It was, but similar to WoW, it became a shell of itself after years of updates. Even the earliest version available had a server that got really popular a couple months ago before it absolutely imploded due to the main dev being retarded. So there isn't really a good way to play it, especially because even the oldest version we have access to is still long after the games prime.

Queue systems also help turn people into disposable objects, mere means to an end. It devalues any sort of social cooperation and also makes having friendships less valuable. Why add that cool tank to your friend list when if you just sit in queue for 15 minutes, you'll find one anyway?
A Classic world needs inconvenience and it needs friction between you and getting things done, part of the charm is overcoming that friction. Removing friction like groupfinding, smoothing out the social side turns everyone aggro and on edge, like exists in MoP Classic right now, where everyone is disposable, people kick others out of dungeons for fun and grouping up for dailies to get them out of the way quicker is rare because everyone is in queue.

What are they winning, exactly? Heirlooms are worse than blues from dungeons and cannot be equiped until one of your characters achieved 60. On launch they will be removed completely until every class got realm-first 60. Same with exp pots and aura.
Besides that, you can pretty much only buy a bag and a mobile bank. Repair bot doesn't allow you to sell shit to it, so it doesn't really function the same way it works on twow.

it's more complex than that. look up elasticity of demand for a related concept from economics. if they manage to get thousands of players trying to do the pve raid progression, they can start drip-feeding seemingly minor p2w elements, like the repair bot, and lose a minimum amount of players.
