe they wanted to drill it into the trainee pilots to manage fuel.

There's even enigma machines for the radio operator, and if you have a huge group of autists you can have multiple boats crewed in multiplayer and you can attack in actual wolfpacks and coordinate realistically.

>>528982093 pic it just has the added first bit crossing at 500' above and then descending to circuit altitude and turning around to effectively perform a mid downwind entry. If you take a look it depicts it as crossing midfield and joining on the mid downwind which is exactly the same maneuver. A crosswind entry would but be joining on where the crosswind would be in the pattern, that is a midfield entry.

Have ED or maybe Aerges done something to the Mk82s? I was showing a mate the Mirage F1 by doing some dual seat stuff in the BE model and was showing him how hilariously OP the chad SAMP bombs are compared to the virgin Mk82s so had 82s on the wing and SAMPs on the fuselage, took off and did some truck bombing and usually the Mk82s - at least on the F1 - will basically do fuck all unless you bullseye them while the SAMP-250s - especially the 400s but was just doing something similar in size to show him - will have an area of effect outside of the explosion. Took off, dropped one of each on some parked KAMAZ trucks and there's not really much difference I don't think?
Was a turbo basic mission in MP, no splash damage script or mods, just literally a BE spawned as client and 20 trucks on the same airport we took off from.

You're also not loading up in a steam sale, it's not regular gaming, you aren't going to be jumping between airframes like you would with a $200 cart of shitty gatcha games, each one of these aircraft will take you potentially hundreds of hours to master individually.
Their sales are constant, cyclical, and happen at least four times a year, so there's really no FOMO with the prices. You will have barely learned the basics in a single airframe by the time everything's discounted again.
ED makes completionism really tempting for collector-brained planetism people and spend a lot of money on youtube marketing, but you don't have to fall for it every time.

i used to think being a commercial pilot would be cool until i played MSFS.
It's like the least engaging job I could imagine, second only to holding a stop sign at a construction site.
You take off, barely do any maneuvering, and then either autopilot the whole way, or slightly adjust direction to follow waypoints for hours on end, and then land.
that seems so fucking boring and I don't know why I thought it would be any different.
At least combat pilots can make things disappear.

Trailer for BMS 4.38 is up. Download links will be up soon. I cannot force myself to play DCS right now, so I will give it a go and try to complete 1 or 2 campaigns.
>>529370025>I cannot force myself to play DCS right nowWhy not?
>>529369693One time I ate pasta all'amatriciana for like 5 days in a row and on the sixth day there was the earthquake at Amatrice. I passed it off as coincidence that time too.
I'll try to dream of a M-346 DCS module being a reality.
>>529370789I get the sense that DCS players turn their nose up that isn't a fast jet or an attack heli
>>529370770Don't know. Been playing for a few years and nowadays I cannot play for more than 30 minutes. I just hop on, do some landing practice and turn the game off.
>>529370980I get the same feeling. Online it's always just spamraam in either the F-16 or the F-18. There is also the group of people that don't want anything more modern than a radar screen in their jets so the glass cockpit of the 346 would make them puke.
Personally I still think it would be a nice module for basically almost everything al long as you're okay with it being transonic. It has the Marte antiship missile, MRAAMs so you can't just lob a bunch of AIM120s. Gunpod would be a downside tho.
Realistically 80% of the functions of the non FA version are useless in DCS. What is the point of simulating various AA/AG and other modes when you're already in a simulator?
The FA variant would be the way to go if they could implement some modern EW aspects in DCS.
Hell, I would even be okay with a Yak-130 even if it's ass to have to lose 2 hardpoints if you want to have flare/chaff. I seriously don't understand why they wouldn't go for an in-body approach like with every other fucking jet.
Regarding the poor performance of trainers in DCS I feel like it's also due to the maps. I don't know how to explain it but flying for a long while in MSFS in a slower trainer is no big deal, I'll even make fake bombing runs etc. While in DCS after unloading all rockets and bombs I get tired of just flying around.
Absolute madness in Hong Kong at the moment and MP isn't even on, it's the AI going nuts
>>529372005Maybe due to the scenery quality? Or maybe it's down to objectives in DCS and the lack of a dynamic campaign. In civ sims the objective is to fly I suppose so you enjoy just that even if it's in some slow shitbox.
I unironically can not load any webpage except 4chan while I am at this airport.

