I completed this area on a controller no issues... once I found the proper way to do it.
I was struggling like crazy with the platforming in the first half of the area\. Then I reached the middle point and it was literally impossible to progress, there was a jump that was too high for me to complete and progress. I kept wondering if I was missing a certain skill. After a while, I remembered my harpoon skill that I barely used. I forgot it could be used to pull you towards enemies and propel you upwards. If I had used the harpoon in the first half of the zone, it would have been a million times easier. After that, the second half was pretty easy.
But I see that you're using the harpoon skill from the get-go, so you at least passed the basic IQ check that I didn't at first.

Yeah, it was fucking rough, I progressed until a bit after the bench halfway through the mountain. It's one of those moments you have to laugh at your own stupidity.
Then I stopped and thought about it, and remembered that in the sort of forced tutorial area after you get the harpoon, the devs literally teach you to use the harpoon to pull you towards enemies. What I didn't realize was that that action also made you jump slightly higher afterwards. And at the end of the tutorial, I also struggled because I couldn't reach a ledge, and I brute forced it by pogo jumping on enemies.
I kinda feel bad for Team Cherry, they went out of their way to retard-proof the game and I failed them.

Endeavour is close to vanilla if you want a nice GUI installer. Just uncheck all the eos packages during install and I think you'll only be left with a few Endeavour boot-related configs and the repo entries, and I'm not even sure if you have to deal with dracut manually any more since that was fixed upstream to add automatic hooks. Other than that, install lsb-release and os-release. 95% less work than the normal Arch install and even archinstall.

And after you remove them and pacman -Syu, run pacman -Qqm to find any leftover packages, if there even are any. Search / for 'eos' and you might find a file or two like their now unused mirrorlist you can remove but they aren't doing any harm.
I'm pretty sure that's everything if you made sure to uncheck all eos packages during installation. Super simple and nice to do from a GUI instead of working from a CLI until you have a usable desktop.

I don't really like rogue-like games, but I bought the streamer slop of the week, Megabonk, mainly because it was cheap.
It's Unity and I'm running the native version. The only issue I had was that the controller is completely broken, which is a normal occurrence for me on the Unity Engine when playing native Linux games. I didn't plan on playing with a controller anyway, but I have to physically disconnect it when playing otherwise it will keep pressing random buttons by itself.
Anyway, even for someone like me who is not fond of rogue stuff, the game is certainly designed in a way to be very addictive.
Also, mangohud is not showing on Steam screenshots for some reason, not that it matters.

Finally switching to linux mint. Been long on W10, but finally saying goodbye to this bloated spyware shit. Anything I should know? I've got a SSD arriving soon, unfortunately I got an NVIDIA.
Do I have to download an OS separately to the other SSD and will my files save on it if I transfer and do a full reset? Not that technically literate yet. I don't want to do a full file transfer mainly because I only have music I've wanted to long put on another storage anyways so I can have more space for gaming.
>>541631753
>Do I have to download an OS separately to the other SSD and will my files save on it if I transfer and do a full reset?
I have no clue what you mean by all that.
If you want to use your new SSD, you have to install Mint to it. Easiest way it via USB stick.
Accessing your old files is possible then.
>I don't want to do a full file transfer
should not be a problem for something like a media storage. I wouldn't put my games on a ntfs drive though.
>>541632217
Worded it a bit confusingly.
Basically I'm not transferring files from w10 to mint. I only want some stuff saved on the sata SSD I bought like music which takes up a lot of space. Space I could use for gaming on my main NVMe hard drive that reads faster.

What is an OS transfer? If you put files there while using windows, and then replace windows with mint the files are still there. The drive will be ntfs then though. (which should work for your use case, but I'd rather have my drives with linux native filesystems)
You can't switch filesystems without nuking the data, so you'd have to temporaily put them somewhere else

Bro, literally download rufus and the Mint ISO, then use rufus to properly format a pen drive and copy Mint onto it, then boot into that pen drive and install Mint. There are plenty of video tutorials on how to install Mint or pretty much any OS out there.
There's no such thing as "OS transfer". If you're afraid some of your data on any drive might be lost, backup it to an external drive.

