There's not that many things you can do that I can think of, though it depends on what hero you're playing. What items save you when you're 1 HP and your illusion is going to hit you? Blink, Satanic (if there's something to hit), Greeves?

It's also about farming and getting the items, if you're going Linkens into Greeves on a carry (10k gold) when the TB spent 4.5k gold (Armlet + Glimmer) the TB did his job and he can go hunt your teammates.

Don't forget the UI. If you're Dire in lane and want to attack an enemy hero below you, you have the entire big ass UI blocking 20% of your screen so you have to constantly overcompensate with the camera and move it further down than you should need to. Radiance was the build for Weaver in Dota 1. But it was in large part because of geminate attack didn't work with attack modifiers and was just buggy. Like attack modifiers was completely disabled or didn't work properly. I think life steal, lightning, desolator didn't work at all (even on your initial attack). Skadi for some reason worked if I remember correctly. Critical strikes also were fucked, if you crit then you wouldn't do a geminate attack at all and the geminate attacks couldn't crit.

Basically life steal, lightning attack, desolator were useless (they completely disabled geminate from ever working!). Crit and mkb wasn't useless but also interacted weird and wouldn't proc geminate attack if you procced it. Mana burn worked but not geminate attack. Skadi mostly worked.

The result was that there just wasn't many good items for Weaver. Basically just Radiance, Manta, Linken's, BKB, Heart, Butterfly, Skadi were your good options. Pike and Nullifier didn't exist. So considering all that it's pretty natural that people built Radiance on Weaver.

This is a difficult thing to assess, but having more items at a specific time doesn't directly make the game all around easier since the opposing players also have more items. I would maybe say that reaching the floor where you can "have impact" is easier, but at the same time reaching peak efficiency is harder. Nowadays, the retard Lion on your team is more likely to have his blink at minute 20, but the same goes for the retard Shadow Shaman on the opposing team.
