It might be something many of the adults in Hometown are aware of, which is why "the prophecy" is part of their religion. I'm betting Carol and Toriel are major players in this and are withholding information from the kids.

The knight fucking sucks as a superboss. Like, we're fighting one of the strongest bosses in the series but their character boils down to "I wonder who or what this is" and "I wonder what they want". ANONS I HAVE A NEW SCHIZOTHEORY:
The "final prophecy" and the thing that drove Jevil and Spamton mad; is the game ending.
It's the realization that the characters, their personalities, the world, the history, NONE OF IT exists past the beginning and end of the game.
Think about it, Darkners know that their purpose is to serve the Lighters, they're aware that they aren't "real" but are ok with that as long as they fulfill their purpose. But what if they find out...that the Light World isn't real either? That this entire time, their existence was completely meaningless because the people above them are also strings of code fulfilling a purpose. It explains why Spamton wants to reach [Heaven] so badly. Our reality is the "highest" layer they can conceive of, free from the world literally "ending" when we finish the game and turn it off.
Ralsei is a very unusual Darkner because he knows the entire prophecy but isn't driven mad by it. That's because he was created with ONLY the prophecy as his memories and was created specifically to fulfill the prophecy.
The game only has "one ending", because no matter what you do and what outcome you get, you will inevitably close the game and stop playing, that is the "end" of everything. The Lightners have no choice but to fulfill their role, to play out a story, and then stop existing.
I think the "true ending" is all the characters coming to terms with the nature of their reality and deciding that no matter what, everything that happened was "real" and therefore does "matter". Sorta like DRV3 but better executed.

Ok today I am focusing on the Light and Dark "science"
The SOUL emits Light. So, I guess "Heaven" is a realm of SOULs, I think the Gasterfags can reconcile with this and maybe Spamtanons, Spamton is trying to get away from the Dark. Darkners I think, are either SOULs, spirits, Dark Souls. Everything is almost all "represented" to us to our senses, like Ralsei calls it fake, but to get the point across that the King of Spades card is that, in the Light, take away light, and take it away AGAIN, and now it manifests as a Darkner, which almost makes it sound like Ralsei is saying it's all in our minds, but Tenna and Chapter 3 is quick to add the idea of contracts, like it determines the form and function of Darkners, Mizzles being the clear example. Weird, but so far, we've had some hierarchy in every Dark World, with some exception of Chapter 4, which had much bigger fish to fry, showing that Souls CAN manifest in the Dark World through Gerson, and, I would argue, an implied hierarchy based on faith.
Anyways back to Dark/Light. I think the implications of a "double dark" with Dark Worlds is that there is some "void". A Phantom Zone. You can't the see the cube, you can't interface with the cube, but the cube is there, and can interface with YOU. Except the void is formless, spirits extract form through contracts, and the perception through the Light World further defines their form.
If you want a quick and cool example of why I think Void is canon, watch the Jevil segments in a windows, resize it however you want, and now imagine Jevil knowing he is outside the bounds of the window we perceive before we open the doorkey, and how much BIGGER everything is outside that window, and now his words about us being trapped vs him being free make a little more sense

During the wait for 3+4, I had this idea of Kris somehow meeting UT Asgore and feeling disturbed by how his sense of obligation and duty for a declaration he made in the heat of the moment caused him to commit heinous acts he himself didn't fully agree with. Back then I wasn't totally thinking of Asgore acting as a mirror or warning for what Kris could become because I didn't know about the promise, but looking back it sounds more interesting with the new information.
It did get me thinking of the possibility of Asgore as a boss/Flower King as a dark world in Chapter 5, and if an antagonist (Asgore or a flower Darkner) could force the protagonists to reflect on their obligations. Kris's promise and whether they value it more than their new friendships; Susie's...friend/hero duty?; Ralsei's duty to the prophecy, Lightners and player (dear god let me see that guts stat rise), things like that.

Someone asked how would 7 Dark Worlds would work in Chapter 5. I think the party will split-up. Susie will learn how to shine her SOUL to close the fountain, and then will teach Berdly, Noelle, Catti&Jockington how to do that. I get that the Dark worlds are intrinsically tied to the emotions and personality of whoever opens them.
What I don't know is what that means for Chapters 1,2, and 4, we have 3 whole worlds formed by the Knight and 1 by Susie, and its pretty obvious how Susie differs from the Knight but I dont know what the Knights deal is to begin with or why the worlds are formed like that

Undertales core messaging is broken by the fact that we (player) are a eldtrich abomination god puppeting a child with time travel/world reset/idk powers.
For example, one of undertales core messages is that we can do better. Humans can do better, show mercy, be kind, be good. That humans and monsters could get a long and live with each other (a message of hope)
BUt that message completely falls flat when you realize the only way this was possible was not due to a regular human. But because that human was controlled by a literal god (player) and had time travel/ reset bs.
If instead a regular human was put into undertale, you know what would happen? A regular human would have immediately chosen genocide because thats the logical outcome.
Imagine you were in undertale. Imagine that you didnt have reset powers. Imagine tjhat at any moment you can die and would die forever. Imagine expirencing all the pain and exhaustion due to monster attacks. (YOU) would eventually snap and thus decide to kill the monsters.
And this is the core problem of one of uts messaging. It expects us to embrace a theme of humans and monsters getting a lot But the way it does so is by introducing a human that would be impossible to exist. It tries to prove something by showing that something can only be done, through impossible means