I'm going to assume you're not very computer savvy given how you worded your question and subsequent responses/questions, and that you have a prebuilt, so let me clarify some things for you:
1. Any drive you attach, whether it be a flash drive, SSD, HDD, etc. will *not* have an OS installed onto it, nor automatically install one for you. You have to do the OS install yourself.
2. So long as you're installing the Mint on the blank drive itself, there won't be any data loss, and you can still access the other drive while in Mint. Personally speaking, I wouldn't use NTFS for gaming or storage, like
>>541632217 said, but you do you.
3. Since you mentioned you want to put stuff on that SSD, I'd install Mint first, then copy your files over to the new drive to avoid any data loss. (You can make a different Windows compatible partition first, like NTFS or exFAT, transfer your files over through Windows, then set that partition to a mount point of your choosing before you go to install Mint and have your data be fine, but I prefer to have my Linux drive free of as many unnecessary partitions, if possible.)
4. Windows is only compatible with NTFS, FAT, and WinEFI partitions. It does not support ext4, btrfs, zfs, etc., but Linux is.
5. If you do plan on keeping that Windows drive intact or otherwise keep it as an NTFS drive, read this:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/wiki/Using-a-NTFS-disk-with-Linux-and-Windows
TL;DR, NTFS is not supported officially by Steam on Linux but will work, with the possibility of issues (e.g. crashing, freezing, slower load times). You have to do some system configuration in order for Steam to read/write to those drives.
6. OS transfers don't exist.
I hope this helps out some. Just get a blank 8GB flash drive, get Rufus and an ISO of Mint, and go from there. You'll have to look up how to boot from a different device on your computer.
If there's something you need clarification for, just ask.

On another note, the stop motion in this game is gorgeous!
Holy shit GNOME is such a fucking cancer. I have a fallout-ce executable which should be ran from the game directory and it's absolutely impossible to make a desktop entry for it.
1. GN*ME has no built in desktop entry editor so you need third party applications make one, lmao
2. I've tried libre-menu-editor and menu-libre. First one is a gtk4 and libadwaita native and it doesn't allow to set working directory for the desktop entry (I guess there's no use case). Second one is written in gtk 3 but here's another problem
3. Path to the executable is "/home/user/GOG Games/Fallout 1" and it seems GNOME can't handle whitespaces in Path key even if they're handled with quotes or /s
And since there's no icons on desktop I can't make any shortcut to the game. The only solution is to specify Exec key of desktop entry without specifying Path to some start.sh script that will resolve its own full path, change working dir and only then run the game.
What a fucking embarrassment.

I'm switching over to linux on my main PC. So far i've had things set up on four main drives in windows like:
-Main OS drive and app folders(500gb SATA3)
-Dump drive for captures and downloads (2Tb SATA3)
-Editing drive for Da Vinci projects, necessary video/audio materials and editor itself (500gb M.2)
-Vidya drive (4Tb M.2)
(-Multiple external drives for backing up/exporting finished projects)
Can someone spoonfeed me to a good read or video on how filesystem in general works in linux? Can i have multiple /home folders or spread subfolders from it to separate drives?
>>541653270
>1. GN*ME has no built in desktop entry editor so you need third party applications make one, lmao
Or just a text editor. The desktop entry is a fairly simple plaintext format.
>3. Path to the executable is "/home/user/GOG Games/Fallout 1" and it seems GNOME can't handle whitespaces in Path key even if they're handled with quotes or /s
Sad if true. But, if I remember correctly, spaces in the Path field should not be quoted or escaped. Given that the value is expected to be the location of a single folder, spaces are just interpreted as part of the path in this context, and no quoting or escaping is necessary. So if your first attempt at entering the Path value had quotes or backslashes, don't do that. Just enter the path as returned by `pwd`, and NOT as you would pass it to `cd`. Only the Exec field needs literal spaces quoted or escaped in order to disambiguate literal spaces in file paths from those between arguments.

Then you should probably install Linux on that. And before doing so, you should just unplug all the drives you don't want to erase, so that you have no chance of accidentally telling the Mint installer to erase them. Plug them back in after Mint is installed.
Wherever you install Linux, it will format the selected drive (or the selected partition of that drive) which means erasing everything on it.
Just want to make that clear in case it wasn't obvious already.

