As of right now, I can't really recommend this game over any other ARPG out there. I feel like it just wasn't ready to be released. Yeah they say Early Access but they treated it as a launch, by charging for it, advertising their MTX sales in game, selling their $100+ "supporter packs", etc. The game is just not in a good state. Some nights you might get stable enough gameplay for a while, but others...it's simply unplayable. Bosses will spawn outside of the map walls (happened to me TWICE today), forcing you to abandon your map you just built up. The game will micro-stutter EXACTLY when you need to split second time a roll to avoid the one-shot. There hasnt been any real content update in the 6+ months it's been out, besides the whisps which only work sometimes, especially in the campaign, and the huntress, which was already shown before the game was released. They also decided it would be a great idea to split their effort, attention, and community into two...between PoE1 and PoE2. When one is being worked on, the other is neglected, and vice-versa. Communication is also terrible, every message saying "we know, and will try to work on it"..."we stll know...still working on it"...etc. There are also reports of posts of feedback and/or complaints being removed/deleted. I really hope GGG can get it together because it does have potential. Right now they just arent meeting that potential though. Give this one another year or so to cook before trying it out.

The bottom line is that GGG is making this game as slow and as cumbersome and as otherwise artificially “challenging” as its player base will allow. If that’s your jam, then fuck, more power to you. Me, I can’t recommend this nonsense—even after all the time and money I’ve put into it. Especially after all the time and money I’ve put into it.

Reader, I uninstalled it. I’ll likely check back every now and then, though to be clear, the bullshit present in the game is there by design. Maybe we’ll see something closer to 0.1 after the dust settles, but I’m nearly certain we will not.

Game says it in Early Access, but patches and updates come at a regular schedule with new leagues. The game might as well be fully launched at this point, even though it has a ton of issues.

Some specific issues are the following. Crafting is non-existent or feels terrible. i.e., You don't want to spend currency to have a random chance at crafting something vs just spending said currency in the trade-site to buy exactly what you need. Builds really aren't malleable - if your not doing a meta build or an off-shoot of a meta build, you can't clear most end game content. The end game is such a grind that it is not fun to play. The end-game "fun" issue mostly boils down to the fact that drop rates of really good items suck, so you're just spending hours on-end to get currency to buy what you need on the trade website since crafting is essentially useless. And then there are just random things that kill you out of nowhere, setting you back on XP and/or killing end-game runs. And then you get to do it all over again 4 months later.

All-in-all the game just feels like a slog that is not fun or rewarding for the time invested.

-Removed all fun from the game in pursuit of the "vision".
-Loot is nowhere to be seen, from items to currency.
-Massive amount of skills, all but a few are literally pointless.
-Massive amount of support gems, all but a few are literally pointless and the few good ones have negatives...fun.
-3 second stun should never have made it past the idea phase.
-Combo gameplay will never be fun in an ARPG so stop pushing it.
-Running around an area for 30 mins with nothing to do but look for the exit is not fun.
-I understand they need to sell cosmetics, but the prices are an absolute joke.
-Refuse to implement a player marketplace, which would solve all issues to do with trading. (Like every other game has lol)
-Servers are so bad its actually funny. I understand there is an ongoing DDOS attack right now but there is 0 reason or justification for your disconnects to roll players back and remove progress from them. Remember every input is tied to servers so high ping = input lag. Meaning everything you do up until it disconnects you is being sent to the server perfectly fine... So why the rollback? That's a DC compensation issue, fix it.
-Moderators on Reddit are removing posts to do with the disconnect rollbacks, along with many other negative subjects. Ask me how I know... absolute softies.

Before early access launched the developers said EA would last 6-12 months and at release there would be 36 Ascendancy classes and 6 acts.
We're now 6 months into EA and all the developers have done is basic game balance and they've added 2 new Ascendancy classes. We still only have 3/6 acts and 17/36 Ascendancy classes.
PoE 2 is currently in a state where the developers should pay people to beta test it rather than charge money from people. And despite that they're monetizing the game like it's a fully released f2p game. They just added new stash tabs which are arguably p2w to the store and they're introducing and advertising new lootboxes.

A few years ago GGG also promised that all applicable micro transactions from the original poe will be usable in poe 2 and that they would continue releasing new leagues in poe 1 even after poe 2 launched. I'm sure they have intentionally said these things so people keep spending money in poe 1.
The reality now is that the vast majority of mtx that people spent money on in the past is still unavailable in poe 2 and poe 1 development has almost completely halted with no new leage in close to a year. So people who bought mtx a year or two ago with the expectation to use it now got borderline scammed by GGG. And to add insult to injury they're introducing new micro transactions rather than prioritising to imlement the old mtx.

If the game was great I could view past all that because things change and I don't necessarily think GGG intentionally mislead people at the time. But the game is mid at best and development is going at a snails pace so I can't recommend playing poe 2 at the moment.
To be honest I kinda lost hope for GGG. Many of the people who made poe 1 a great game have left the company recently and the remaining team seems to struggle finding a direction for poe 2. Meanwhile Tencent who GGG sold out to is squeezing for money.

Surprisingly, disappointingly AVERAGE.

Since any character you make now and any loot or wealth you build up will be essentially wiped on full release (moved to a basically defunct league), I cannot recommend this. Had the game been better and more fun and - above all - more respectful of the player's time, I would be OK with a character wipe and enthusiastically prepare to start again. But this game just isn't that great and the hours I have put in were rather joyless (I wanted to give it a fair chance none the less).

I played the game up until DH and really enjoyed it, but ever since the new patch, the game has become boring—it's unbelievable. My character was, of course, ruined by the updates, so I had to start a new one, but even that wasn't fun. Except for the new character (huntress) that everyone plays—literally the entire city is filled with just that one character. All the other classes have become useless. There's no balance between the characters. The campaign and endgame have become unbearable—so hard and with no real rewards. The game has really gone downhill. Let's face the truth: only 7,000 active players online. What is this, a private server? I don’t get it—my home computer could run a server for 7,000 people. It just shows how many people can’t or don’t want to play the game anymore.
P.S. The rewards in the campaign and endgame are so bad that there’s really no choice — anyone who actually wants to make progress is basically forced to buy currency from third-party websites with real money in order to move forward, just another p2p

After playing over 100 hours I do not recommend Path of exile 2 early access. I regret my purchase after the fact. It's interesting because while this is a free to play game it's technically not free to access the game early.

About a month ago is when I realized the whole early access is really a cash grab. The game is not nearly complete. Doesn't do enough to justify it's existence and/or doesn't differentiate itself enough from the first game. I wanted a different action RPG from poe 1 which I can't stand. I can already see the mechanics bloat happening all over again in this game down the line.

Some other things that influenced this rating are the fact that Chris Wilson is no longer with the studio and that grinding gear games is no longer an indie company.


This is the last live service game I will give money. They all turn out to be crap and the industry needs a swift death and renewal.
