The meta is dogshit.
You can try playing roach forestcraft, probably the hardest deck in the game with some unwinnable matchups, but it is the most budget.
Alternatively build towards whatever you get the most legendaries for.
Rune/Sword are the best crafts now.
Abyss can work if you like aggro with like 3 legos.

Honestly there will be a new expansion in 2~ weeks making things even more expensive so unless you plan on spending on the game just quit now.
If you really enjoy the game you can play the story mode of the old one.

(you can ignore that retard and use the free starter decks to make a decent enough deck and have fun playing at a rank appropriate to you instead of worrying about what the top players are doing)

You can build sword with all the free shit and a week of dailies.
You can't built the Vivi deck in Arena and can barely build Maliss in MD with the same time investment. But it's much easier to do ranked and events in shadoba with an incomplete Sword deck than it is to win in Arena or MD with an incomplete deck.
(winning more in Arena doesn't even net you resources, they're time gated, by the time you can build the Vivi deck for free he'll be banned and you'll be left with an unliquifiable unplayable pile)

Abyss is one of the most expensive decks unless you play the aggro version which only needs 3 legendaries (I just abbreviated it).
Still you'll see due to how the crafting system works you'll need to play long term to get anywhere, and until you get a full deck its misery time.
If you don't mind the lack of variety though then sure whatever.
We will really only see what happens after the 3rd set.
If you want to play abyss craft 3 Aragavy and whatever golds you still need for the aggro deck (Aragavy is a safe craft either way) and see what happens after 10-50-100 games.
Some people can stomach playing the same shit forever, I can't. F2P is basically forced to.

I'm closer to the median of what you can expect with minimal pay (just the BP every set). And without paying I'd just have 6-8 less leggos.
People who are suffering are people who want to have a tier 0 netdeck day one but also save all their rupies and vials for EOS. It really is very easy to do the single player stuff and easy feats for extra cash, spend it all along with the free packs and gold to see what leggos you got, then pick the two starter decks that get you closer to playable and take it easy from there.
There's no rewards for hitting Master Rank in a week, there's no rewards for burning out farming GRP ahead of schedule. But there's a shit ton of free stuff for people who just do their dailies and log out.
This is not a gacha, it's a card game. Banners aren't going away, there's barely any fomo, and you will not win more by grinding or paying if the PERSON sitting across the table is still better than you or has a MU advantage.

How do some manage to be so dogshit at a game so simple, we'll just never know.

As much as I love Kuon in a non-homo way I have to say out of all the crafts Dragon is the most fun with Haven being a close second.
Every other craft might have it's joy, but these two really hit different on the dopamine scale.
Dragon is peak B I G, I just wish they added more impactful effects for dropping stuff like twilight and the like.
I want the whole field to shake and enforced phone vibrations for phonefags on the other side of the screen.
Haven really just needs more ways to torment my opponents like the good old days. We are getting there with ward, but it could be much better.

This was typically the case for Rotation decks in later SV1 as well, but between temporary legendaries and the ability to vial whatever you wanted, it was a little easier to at least get one playable deck per set.

Aggro abyss is probably going to be running 9 leggos next season. Valnareik historically has helped push aggressive wrath decks in the past, so odds are decent that she'll find a home in the new aggro abyss lineups. I severely doubt that they'll cut Odin and Aragavy.

Meanwhile midrange abyss' early game is a bit mid, so if Valnareik is competitive in a vacuum then they'll probably slot her in as goodstuff and bring their leggo count up to ~23. That's still leaves Rulenye, the neutral leggos, and maybe an abyss anathema. If any of those also fit on their curve then midrange abyss decks might unironically start running ~26 leggos next season.

I do feel like this game feels a bit more dependent than legendaries than OG Shadowverse. Like during the first sets of OG I didn't vial anything since they still had "win x times with y craft" missions and I was trying to figure what I liked by trying a little bit of everything. It was a bit rough at times, but I still felt like I had a decent shot with whatever legendaries I happened to get lucky pulling. The other thing is 4 (S)Evos minimum makes legendaries more swingy because you can get off 4 Evo effects in a row and flood the board or slam face with Storm. Olivia existed since Darkness Evolved but you at least had to draw her, otherwise you only had to worry about 2 or 3 Evos so later legendaries tied to Evo points were not as threatening.

I don't agree with the idea that all of those themes and cycles were intended to be fleshed out from the beginning. Yes, we launched with less cards, but I fully believe that they always planned to stretch these themes out across multiple sets so that they didn't have to care about balancing them as much. Since they're staggered, if any one theme gets too oppressive they can just wait until rotation to take out part of their tools without having to perform balance adjustments and hand out vials.
Everything has been staggered on purpose. I'm not even totally sure they want to give Discard Dragon and Abyss self-harm real payoffs yet. They're just costs and drawbacks.

My biggest complaint about this game is there is too much storm damage which makes early game decide most games. Early chip damage forces someone to waste their evolutions putting them even more behind because of how powerful finishers are in lethal range. On the reverse end too decks like Rune are near impossible to go past turn 10 with so you never get those fun games where both players run out of evolutions and trading versus attacking face becomes more thought provoking.
