Nevermind the fact that stadium looks like it thrown together over the course of the month (It was being developed for the past two years, someway, somehow). All of the icons look relatively the same and it's an absolute MESS to know what to purchase. Look at a game like Deadlock for example, the shop UI is beautiful and it's extremely intuitive, well, as far as pseudo-moba's go. The blueprint has been sitting right there, Deadlock. Now they're stuck in-between being a hyper-casual game mode and an ultra-competitive pseudo-moba that's operates as a more aim intensive hero shooter rather than Deadlocks more tactical/moba approach. In the end Stadium caters to no one. Serious players go play Deadlock, and casuals just 6v6/5v5 because trying to trudge through the mountain of shit that is the Stadium shop just isn't worth it.

Lets not even get into the fact that Stadium queue times are just downright shameful. My rank was reset to rookie and I have to wait 7-9 minutes to even play support. And that's with the game using the entire pool players. Why are DPS so overtuned in Stadium? Hmmm. Don't ask why, okay? It's okay for Moira to fade her entire team and launch a dozen orbs at you while simultaneously healing and dealing absurd amounts of damage. But your hero? You'll have to settle for maybe shooting out a projectile when you blade.

Speaking of broken heroes, lets just release Wuyang as he was because he definitely isn't broken and doesn't highlight how weak DPS are. Why is it okay that a support, who has one of the strongest heals in the game, also has one of the strongest primary fires in the game? Not only that, he can upgrade his secondary perk so it does MORE damage than a Pharah rocket while taking significantly less skill since he can guide it directly to his crosshair.

Anyone who has played stadium will tell you that it is not a serious mode. You've spent the entire season grinding your hard-worked-for rank. Then, suddenly you get a game where your teammate seemingly has no idea what he's doing. You ask him whats up and he replies that it's his first game ever as that role. You throw your arms up "no way, he's gotta be lying. I'm all-star." And then it hits you all at once, literally none of this matters because the game is essentially trying to balance dust particles. There are not enough players to support this mode, it was dead after the first couple of weeks. The game puts up skins for target ranks like its a reflection of anything meaningful.

yeah because nothing keeps a game alive like having a character that you like and put hours into learning to get better with, just to lose because the enemy team decided to hop on the character they have 1 hour with that literally exists only to make your specific character unplayable. i didnt think this was still something that people struggled to understand when theres a chance you dont even get to play your character against counters because theyre flat out banned. yeah nothings says a sustainable game state like me not being able to play a character at all period now.

If you've played MOBA's before, then you'll quickly learn that Overwatch's Stadium mode does nothing new, and it's actually quite the regression of the genre. There's zero punishment for building in correctly, and players scale beyond all reason once you reach the fourth/fifth round.

In League of Legends the scaling is gradual, and some heroes are better early game while others fall off-late. That isn't the case here. Everybody being a nightmare and the gameplay starts to resemble a dozen beyblades thrashing each other until one side gives. There's very little tactical element to Stadium and everyone goes off doing their own things.

Have you even seen what dva can do in Stadium? Do have any conception of what she looks like in that game mode by the fourth round? Liquid magma is pouring out of her ass as she jets across your screen, she just launches herself into the air and smashes the ground like wrecking ball. And that nightmare is compounded on by the 4 other players you'll have to keep track off pulling off equally ridiculous stuff. Nothing can ever be simple with this game, it has be extra convoluted because thats what adds depth, and yet this gamemode repels competitive players like nothing else.

Even in competitive circles for this game, bringing up Stadium would be considered off-topic because it has little to do nothing to do with the core game modes. You're spoken to and see the same as someone who queues for mystery heroes, and that's a big problem for a gamemode that's trying to stand as an equal to 6v6/5v5. Is Stadium the future of Overwatch? Or is just another failed game mode in a long line of failed game modes: Flashpoint, Push, Clash

It's really quite interesting that Season 18 was titled, "quickplay" when this game has done very little to benefit those very same casual players. Instead what do you get? You get a draft mode, and no mirroring by the way! Stadium is serious. Or is it? It's really quite the idiosyncrasy. The game mode simultaneously wants to be hyper-competitive, but ranks don't matter? The trailer headlines changes to Stadium so you would think these changes would be targeted for the quickplay audience, but it seems to be quite the opposite.