>tailgunning in a roland

I just assumed they would have some measure to stop retards (me) from blowing the shit out of their own plane. Maybe I'm wrong and it was some enemy fire that I didn't see.
>>529373229>Maybe due to the scenery quality?I think so. It probably makes your brain think it's actually navigating a real space due to the lack of repeating textures. In DCS I always have to use the altimeter to know my elevation, with MSFS I kinda got a knack for knowing when I'm at 7k, 18k and 28k feet even without looking at my instruments.

>>529391609Fuck. That might actually get me to buy winwing.
>>529391609How useful would force feedback pedals be?
>>529391682Very handy for jumping between warbirds, jets, and helos without having to change anything physical on the pedal. Cool to have for shit like asymmetric operations

>>529696526Haha. And yeah I have to agree it's kinda soulless because it's so modern and fancy, but I find it gives me some nice variety every once in a while.
The Baron 58 seems like a fun simple plane, first flight went just fine, ATC gave me a basic STAR to an RNAV approach. Only few small details bother me which I have to check later from the plane's manual.

>>529760083Nah it's too kino up here. Cruising and soon STAR starting from FL100, descend via it to FL031, one leg STAR.
>>529761579Decent arrival, approach and landing but I find RNAV approaches quite boring desu. I wish you could tune the X-Plane ATC so that it would give you only certain types of approaches. Maybe I'll have to look up ATC plugins, if there are any good ones.
>>529763518Also yeah I admit I didn't yet utilize the HSI on the Baron fully.... I somehow forget to sync its course and during landing was like whatever because I could see my glide slope being fine from the runway VASI.
>>529763518>140kts on approach
>>529764209Yeah I'm still bad at speed control with the baron, I knew someone would notice this. I added a notch of flaps and extended landing gear after that screenshot which slowed me down but I was still slightly above a comfortable landing velocity. It doesn't slow down like the other planes I've flown in X-Plane...
>>529764303Just slow down earlier mate, some planes really do not want to slow down and you have to give them more time.
>>529764397You're right it should logically work out fine if I just add the flaps and landing gear before the FAF or even before the IAF (still adhering to STAR/APPR speed restrictions ofc) so I could slow down while flying almost level in most approaches. I'm sorry anon-san I'll try to do better next time I swear.
>>529764578It's just practice innit, the King Air is very slippery and doesn't like slowing down either so I have experience with finding out you're going too fast too late, and nobody likes go arounds.

>>529734960In the short term I don't care about this. Buying ships with real money is boring so I just wait until they're buyable in-game.
But I do have a concern that it'll lead to power creep over time as they need to come up with reasons for people to keep buying more ships
>>529771916Yeah it's ugly inside-out and handles very crudely, you steer it on the ground via differential braking, etc... I understand it, it's an experimental aircraft (sold as amateur-built kit afaik), but I really don't want to fly it in a sim.

>>529773880https://github.com/papiplanes/sayintentions-dcs-adapter
>>529765835>Total weapons on board and hardpoints. That's not true. Look at your pic and pic rel. The Yak-130 due to the landing gear bay configuration has lost the central underfuselage wet tubed hard point that the M-346 retains. The second hardpoint isn't used but still retained on the m-346 since during testing it showed to have adverse effect on the flight envelope of the plane (russians don't really care).
And regarding the wingtip hardpoints that are present on both the M-346 and the yak, on the yak they are essentially lost since they weren't able to develop a true fighter attack version (yak-131) so they had to put the flares on the wingtips.
This leaves the yak with 4 useful hardpoints for ordnance if they don't carry any extra fuel (unrealistic). While the M-346FA can have 5 hardpoints with ordnance with an extra fuel tank or a TGP/EW/RECCE pod. (or 4 weapons and 2/3 extra fuel)
Not to mention that due to russian engines whenever you put any kind of load on the yak the T/W ratio goes lower than a fully fueled L-39.

