What colours can a sky and sun be on alien worlds and still be considered beautiful and not just grotesque?
I feel like slightly purple sky and magenta sun is as far as you can go. Possibly you could do slightly red/yellow/orange sky if its only very faint and mostly pale but anything else would just be too weird and uninviting to feel right.
I'm leaning toward light purple sky and magenta sun for my alien game anyway

BTW how do I incorporate a faction of nodevs in my setting? The problem is they do nothing, are completely passive and there's no real avenue for them to become a threat to the world or the player. Basically the only way I can conceive of them is being below vending machines in terms of importance, but I want the player to hate them and mow them down on sight.
>>532071907Well read the docs and it'll tell you probably
>>532071907The way it works in Godot is that they crosscompile the C++ engine for you on every platform (Godot uses SCons), and then GDScript user code runs as bytecode on a virtual machine. If you also need to compile C++ modules or GDExtensions, then you will also need to use SCons to cross-compile those to every platform you want to support.

>>532073052It's kind of crazy how every time I post progress there's a nodev that gives me some really terrible advice in an attempt to ruin my game or get me to waste time doing stupid bullshit. I feel bad for the beginners who can't separate retarded critique from actual good critique because they just don't have the knowledge and get tricked. Truly nodevs are the scum of the earth
>>532072920IMO the number one problem with Starbound that Terraria got so right is the permanence you feel with your base-building. In Terraria, you really feel like you're building up to something. That sky bridge you built in early game to search for a Starfury is used to fight end-game bosses even after you get wings, and that feels really good because you built that yourself. Meanwhile, in Starbound, every planet is transient.

I realized it should be baseScore + streakMultiplier^streakCount making each shot more valuable than the one before. Another thing I realized is adding more points to the baseScore based on some other parameters AND THEN multiplying for streak. I did make some charts to see how the cumulative score changes etc. I do have a secondary streak type that I want to track. I haven't figured it out how I can do it: Adding it separately as bonus or embedding it to the streakMultiplier by increasing it. Maybe I just have to keep doing my own scenario tests and see how the graphs differ.

Before Gaben invented Steam the only way to distribute video games was to print out the source code onto sheets of paper which the user would then have to manually type into their computer and run.
>>532094670Zoomie those two periods in time are far apart. We had CDs in the middle.
>>532093684What do you want to know about them? Are you working with Godot like I am?
They're just nice because they can have their own methods, properties, and signals that are all recognized by the editor, and by referencing them, the engine enforces a standard that makes everything more reliable and more readable.
As opposed to dictionaries where you better just be certain you formatted it right and are referencing the right keys when you manually type them out every time.
>>532094670I'll just say it, when you buy software they should be required to send you the entire source code physically printed onto paper

I wonder if I should focus on learning how to model and animate humans or do monsters as well.
with the ultimate goal 5+ years in the future to do a Deep Down like..
Obviously, the two would be needed. but the difficulty modifier is higher and usefullness(such as being an artslut) is lower for monsters. Even in souls almost everything is bipedal and quadpedals are mostly animated like shit. horror games? bipedals, maybe except dogs. So the best use of my time would be humans.
monster hunter teams are able to do it because people are paid for years to study references, experiment and build up knowledge, they aren't taught about animating dragons at school. A simpler way to say this is "Niche Knowledge".

>>532100306Are you asking how much water is used (indirectly) to process one AI prompt โ for example, the hidden water use from data centers cooling computers when you send a prompt to me?
If so, hereโs a clear estimate based on recent research:
Studies estimate that a single AI prompt to a large language model like ChatGPT or GPT-4 typically consumes about 0.5 to 5 liters of water โ mostly due to the energy used by data centers and the water used for cooling them.
A small, short text prompt might be closer to 0.5โ1 liter.
A long or complex prompt that takes more compute (e.g., big code or multi-turn conversations) might use a few liters more.
These numbers come from research papers such as โMaking AI Less Thirstyโ by Shaolei Ren (2023), which found that training these models consumes huge water volumes, but everyday usage still adds up too โ for example, a conversation like this could use liters of water indirectly.
Key point:
The water is not directly wasted in your home โ itโs used at power plants and data centers for cooling servers and producing the electricity they need.
If youโd like, I can show the math behind this or compare it to everyday water use (like making a cup of coffee, which uses ~140 liters if you include growing the beans!). Just say yes and Iโll break it down!
Why is /3/ so sllooooow I wanna look at model topographyyyyy