I have had the special opportunity to partake in multiple Blizzard playtests and give feedback back to the devs. Did they ever implement any of our changes? No, not a single one. Honestly, I'm really not quite sure why Blizzard has so many "research" opportunities available when it doesn't even seem like they care about what the players, or the testers they're paying for even think. I asked why third person couldn't be implemented into the standard rotation of game modes, and they essentially scoffed at me. Not even for quickplay? Really quite strange. Most people who play Stadium at a decent level opt for first person anyways, so whatever conferrred advantage their might be doesn't seem be that meaningfully significant.

i play winston but solo queue winston is either the most fun shit, or literally unbearable and arguably the worst tank experience in the game. you cant do enough damage alone to make big plays if the enemy isnt out of position and if no one is poking down squishies to enable a dive or diving with you it feels like most of the time youre feeding support ults or just doing nothing waiting for an opening.

This is a solid observation. Even from my own experience the vast majority of people in Stadium have their preferred mains, which are usually mirrored across both teams. I don't think there's enough heroes in the mode for a draft mode to exist, at least with mirroring disabled. The Stadium playerbase, while some did request this feature, it was not an overwhelming consensus.

The problems was never mirrors, it was the fact that you were always blind picking and some heroes would be fucked before the game even starts in earnest. For example, nobody in their right minds is playing Ashe into Reinhardt and Ana because of how awful their non-precise damage generation is and sleep. His shield blows up to absurd degrees later into the match and you're just absolutely wrecked if he charges anywhere near you, and Ana... well she can just shut down your ultimate for 6 seconds because you don't have a Kiriko because it's blind pick!

Blizzard is doing everything in their power to not listen to player suggestions. The answer can never come from the players, remember that. It has to come internally.

That's fair, but plenty of people are going to outright stop playing stadium out of fear of not getting to play who they want and I imagine the amount of leavers will increase a good bit too. The toxicity is gonna go up as well because if someone doesn't make "the right pick" in response to an opponent pick they're gonna get flamed the second anything goes wrong. I can only see this decreasing stadium numbers and I personally always felt it was doomed from the start anyway.

Alright meltie over, I had to get that out. I've just been infuriated with the direction this game has been headed for the past year and a half. For the record, I enjoy Stadium (I play it more than QP), It just boggles my mind that it's being supported and pushed as hard as it is. Perks/Health inflation completely pushed me away from the game and I don't play it as much as I used to, so most of my hours are in Stadium now.

Yes. They're adding a "draft" system to it which doesn't allow you to ban a hero you dislike, but rather allows you to lock in a hero you want to play and then lock every other player out from that hero. From what's been shown, the picks go like this -

>Blue Tank picks first
>Red Tank and red dps 1 pick next
>Blue dps 1 & 2 pick
>Red dps 2 and red heal 1 pick
>Blue heals 1 & 2 pick
>Red heal 2 picks last

Again, this isn't a case of, "Oh, I'm playing D.Va so I'll ban Zarya and make them pick another tank." It's, "Oh, I'm playing D.Va so now they can't mirror me, but can see my pick and lock in any other tank now to counter me."

It's the small as fuck hero pool and the fact that unlike regular draft mechanics, you do not get to select a hero to ban while picking yours. The hero you ban is the one you pick. Everyone can see the pick right from the get go. No swapping and not being able to see the enemy team until after the match starts was justified by saying that stadium is about the build, not the counter pick. Now it's literally just counter pick > build choice. MOBAs have rosters with 100+ heroes where things like drafts and bans work great. OW2, even with the regular comp pool, doesn't have enough to properly do drafts, and hero bans have just proven what everyone has been saying. "We hate these characters because they aren't fun to play against, even if they are fun to play as." And the devs making a shocked pikachu face when it's the same fucking heroes everyone was complaining about pre bans. Hero bans just gave them an excuse to not immediately fix or balance "bad" heroes.
