It's because you're not making video games. You waste your life dreaming about making video games, but you only have the ability to make pale imitations if anything at all. If you made any real video games, you could just slap the shit out of them with your fat stacks.

You can't make a good game because you might have enough sense to say to yourself, "Even though I've rode several aircrafts in my lifetime, I don't believe I have the technical skills required to design an aircraft.", you somehow can still delude yourself into thinking, "I've played many video games throughout my life. That must mean I have the technical skills required to design a video game."

Ideally, but you are not capable of that. You still do not understand precisely what it takes to build a video game. You have some vague idea of what components form a video game, and you can only "plan" to build a vague non-functional imitation of one.

There's nothing to talk about. You're a nodev. You have no clue how sprite sheets even work. You're doodling concept art in the style of NES sprites, but you have not made any functional sprite sheets. You are less than a kenyan helicopter dev. Worse than making a non-functional imitation of something, you're never even going to start making the imitation. All you have are drawings.

I don't think that they're creatively bankrupt, I'm sure a few of them have original ideas.
The problem is that they have absolutely no confidence in those original ideas, and would rather copy something that was successful.

Then there's different levels of copying. Take a look at two of our resident e-celeb devs, Sasquatch B and Stardew Valley guy.
Stardew Valley is a clone of Harvest Moon and some other farming game. While it's a copy, there is a decent amount of depth to it, and it's pretty obvious that the dev at least cared about his project, despite the foundation not being an original idea.

Now, let's look at Sasquatch B. I know of two games that he has either made or is making, Cropolution and that Avocado game.
Cropolution is literally "what if.... Stardew Valley, without the charm??"
And the Avocado game is basically "LOL how funny and le quirky would it be if I took Binding of Isaac... But I made him into an avocado??? LMAO Well memed, right, friendos??"

One is basically a passion project built on top of an existing game's ideas. The other is the game dev equivalent to kenyan helicopters. They look at a picture of a helicopter, and think if they make something that *looks* like a helicopter, that it will be, in fact, a helicopter.
