You want to see what player housing does to games just look at any mmo that has it, it’s dull, creates a market for gold dumps that are essentially trophy items that you have to force other players to see so you can feel validated for 5 seconds max. The upgrade system exists because of there being multiple ways to gear now with multiple different difficulties. Crests and the cap system are to prevent what happened with Valor where the optimal way to gear was to get an item from high difficulty once and then do the easiest content possible over and over to upgrade it. The end result is ilvl inflation to create a meaningful power gap between difficulties and patches, hence why every expansion jumps over 200 ilvls during its runtime and why we need stat squishes every couple expansions

I joined a guild after hitting it off with the GM in a mythic, I was told it was a more casual guild but they still have a prog team before the first raid night I got told to download a bunch of extra add-ons they use for their loot council and specific stuff for WA and some boss mod I've never heard of

Vanilla is actually far less grindy at max level than retail is at max level, the never ending treadmill of crests and upgrades and filling out your vault if you want to actually do high end raiding makes retail a nightmare comparatively, vanilla is so simplified in its endgame though that you can easily hit max and be geared up in pieces that will last you months within a few days

I have a theory from years of WoWing the the playerbase does not actually complain about specs that are OP by the number but rather they scream about classes that kill them in flashy ways particularly if its a flashy dps burst.

MANY classes are capable of killing someone from ~70% hp right now in 2/3 globals, but people scream about ret ele and a couple others because when when they kill you its with huge glowy flashy shit. you KNOW the ret paladin just nuked you, or the ele shaman just dumped his cds on you when it happens.

Its the same thing with engineering in old wow, it was never actually particularly OP, but when you lost a fight to an engineer you know it cus of the bombs and rocket boots and goggles. And people scream about it till it was both heavily nerfed AND exiled from pvp.