Instead, they create fake shell imitations of what they think the components of a game are and roughly glue them together into something that resembles a video game. However, once you dive deeper, you'll see that these "games" really make no sense. You'll find extraneous components added on that don't fit in or critical components are missing because the devs are just gluing together an arbitrary list of components that they know exists in other video games without understanding why those components are there.

But really, I'm perfectly happy with this development. For too long retards come here saying they're making a game and it's just some fucking coom game. If it were a good game it wouldn't need porn as a crutch, and if it were good porn it wouldn't need to be packaged as a game. You're not one of us, you never were, the thing you're making is inherently exploitative, and every time you join one of our demodays you fuck up the rankings because the wider itch.io gooner audience comes looking for fresh coom material and artificially pushes your dogshit game to the top of the page.
I'm truly philosophically opposed to coomer games, there's no reason for them to exist. Search google, 50 billion images of boobs. Why do you need a game for that? Oh you want a game you can goon to and edge yourself for 4 hours? You're mentally ill and the developer of the game you're playing is exploiting your obviously dopamine-addled porn-rotted brain. The games needed to satisfy such a sick person must inevitably plumb the depths of depravity hoping to spark one more numbed neuron in the sick mind of the customer so we end up at what is basically sanitized child porn
Honestly watching the income prospects of coomdevs crumble into dust is up there with watching journalists get laid off. The fact that you reprobates were able to steal a living from such shitty morally and creatively bankrupt behavior is a glitch that is long overdue for a correction. But don't worry... you can just remove all the porn and sell your game as, yknow, a game.

Around 100 coom games get banned from Steam alone EACH DAY.
About 700 coom games in the week around your release.
Eyes too big? Chest too flat? Underage character? BOOM you are done.
Also, not only are you unable to sell your game on Steam but you can't even get any money through Patreon or any other service dependent on global payment providers :)
Take all the "coomgame success stories" you can think of in the past 10 years and realize that they never had to go up against Visa and Mastercard, what degenerates thought was easy money and a shortcut to 'making it' just went up in smoke
No money, no social kudos except from other degenerates online, your family would disown you if they found out what you were making, all to produce a game that your braindamaged audience will forget after they've masturbated. the bug was _ready() is called on the script on the scene when the scene is inside a preload() statement
even though _ready() is only meant to be called when you add it to the tree
so I have a global
>var buttonscn:PackedScene=preload(res://etc)
then in my function its like
>var butinst:Control=buttonscn.instantiate()
>butinst.neededvar1=this
>butinst.neededvar1=that
>target.add_child(butinst)#this triggers _ready() to be called
and the _ready needs those neededvar 1/2 to be not null or you get an error
so when you start the app and actually get to that part it works fine, but during startup there is red errors, because that preload() line at global scope runs the _ready() function on it even though it isn't added to any tree... goDONT!!!!

Steady progress continues, today was mostly code refactoring but I also added few new features thanks to simpler code. Polygons can now be edited afterwards, though the feature is clumsy to use so definitely needs some refining. Also I just noticed there's sometimes memory corruption going on, no idea yet why but destroying and reloading the level seems to trigger it which causes weird behavior and crash. you can also declare them as static when inside the function and they wont go away, the downside is that if you call the function again it brings back the same one again doesn't make a new one.
normally in a game you would do things like spawn enemies for the player who can then kill them. you would use free() on the enemy struct when he got killed, then remove the reference to it. it is good to set pointer = null after doing free(pointer) because de-referencing a null pointer will give you an immediate error you can understand, whereas de-referencing a "valid" pointer that points to data that has already been free()'d is going to cause chaos
but it is faster to re-use and not free+malloc again