>scale is better>trucks are huge>proper rural states>speed limits are higher>more sightseeing>quality overall of the map is much better than ETS2 as a whole, the oldest state, California has been completely reworkedThe quality of ETS2 vary tonnes, with the DLC areas being great (apart from Going East), but the non-DLC areas are fucking terrible, especially the UK which hasn't been touched since 2010.
>more complete mapI'm not sure which has a larger map, ATS gets at least 2 new states a year, it's getting 3 this year so maybe that's the new norm. ETS2 gets a DLC every few years. Also ATS gets a lot more in terms of new trucks, ETS2 gets next to nothing, the amount of trucks has barely changed for absolutely years, I presume the companies are more anal about licensing.
Overall it's up to you, but I would say that the quality of the map is a lot better in ATS than ETS2 overall and you'll be disappointed by quite a few areas in ETS2 and how old and shit they look.

346lad do you use the airbrakes much? It feels like if you're having to use them on approach you haven't slowed down enough and you shouldn't rely on them.
>>529902795I do use them to slow down if I find myself butchering the overhead break, but less than I did in the past.
>if you're having to use them on approach you haven't slowed down enoughThat's generally true imho, but if I'm very light usually prefer to keep the speed break out and keep N1 higher so I'm not constantly bumping on idle, kinda like with the DCS F-16. I have no idea if this is proper procedure tho. I've seen both kind of landings so I guess it's more of a "at your discretion" thing.
I always think that if I was in the real jet, being close to the landing speed in case something happened and I needed to quickly go around, retracting the speed brake and pushing the throttle would get me faster, quicker than if I had N1 close to idle due to spool up times.
tl;dr= I don't really know what the proper procedure is

I've flown the Inibuilds T-33 enough now to give some thoughts
>external model is really nice>cockpit looks decent, not perfect but it looks really nice>flies well, there was a lot of negative feedback over the flight model initially, I belive that has been fixed with updates, I'm not sure about the stall behaviour, it's tame which apparently is realistic but might be too tame, and doesn't seem to spin at all>the sounds are good and bad, it's very loud and get get grating after a while at high throttle, but it sounds great initially, maybe the loop is too short>Documentation is shit, it goes through some systems but there are many switches and systems in the plane that aren't explained and I have no idea if they work or not, cabin pressurisation and oxygen for example, the latter of which I don't think actually works>Bugs, I can't communicate with ATC with it, the tablet in the plane often doesn't work, there's no canopy (SU3 beta bug) and some other things I've noticedI give it a 7/10, I got it on sale for ยฃ12 which is a good price, and it's a fun plane, I would like to see the bugs fixed but sadly doubt they will be.
>>529916039>doesn't seem to spin at allActual spins are not really implemented in MSFS. Some developers hardwired them in like witht the F14 and Sf260, but that's it.
>>529916565I've definitely spun planes in 2020 and 2024, maybe it's just done by the plane developer then, so inibuilds perhaps didn't bother.
>>529913906If it has a completely different mission profile then probably.
Did WW1 pilots (any nation) have a higher casualty rate than WW2 u-boat sailors? The situation for pilots seemed really fucking grim when you factor in enemy encounters, natural failure of your balsa wood shitbox, inadequate training, and normal mistakes like botched landings or collisions. Were mid-flight collisions as common as these sims seem to make them or is that the AI being shit? I can't go a single mission without at least one crash.

They're fun to fly, we don't have big turboprops in this sim so there's nothing else really like it.
It fills a weird niche as a transport and gunship platform and will probably be useless in most missions, like a fixed-wing version of the CH47.
>>530038198They fly theirs with 9 seats to avoid needing a flight attendant. They pull out every other seat on opposing rows so you have crazy leg room and no one beside you across the aisle.
>>530049794That looks great, apart from the increased chance of death, comfy.
>>530029791Technically, yes. In reality, they're easy as fuck to fly because the computer does everything for you.
>>530029314Yeah at least a regular heli can land safely without power. This shit is a literal death trap.

