What do people run for survivor perks nowadays?
I came back after not playing for a few years for anni, and killer perks are pretty easy, but I can never decide on what I want to run on survivor

As a Dwight main. I get killed most of the time but my team usually lives on. I still get placed against really good killers though which makes me question how MMR works but whatever.

The biggest weakness of this play style however is that it's meant to be a team build. If you have a shit team and end up solo, or just get really unlucky even, you're up shit creek without a paddle.

How do I git gud at survivor? I played nothing but survivor by myself the last 2 weeks and it's been kind of miserable. I don't feel like I'm getting any better. I think my MMR is also inflated because I can hold M1 on a gen therefore the game thinks I'm better than I am or something. And if it's not me dying 10 seconds into the chase it's someone else or the killer (usually Springtrap) just sits in a door near the hook until someone falls for the bait and I can't do anything to help out.

Self healing was buffed significantly and then quickly nerfed. This is like saying killer has been getting the short end of the stick because they nerfed MFT when it should never have made it to live in the first place. The most impactful thing to come out of all the survivor buffs was definitely the HUD, ensuring survivors have more info than the killer ever can no need for perks. For me, it's the inconsistency between how different 'when you're in the killers terror radius' perks and powers react to survivors being oblivious. Stake Out, for example, will fill when you're oblivious but in the terrors radius. Just because you can't hear it that doesn't mean it does exist and you're not in it. But Legion's Feral Frenzy, however, will not provide killer instinct on oblivious survivors, working completely differently despite also claiming to give killer instinct on any survivor not in deep wounds and in your terror radius after one feral frenzy stab.

game uses hidden MMR to matchmake (no correlation with your grade), and the MMR scoring itself only considers escapes/kills as the determining factors for rating adjustment (with hatches counting as a draw). it does not analyze anything else about your performance, just did you escape or did you kill 2+.
also the matchmaker prioritizes speed over accuracy, so if a player is sitting in queue for long enough, it'll start widening the bracket of who you can match with. if you're trying to play killer right now, you're probably gonna get some wild swings in player skills because of this alone.
p100 players are not necessarily good for the record, but it's obviously rough to play against someone who is at least played a lot of dbd even if they aren't actually good at the game

That's only part of the issue. The truth is the game is nearly a decade old and people have simply figured out that rushing gens is the most effective way to play. What's actually fun? If you're a survivor, it's sneaking past the killer, or evading them in a chase. For killers it's finding and hunting survivors. But that dynamic isn't what rewards you.

In ideal game design the "what's fun to do" and "what the game tells you to do" would be aligned. Think about a FPS shooter. You buy the game to shoot baddies, the fun is in shooting baddies, and the game tells you SPECTACULAR MEGAKILL when you kill a bunch of baddies. This is something fundamentally broken in DBD. If you're a survivor, what the game actually tells you to do is to sit on a generator holding M1 and occasionally pressing spacebar for 90 seconds. Evading the killer, looping the killer, saving your friends and healing them, all of the fun parts of the game are secondary to fixing gens. The killer doesn't suffer as much from this because stopping gens is actually very similar to hounding and killing survivors. But they are hurt too: the game is so much faster and you get less enjoyment out of it when 3 gens pop right as you finish hooking the first chase and turn to look for another. DBD tells survivors the best way to win is the least entertaining way, and in doing so it pressures killers into having less fun too. Remember when taking 3-4 slowdown perks wasn't the norm?

Skull Merchant shitshow simply stripped away the chaff and revealed the game's bare skeleton.

Balance changes have contributed, but this happened because enough of the playerbase have been pushed to realize, by the game itself, that doing gens/stopping gens is all that matters. Ironically the most fun to be had now is in pisslow MMRs where survivors bumble around like dazed bees and killers go for whatever they see like dogs after a bus
