Takumi is truly a disgusting creature. this whole relationship is predicated solely on the dopamine hit Karua gets whenever he delivers this one line. Takumi is barely ever invested in anything she cares about. She's fixated on it because... Well, what else is there?

She has to find opportunities to make him say this one sentence that made her feel really good that one time because that's the only emotional validation she's getting out of this relationship. If she was actually happy, she wouldn't need the fix.

Takumi, for his part, is carrying Karua as his reason for fighting. He has to return to her. When they're separated, he cares a great deal about her. But there's been little indication that he actually values her when they're together and things are good.

I don't feel like he's as invested in her as he thinks he is; I feel like he's just drifting along a status quo. She is what he has. She's his sense of normalcy and stability, but he doesn't really care about her or her interests specifically. She's just. Present.
