Bg4 in that position is a pretty bad mistake if white takes the center with d4. Black starts suffering from tons of pressure very early on due to the weaknesses created and lack of development. I recommend you to take a look at the game in this link on an analysis board, see how black can get completely crushed after that move.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opera_Game

Doesn't even apply just to this particular opening, very early Bg4 pins are a relatively common inaccuracy for allowing early attacks. The book Art of Checkmate has an entire section on that iirc. Here's another very famous example of a bad pin.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_Trap

Stuff like this is why it's important to study classic games when learning chess.

Since chat is limited, it became the standard way in online chess to label your oponent dumb, 0IQ, retarded, subhuman, genetic trash.
It's sole purpose is getting under your opponent's skin.
Anyone playing it isn't playing to win by outsmarting you, they are there to win by playing nasty mind games.

The second game of the 73rd Oza title match is being played, between Sota Fujii (sente, the Oza title holder) and Takumi Ito. The time control is 5 hours per game, and the match is a best of 5 (Fujii leads 1-0).
The opening was bishop exchange. Instead of playing a normal symmetrical setup, Ito played rapid-advancing silver against Fujii's reclining silver, resulting in a sharp position.

I don’t hate him as an individual but I’ve come to hate him because of how overrated he is. Ben Finegold and others rate him as the greatest of all time and it drives me crazy. He comes from a completely different world. Trying to compare his dominance with Garry, Magnus, Fischer, Karpov, who are playing nothing but ridiculously strong fields and destroying them, is just insane. I’m sure Duke Karl knew a little more than how the pieces move but I really do not care that Morphy played an “all-time” classic against him. It’s no Kasparov’s Immortal. Be serious.
There’s some complusion that certain people have to overrate him that I don’t understand, but it’s not the only example of its kind. There are also certain types of people who overrate Fischer, usually without knowing much about chess at all, and their reasons are perfectly clear. I get it. They browse /pol/. But that same compulsion exists in some people for Morphy and I can’t figure out where it’s coming from. It’s not based in chess or logic, it’s something else.

And Fischer is not overrated. He, alone, fucked up the Soviets' dominance and reached 100 elo more than anyone else.

Not at all. Garry was the better player and was dominant for decades, Karpov was close and also dominant for decades but lost the World Championship to Garry, which makes him second. Fischer had the highest peak of all time, winning every game of Candidates is a performance that will probably never be matched, but it was a short-lived run and he would have lost to young Karpov if he kept playing anyway. He’s third all time.
>>539533041
I think the video you’re talking about was Kasparov being complimentary at Fischer’s memorial. I’ve come to realize how often these sort of social courtesies escape people these days and how autistic everyone is. It used to be customary to be humble, minimizing one’s own accomplishments and praising opponents. Magnus does the same thing regarding Kasparov. Now the world is full of retards thumping their chest talking about how great they are, and retards with their tongues wagging out watching old footage of courteous players and going “He thaid Fischer ith hith equal! He thaid tho, I thaw it!” These are not serious proclamation or analyses of skill, they’re niceties.
What Fischer accomplished in his short time as a Great absolutely puts him “up there”, but he’s simply not the GOAT. There is no argument for putting him over either of Kasparov or Karpov, there’s simply not knowing enough about chess and liking him for other reasons.
>>539533230
I understand that Morphy was genius but he’s still way overrated. All of the great chess players were geniuses and excelled beyond their peers, that’s not a good enough reason to call him the GOAT.

It IS based on chess and you would know that very well if you had ever actually bothered to study Morphy's games instead of looking at stats and forming opinions based on vibes.
Saying he was the GOAT is an exaggeration but there's no denying at all that the guy was a tactical genius. His sacrificial winning combinations and the way he perfectly crafted the positions that allowed them was nothing short of amazing. There's a reason his games are still printed to this day in pretty much every chess book out there.

Morphy cemented the fucking principles as we know them today. Steinitz and all the others used to play romantically, and Morphy liked doing the same but with some finesse. Steinitz started to understand all these "fancy" moves and such and started the whole positional chess due to Morphy and the rest is history. Most of the Morphy's people show are casual games, as he was doing tours and shit, it gets to a point where I hate The Opera game a little. The tournament games are more interesting.

>Retards: OH FRAUDRUZA HUH? HAHAHA L L L

>Modern-day: Pragg has overtaken Firouzja

I never noticed them do anything for my progress and my main strength is tactics. Just play and study your games and gain experience and familiarity with the game and you’ll be far better off than spamming puzzles. I play a lot of puzzletards with high ratings who never see any tactics, because spamming puzzles is basically a separate game and doesn’t necessarily translate to the flow of a chess game, where positions aren’t presented to you with an implied solution. But when you just focus on getting better at the game itself, you’ll be better at orchestrating positions where puzzle-esque tactics come into play, and you won’t miss them

none of that would've happen if that bishop landed on b4 and take the knight. a3 and h3 can be important sometimes to keep annoying bisops at bay.

For TT I think it's enough. The prize money is low enough in comparison to other more serious online or semi-online tournaments that habitual cheaters may not want to use whatever their system is just for TT anymore. Instead preserve whatever they're up to for bigger money events.

This kind of thing is only fine when the positions are selected by humans like in a book of positional exercises. The stuff made by engines should have a catch against this sort of thing, jfc.

the lichess daily had a particularly unsatisfying example earlier this week. don't win anything, even material, you're better because the sequence exposes the king but it's only +2.5 with best play. i'm pretty sure they took that one down and replaced it with something else after a few hours.

looks like bxg3 bxe3 rb2 rxc3 and white can't take the bishop back because of qxe3+ winning the knight and you are up a piece, white's pieces are not coordinated to strike back

He had several opportunites to virtually end the game that he missed and I realized I was going to outplay him and win. Once he trapped his queen I just lol’d.