The correct way would be to back everything up and format every drive to ext4, btrfs or the file system you choose, the easy way is backing up what you want to keep from the main OS drive, format it and install the distro there, then you mount the other drives to whatever folder you want, e.g.
>dump drive > ~/data/downloads
>editing drive > ~/data/videos
>vidya drive > ~/data/games
The problem with not formatting the other drives is they'll probably use ntfs and that could lead to issues down the line, I've done it for a couple of years and it's not a big deal but it's not recommended

Usually the bulk of these folders go into system partition, /home is the one that should be separate. Reason is different distros use different mutually incompatible software repositories, your distro provides the foundation, and maintainers build FOSS programs targeting this foundation.
Then the /home/username folder holds config files for installed non-system software, so normally you want to avoid re-using the same user name/folder across many distros. Different usernames on the same partition housing /home is fine.

No problem anon, be careful with the other drives, disconnect them before the installation just to be safe
>Could i just partition my main drive and try out different distros wihout the risk of wiping personal directories or the main distro
It's possible to use multiple distros on different partitions but it's preferable to just try them out on a VM or using something like Ventoy. When I have to reinstall or switch I always nuke the whole drive, some people use a separate /home partition to avoid this but I've read it can lead to problems with conflicting config files.

"Don't waste the player's time" should be the first commandment of modern game development (and I say "modern" because it's too late to change the fact that "start over and tediously play through all the easy shit again for each attempt at the hard part" is considered good game design by retro standards but honestly it can fuck off for any new game not trying to be retro).

we want to play Elden Ring with Seamless Coop - also we're both using the lastest DODI repack (I couldn't get FitGirl to properly install on my machine)
My main issue is what program to use to connect both our computers?
1 year ago, I was still on Windows 10 and we both used RadminVPN and it worked fine - but apparentely Radmin doesnt natively support Linux
So is there any similiar program that can connect my Arch Linux mahcine to his Win10?
Also a general guide to install and get Seamless Coop to run well on this pirate version would be appreciated

It depends on what you are recording. Some games like elden ring with a lot of details need very high quality to maintain pixel-level quality, but the filesize also depends on how much details there is in the scene. You can switch to high just fine in some cases. By default gpu screen recorder records in "constant quality" mode which means it maintains the same quality between frames, so it prioritizes quality over filesize.
You can switch to "constant bitrate" mode which means it maintains bitrate (size) instead, which means that if there is more motion in a frame then the quality will decrease instead. This is the default mode when you are using replay feature or streaming (in the gui).

I dont think there is a difference in latency on wayland when you have a window/fullscreen application, but there might be a tiny difference in performance or percieved smoothness. For absolute best latency you want to run x11 with no compositor and no vsync. You can enable tearing on wayland as well, but that seems to be broken in the linux kernel and has been for months.

I was using it because my mouse wasn't locking to the game window. But now it's locking without gamescope so I dunno what that was about.
But then if I use winewayland without gamescope the cursor bugs out going back to the game window.

The video in the class preview fails to load and I believe that is what is causing the game to crash when you switch between classes, so you end up having to customize your character many times to get back there. Maybe it works if you quickly select a class and press next.

Umm those things are deprecated and we need to trust and believe the people who decided there is no longer any use case for them. Surely they wouldn't just enshittify Linux Gaming by dropping support for things you still need.
Frankly I can't wait until they drop support for [another thing I personally don't need] so that the developers don't have to waste time on it anymore!
Since it's October I've been trying to get my spook on.
I've been trying to get the original Bioshock to run, but for some reason it refuses to launch unless I specify it to use Directx 9 in the Steam launch options.
According to the graphics menu It also supports Directx 10 and has a few graphical features locked behind it, but as i said, it only wants to launch in dx9 mode.
I guess I could play it as-is, but I find the idea that niggas in 2006 could run this game with better graphics than I can in 2025 ridiculous.
Anyone know what might be going on?

I dont just mean virtual audio devices, but also change the links in all audio connections, no matter which audio device is records from. So you dont have to stop recording audio in an application and then set it up to the virtual device, you can just change that while its running. Its also no limited to audio, it technically works with all media, including webcam and screen recording. So if you are showing your webcam on teams you could add your screen to that. It basically makes every application work like obs studio automatically.

