I'm not sure if this is the case for most people here, but I've not really been playing many games like I used to. I'm in my 30s, I've been playing games since my hand-me-down NES, the last time I really felt excitement and genuine joy playing video games was with the Wii (prior to that it was the Dreamcast, then N64, then Genesis if we're talking home consoles with the DS Lite being the last handheld I really enjoyed), but Starfield is pretty much the only modern game I really play anymore. Not to say that I haven't played other games that came out recently or haven't enjoyed them, but I end up always coming back to Starfield. I try a new game, I like it for that day and maybe the next, but then the day after comes and I don't have the desire to play it or I don't have enough time (nor do I make the time) to really dedicate to it in order to really get into it again. The ONLY modern game that I've not had issues like this with has been Starfield. I'm not playing it every day, but when I have some time to kill and I'm going to play a game, I always end up playing Starfield.

Maybe it's just the type of game it is, but I can 100% say I did not experience this with even the Fallout or TES games (or at least the ones I played which have been everything from Morrowind to Skyrim). Does anyone else have a similar thing going on with them?

I don't have problems alternating games between a lot of different genres, but when I play Starfield I play a lot of it. If I can't put in the time to play a lot, I don't.

Now this is more of a personal answer for why. Starfield's a game that, I'd say, demands actual participation from its player, not just in terms of gameplay but the "meta" of story. It starts with intrinsic motivation.

Todd also said "The more you give to Starfield, the more it gives back." and given my experience I think that is true. At least you get what you give in and look for, even if you're give in, and look for, negativity and negatives.

I'm just glad I managed to fit that niche. The Starfield community, although relatively small compared to other communities for a game with as much initial expectations around it, is one of the best gaming communities in the industry. I feel like the game just isn't built in such a way you can tweak any one system without ruining everything else. It happened when they introduced the rover and suddenly the planets became *even* smaller cos you could cross them in a minute or so, and the rover wasn't implemented in literally any quests. The thing with engines is that, provided you have decent enough coders, you can do literally anything you want with them. Sometimes it requires rewriting a lot of the underlying code but they have to make a decision whether they want to keep using the creation engine (which honestly is an engine a ton of people love despite the bitching) or switch over to unreal engine and have to create a new kind of creation kit, or just completely abandon the creation system altogether and with it the entire gimmick of Bethesda games.

True Unleveled's concept would fit this best with the least amount of manual work. Starfield's star systems have a certain level minimum-maxium range, so we could use that as a springboard. I believe enemies themselves are based on the system's level, but the rubberbanding overshoots them a bit. For example, I believe certain enemies like the Starborn has a more restrained level rubberbanding, in lower-level systems they won't go over level 40-50, but they're consistently level 100 in systems like Archimedes. I didn't really like the game very much around launch, but it's been a long time and I'll reinstall it to give it a second chance. I played it for about 60 hours which was enough to beat it and I didn't hate it (otherwise I wouldn't have beaten it), but that's nothing compared to the thousand+ hours I've put into fallout and skyrim, each. There's something missing from starfield.

I'll browse for some mods and "creations" and see what has been made in the time since I last played, maybe there's something cool. I look forward to giving it another try, because there were some things I liked, and maybe some mods will liven it up.

You are conflating entirely different problems and levels of abstraction. Describing a lot of these aspects with the requirement of "simulation" is wrong. The orbits are simulated, in that their position are updated throughout the game's cycle. And of course you won't need to load the 3D space of the place you're leaving, you just record things like positions of objects and schedules of outposts. When you land on an area, that area gets recorded, hence why the experimental save size shrinking mod warns that such areas you visited can be wiped, they contribute to the save.

Starfield isn't on the list of games that will be featured in the Xbox broadcast, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not being shown. They always have surprise announcements.