Comfy evening cross-country flight with the king air. After trying out all the other default X-Plane 12 GA aircraft, I must admit this thing handles elegantly.
Let's all post our cocks! Here's mine:
>>530075017clean your fucking keyboard

>>530075017Are you the lad that bought the collective a few months ago? How is it?
>>530075472i bet it has pubic hair in between them
>>530075594It's great, totally changes flying helis; I can hover anything anywhere with a collective, but just kinda did a controlled crash everywhere before when I was using a throttle for collective. The only thing I don't like about the grip is that it doesn't have an analog stick, so steering a targeting pod with the 5-way digital hat is a little clunky.
>>530076056Does it have a twist throttle on it? I can't see
why spend money on a collective if you can just rotate your throttle lever 90 degrees
>>530076128No twist throttle, since DCS is sorta shitty when it comes to mapping closed/idle/off-idle throttle positions.

>>530077686At that speed he'll stall and crash
>>530077686Looks like the Bronco VS F-16 irl dogfight, but the Bronco won this time
Okay, I actually DID have to run this guy out of fuel lmao
Took out one engine with my last bullet (out of 500) and then just followed him out of spite
At this point he has 1 engine and I have 0 weapons, so I tried getting him to run into the ground. He almost got me instead
Note: the Vortex is actually the worst dogfighter of the fighters, and I'm including the advanced trainer (with no afterburners) in that list. It bleeds off energy very fast and has a terrible sustained turn rate because of it. The Revoker / Ifrit / Compass can sustain a 16-18 second circle at like 450-600kph, while the Vortex will slow down to like 400 and needs 20-21 seconds.

What the hell
This was not in the NOTAMs
What module would you recommend to a beginner in DCS?
I'm interested in the F-14, but I'm not sure how fun that is on your own and if the AI for the WSO is any good.
I guess F-16 would be a no-brainer, though I'm not sure I want to start out with a 4th gen plane right away, I think transitioning into one from a Cold War fighter would make me appreciate all their capabilities a lot more
Or maybe I should just say fuck it and go for a Ka-50?
>>530075472I never touch the corners of my shower, but I still like to keep them clean because its helle gross otherwise
>>530107172I recommend never touching DCS.
Get BMS Falcon if you want a game that has accurate procedure and system modelling but doesn't also fail on every other level.
>>530107172F-5E
Simple procedures, cockpit full of stuff that carries over to other US aircraft, and Cold War is "in" right on multiplayer so there's plenty to do with it. Only really downsides are capacity and variety of weapons.
>>530107418Anon we both know BMS is nightmare mode for beginners
>>530101163kek

>>528875065Both Israel and Iran's benefactors benefit from Trump retaining popularity and have a vested interest in ensuring he is not dragged into any ground wars or has any US deaths tied to his actions
>>530107172unironically just get the T-45 mod, it's fun and free and easy and will be updated soon:
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTCKEzQyrw4as a rotary whale ka50 is my least flown module, but am also just here for steam gauge kino. most of my time goes into obsolete cold war slavshit and am happy there.

>>530058101The GCW map is the best in the game by a crazy margin. God I wish someone would make an F1 campaign for it.
>>530101163I think MSFS needs some wacky mini golf course tier shit to spice things up.

Well, that's enough of the yiff patrol for tonight.
>>530110994>ka50 is my least flown moduleI think one of the big reasons I gravitate towards it, is because it's a single-seater.
Though also it's just kind of a cool helicopter in general
>>530109006>>530110772>F-5EHmm, I'll give it a think. Biggest problem is that I want a plane I actually like for irl (hence why I'd choose F-16 over F-18, I just don't care too much for the latter for some reason)
For that reason it kind of sucks, that the Mirage 2000 isn't available anymore.
Maybe I'll just start out with the Frogfoot and delay the decision of what module to buy
Been flying around sweden and I notice many controlled airports have no ATIS frequency at all. What's up with this, anyone knows?
>>530147078The large ones do but literally who small airports don't. Presumably Swedish pilots have to get their weather information from somewhere else.
>>530147297Yeah largest ones do for sure, but even smaller controlled airports with two-way ILS and VOR's don't always offer ATIS. At least for me, with latest AIRAC cycle, using latest X-Plane 12. I guess that's how it just is. In Finland even smaller uncontrolled airports have ATIS, which is very useful, I know this for sure because I live near such an airport and my RTL-SDR can pick up its ATIS broadcast just fine. But yeah, I guess IRL it's fine to just look up weather information and broadcasts elsewhere, in a sim the ATIS feels maybe even more useful.
>>530147078>>530147297Just checking as I've never really thought about it but have noticed most places in the US have ATIS compared to Europe, and it does seem to be a regional thing. In Europe pilots tend to just check METARs online or other sources apparently.
>>530147505>broadcastsI meant forecasts...
>>530147505I'm not sure how you can check in X Plane itself, in MSFS 2024 the EFB is unironically great and tells you everything, but outside that Little NavMap can tell you the weather, as well as sites like https://metar-taf.com/
>>529029041the historical tactic was for several uboats to pounce on a convoy all at once. wolfpack tactic. as an individual ship your only real advantage is surprise, so sitting and waiting for an ambush is your best bet
>>530147601Yeah I use little navmap, but that metar website looks useful, I'll see how well it matches my x-plane realweather conditions, cheers.
DCS addons are quite expensive even on sale
Gotta love rainy IFR days. I love the sound of rain and the x-plane windshield rain effect is not half-bad either.

