You know when all these upgrades were first revealed in the story I was kinda panicking because suddenly there were a lot of characters that I wanted and I was worried I wasn't gonna be able to afford them all.
Then it takes almost an entire year before we finally start to see them as playable characters. It makes sense, this game loves NPC jail. But I guess I mistakenly thought the upgrades would be an exception and would get fast tracked. Looks like I had nothing to worry about. There's an argument to be made that taking this long kills all potential hype, of course, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

I guess this finally clears up the confusion too, where everyone thought they made the "over spec" category for the purpose of having a place to put all these upgrades, only for them to say that's not the case, and then nobody knew if that meant skins or alts, and now we finally see it's alts. You get gold tickets every time you roll in a "rainbow" banner( the new characters basically ), so you should be getting gold currency every time you spend your gems.
The only banners that don't give gold currency are the standard one( where you use your blue tickets and you shouldn't be using your gems there at first place ) and the FP banner that is free
You should save your gold tickets for very powerful/limited NIkkes. Usually Pilgrims/overspecs. "Normal Nikkes" are added to the standard banner once their event is over. You can use your gold currency in those too, but only if you REALLY like them
