XIV is fucking wild, you'd think they would try something, anything, to get people to play the content they spend exorbitant dev time on and they don't. The entirety of EX, Savage, and Ultimates has been a downward line in participation with a brief stop in 6.05 where hundreds of thousands of new players got their first dose of savage, were burnt by it, then it was right back to line going down for 6.2 and 6.4.

At this point it's exclusively a higher end raiding game, even the adventuring forays that are basically made for normies/midcores have been snatched away for upper raiders only now. Occult is just Bozja 0.6 but without a CLL or Dalriada and they skipped straight to DRS 2.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt here and explain something simple here.
Despite the development of Dawntrail drowning in DIEslop and consultation groups like Georgify, the game itself was not permitted to have any LGBTQ content in it. The female characters are still female. The romantic relationships are still all heterosexual. In fact, other than throwaway lines like 'Be on the right side of history", there was zero leftist virtue signalling. Dawntrail is simply a boring, milquetoast expansion, a result of what happens when you ask fraudsters to inform you on intricacies of differences in human cultures. At no point does the game, feature two gay male monster-races getting married and then flirting and getting ready to make out like WoW does.

Unfortunately I've been on /vg/ when the threads for FFXIV were pruned for a few weeks and most of them admit they don't pay an active subscription, they are majority modbeasts so it's a sample size of 500, (They got player scoped at one of their meet n fuck sessions they have) and most modbeasts play by using a free trial account as they have no interest in the story, they idle in Limsa, and mod tools are so powerful now that you can change almost every thing about your character without having to access items from SE cash shop.
I know this is anecdotal but the modbeasts are not keeping the game alive in revenue, perhaps in player population maybe, but they absolutely are not in money.
I went down a rabbithole once of mods they use, start with Mare and go from there.

Final Fantasy has been a mismanaged mess since Sakaguchi left

I joined an FFXIV FC and 'convinced' the FC lead and a number of prominent members into giving me a permanent static spot for savage and ultimates so they'd carry me to clears since frankly I'm not that good but wanted the glowy weapons for Limsa cred.