Going through settings in Deadlock and apparently the song I'm listening to is being picked up as mic input even though I don't have a mic connected. What's disgusting is that, despite having an unlimited frame rate option, the game fails to work correctly at high frame rates.
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Spyro_Reignited_Trilogy#High_frame_rate_issues
And it's not just a few bugs here and there. Frame rate affects jump height which is a bit of a problem in a game so heavily focused on jumping. I might not be right in assuming that 30 FPS yields the "correct" jump physics, and it's only at frame rates higher than 60 FPS that I can easily see with the naked eye that the jump height is wrong, but the cutscenes are capped at 30 FPS so I figured that was what the inept developers intended.

I guess I'll keep the download going even though I'll probably go to bed before it finishes. Maybe the game will be shit, but the fact that it actually has a manual linked from the Steam library (unlike 99% of games) is nice enough that I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.
Should I actually play with a controller? Half the time I see developers saying "controller recommended", it turns out the game is objectively better with a mouse because it requires aiming. I suspect this one will be the same, unless the aiming is so fundamentally awful (as in Deadly Premonition) that any precision I'd gain is lost to aggressive mouse acceleration and other nonsense.

I miss that the Nvidia driver on Windows had a setting that could force a lower frame rate per game while it's in the background. I don't doubt that on Linux you could write a script for that but I can't be arsed, not to mention that the only game I need that feature right now already has it.

Almost certainly not, because it didn't actually finish. My system slowed to a crawl overnight and I woke up to find it barely responsive. Steam seems to absolutely shit itself during fuckhuge downloads on this machine; the only other large game installed right now is Spyro and I think I had some issues in the middle of its download as well. I don't know if it's a memory issue or a CPU issue or a disk I/O issue (yes it's HDD but it's only fuckhuge Steam downloads that ever give me a problem). I hit the pause button on the download and went to take a shit, and when I got back, Steam wasn't running, so maybe it got OOM killed or something. I restarted the system for good measure and opened Steam again, and the download resumed (but not from 0%, thank fuck, so I guess I'll let it keep going while I do other stuff).

Nosferatu did run like shit with several previous versions of Proton, but it should be fine with the latest.
In my experience, it actually ran well with Proton 5.0, but performance was inexplicably horrible with several Proton versions after that (5.13, 6.3, and 7.0 at least). This was super shitty because the performance problem appeared in exactly the same Proton versions that seemed capable of playing the opening cutscene out-of-the-box (using transcoded video files from Valve if I'm not mistaken). The cutscenes can be fixed by running
>protontricks 283290 quartz
and prepending
>WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winegstreamer="
to the launch options, so when I played the game a few years ago, I just did that and used Proton 5.0.
However, with Proton 9.0, the performance issues seem to be gone. Moreover, Proton 9.0 has D8VK, so performance can be improved further by putting
>PROTON_DXVK_D3D8=1
at the front of the launch options. Proton 9.0 also uses transcoded videos from the shader cache, but you still might want to do the tweaks to fix the cutscenes. Although the opening cutscene for the Steam version just works, not all videos have been transcoded yet, and so (last time I checked) I was still getting that color-bar test pattern for some later cutscenes. I've heard that Valve will transcode a video if enough users get the color bars, but the game is pretty obscure and most players probably quit before the end. At least there's another fix for it.

You'll also want to set the screen resolution (etc.) via launch options, unless you're okay with running the game at 800x600 or whatever the default resolution is.
The only obvious way to change the video settings is to run a separate executable for the setup launcher, and running it with Proton is possible but it's a pain in the ass and not worth it. (Even on Windows, where in theory you can just double-click this setup launcher, it sucks because it doesn't remember settings until a registry key is created manually, and even then, the settings are saved only for the setup launcher and aren't applied when running the game directly, so you'd have to launch the game through the setup window every time in order to use non-default settings.)
This horrible setup launcher works by running the game with command-line arguments, so it can be bypassed just by adding the arguments to the Steam launch options.
The launch options used when my screenshot was taken are
>PROTON_DXVK_D3D8=1 MANGOHUD=1 %command% -adapter=0 -tq=32 -tf=2 -aa=4 -lg=2 -lt=2 -pd=2 -s=1 -w=1600 -h=1200 -d=32
where -w and -h are the resolution width and height.
Since Windows users have an existing (albiet horribly shitty) solution already, and also don't understand the concept of command-line arguments and probably don't know how to see what arguments were passed to a running program, this is documented almost nowhere except for this game's thread on the Proton issue tracker:
The only other place I've seen it documented is a comment on this Steam guide (which I can't read, but I can see the command-line arguments are the same as mine except for resolution):
Someone who isn't lazy should put this information on PC Gaming Wiki (where the various issues with the settings launcher are mentioned but the command-line options are not).

