Secondary stats only need to be crit, haste, and mastery (your class’ unique enhancement). Versatility supersedes everything in the game, lore and otherwise. Ironically, modern dungeons are easier on lower difficulties.
Before cata, it was common for tank to eat all the stuns, disorients, mortal strikes that easily stack over 100% and so on.
Newer dungeons have none of that, especially those after MoP, which were made with Challenge mode in mind - so you can just hold W boss to boss and the only tihng slowing you is some RP moment.

I don't know about 'universally', but I did hate the Fyr'alath acquisition.
Aside from the ridiculous chance to drop it had that, I was a little hype for the questline to get it done. I missed long and interesting quest lines to build up cool weapons.
That hype very quickly died off because it's not even an interesting series of events to make it usable.
Like, I enjoyed the quest line to make Shadowmourne or Tiriosh. As grindy as they also were, they had some cool plot elements to them as a big build up, they took you to difference places, there was some side stuff happening to the main threat those classes got to see.

This shit was just pay through the nose for materials (or have friends/alts with a shitton of them) and do nonsensical shit like juggle a ball for an hour or whatever the hell that quest I've repressed from my mind was.
So yeah, I don't necessarily mind the random drop aspect, as bullshit as it feels, but the random drop + absolute nonsensical bullshit to make the damn weapon along with it without being remotely interesting or paralleled to the current ongoings is lame as fuck. Especially if they add a stupid high gold price (or craft material farm instead of unique quest item) to it.