>>530158242You can get Crosskart for 2020 too, but it's much better for 24 as that added a proper ground and feeling of it as well as the vastly improved textures and flora. >>530186619If you like just flying, learning, improving etc then yes.
>>530186619how good are you at IFR navigation and flight planning?
try a complex twin like the analog king air, or fall for the OG autism button flicking trap and just become an airliner person
>>530187194Not going to lie, if I ever branch out from dcs I'm probably going to go for airliners. I've always kind of liked them
>>530184223>no ridge lift whatsoever>tried to land in a groundfield>died
>>530186619Yes? As the previous anons said, learning to fly a plane like you would in real life is challenging. I don't know anything about DCS though, so I don't know what kind of stuff it teaches you. I've spent about ~100 hours playing X-Plane so far (my first and only flight sim) and I have only touched General Aviation aircraft during this time. I'd say I'm mid-tier skills-wise at VFR and IFR now, for me it's about improving my skills, learning more, you can dive pretty deep into the technical details of IFR charts, radio navaids such as NDB's or VOR's or DME's, for example.
>>530187747airliners are pretty hands-off inflight unless it's something steamkino like the dc6, but there isn't much else with that level of systems depth if that's what you're into.
>>530188547Yeah the old stuff you actually need to manage the plan and navigate, newer tubeliners you plan it all out and the plane flies itself.
i've learned when the wind is barely blowing, put it at your stern to get out of it, even if that gets you off course.

>>530188072>so I don't know what kind of stuff it teaches you.Nothing, it's basically warthunder but with more switches. The training missions are just barely surface level information on how to use some of the systems.
>>530192245>The training missions are just barely surface level informationYeah, I've literally never played a fighter sim that teaches you in-depth details in-game without you having to put in the hours yourself. That being said, comparing DCS to War Thunder when it comes to anything probably just means you've played neither.
>>530193880He probably talks about how people actually use DCS. Pop on a multiplayer server, put whatever unrealistic loadout with the most missiles, take of and die.
>>530151393That hellfire rack says "no step" right where his foot is.
>>530194368DCS players do have a bit of a bad reputation in the flightsim community, I think the game attracts a lot of mongs
i feel like if you can't be bothered to do anything in DCS other than taking off an making something explode, civ sims aren't really going to be for you.
I've never played DCS in multiplayer so I don't really empathize with these complaints.
>>530194890I feel like people who actually want to do sim shit either play solo or have their own closed community. Other people, like teenagers who wanna see stuff go boom, just hop on the first multiplayer server and crash on the runway.
>>530194920Pretty much. If you don't enjoy flying in itself and everything that goes around it, civ sims won't do you no good. Also lmao@ the screenshot. Grim.
After discovering Nuclear Option, i feel like a good part of the people playing DCS multi just to fuck shit up would probably have way more fun on that one. It got everything they want but simplified and ready to play.
Personally, i love both. DCS for the deep plane/helicopter autism and overall historical accuracy, NO for easy and careless fun.
>>530194890The flight sim community has a bit of a bad reputation amongst DCS players. Did you ever think about that?