It's a very interesting but very janky game. If you've never played it before, maybe try looking up a guide with some general tips — not that I can really name one that I know to be particularly helpful, having learned a lot of things the hard way myself. This one here
>https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/pc/917976-nosferatu-the-wrath-of-malachi/faqs/37705
says the unarmed punching attack is good as fuck against single enemies because it stun-locks them, but I've never tried it. Maybe I should.
Tips I can give are mostly related to gameplay mechanics that aren't obvious, and totally non-secret things that are easy to miss if you're as dumb as I am.
• Right in front of you at the start of the game, there's a suitcase with a sword in it. Don't forget to pick that up.
• Right behind you at the start of the game, there's a door to the area with some wooden stakes, which are used for insta-killing vampires in their coffins. The suitcases in this area are locked because this is where you'll need to bring any people you rescue (and they'll unlock the suitcases for you).
• If you hit the reload button while holding a gun that isn't empty, any ammo in the gun is discarded. So once you pick up guns that hold multiple rounds (like the revolver), you'll have to break any reload-after-every-shot habits you may have.
• If you have a flintlock pistol and you pick up another, you don't just get ammo. You actually get another pistol, so you have two... and then three, and then four, and so on. You can't dual-wield, but cycling between your pistols by hitting the weapon's number key again is faster than reloading. Of course you'll have to reload your whole pile of flintlocks eventually.
• Same goes for muskets.
• Sometimes the doorway to the place you need to go will be illuminated by a green light. I think a character mentions this, but I didn't read carefully the first time I played, so it took me a while to realize what the fuck he was talking about.

It still runs, but I'm not longer able to control anything even if I try to click back on the game or alt-tab back in, and need to force quit/kill the process. Once I restart the game, it works fine, but I cannot click anything on the desktop or it will run into the same issue and I have to restart again.
This makes it annoying if I'm trying to screenshot something or click the next youtube video to watch while I play. Anyone else run into this issue? Any fixes? I guess I could just not click outside the game, but still.
Speaking of Unity, I guess there's been a security vulnerability for linux and devs are trying to patch their games. Wonder what's going on and if they fixed it.

Yes
>kde share popup
I have never heard of this before, but I've noticed that steam also started showing the overlay when you press the home button. I'll have to make the controller hotkeys override the buttons like I do with keyboard hotkeys
>try homura hime demo
>starts up in 4k resolution, the resolution I want
>open graphics settings
>resolution changes to 1080p and there is no option to change to 4k
Do I really have to reinstall the game to set resolution to 4k again? I tried finding a plain-text config file but I didn't see any with resolution

I found the regedit entry but the game overwrites it when I start the game

The share shit came from steam, disabled it in big picture mode, though I still have no clue why it doesn't work with screen recorder.

I was assuming the "share keyboard and mouse control" or whatever popup. I was getting it when I mapped an extra controller button to a custom input that includes keyboard keys.

Regardless, it has the potential to be an unprecedented disaster for game preservation if platforms decide to remove affected games from users' accounts for being unsafe. I own several Unity games that are probably affected but have nothing new in the update history and therefore probably weren't patched. What if Gaben decides they're a liability and not only delists them from the Steam store but removes them completely? You can say "just pirate them" but what percentage of games are really piratable? These are obscure indie games I'm worried about, not normie slop. I'd already be a pirate if I only wanted to play $70 """AAA""" games.
If we're lucky enough that unpatched affected games are left alone... well, setting aside the possibility that the vulnerability is no big deal (because I just don't know), would running the game in Firejail or some other kind of sandbox be sufficient to mitigate it?

It was that, it was steam asking for it, when I enabled it then I could activate the steam shit like gamepad keyboard.
