The "base mechanics" of that build let you use frostblink of wintry blast for clearing (extremely comfortable) and venting for single target (powerful as you can just stand still and tank and get your infused channeling on). The build has cast speed and aoe out the ass.

It's not really always a matter of numerical gains per se. For the EB incinerate build, it's a matter of hitting damage thresholds for frostblink to be able to kill without needing to be cast multiple times, and hitting cast speed/aoe which makes it comfortable to use.

This is genuinely how it works for stuff like penance brand, armour stacker, ephemeral edge and other high-end builds. Many of them are just unusable dogshit before you throw enough money at them, because you don't meet the tank, damage and mobility requirements needed for the build to perform.

That said I understand your skepticism about "just throw money at it bro it will get good". It's not always true.

Just for fun I slapped together some shit in PoB for Frostblades of Katabasis, focusing purely on the DoT portion, and I'm kind of impressed, it scales off of a lot of strange things.

I really don't think so, tincture small nodes are giving like 2% damage each on the ascendancy.
I do really like the idea of ball lightning of static 50 shocks, though. I picked the ele reflect node on Elementalist but I could also just do the shock one for more easy damage as well.

I pobbed both a lot ages ago and never made elementalist do anywhere near the damage warden does, at least with realistic early gear and not gigaclusters.
Tinctures+avatar+shocks really add up.
I also tried to pob some cold resistance scaling memes due to the new cold mastery, but I never got a satisfying result, feels like dot multi is just not that strong a stat on its own.

Nu-Elementalist is just comfy as fuck for alch and go, even if Warden has potentially more damage. You solve accuracy super easy with golems with some decentish defense, you get reflect immunity and a nice ele aegis, and you can slow shit down even further or just go for more damage with the EZ shock node / resist reduction node.

Katabasis is very difficult to scale and warden provides assloads of damage to it (dot tincture with great uptime, shock node, avatar node).
It's more like there's no point in going anything but warden because nothing will do anywhere near enough damage with katabasis.
I'd love to be proven wrong but I didn't see any good pobs. I've seen elementalist and other class pobs that cost like 30x what jung's warden version costs and do half the damage or less.

The shock tech is interesting, you autoexert battlemage's cry with Ball Lightning of Static, and this periodically dumps a million hits on targets. You're not gonna have 50 shocks on every white mob but uptime is very good for when you need it.

It's really not a solvable issue, even if you juice up the difficulty to gauntlet level, it still becomes a matter of using stuff that's available to trivialize it, and postponing the build you want to play for later (which is gay). They should really just give you an unlockable campaign skip that you need to unlock once per league, or let you do something like being able to finish it prematurely if you kill Kitava in A5 or some shit.

I played jungroan's exact version (with utula's, kaom's binding etc) in 2 different leagues and I played a different build that used the same shock tech.
It works in maps especially with the dual tamings version (which increases those small hits a good amount), I didn't really try it on gigantic exiles or some really trying shit.
As I said in prior posts, katabasis is rough to scale and you hit a plateau in terms of damage very early. Even if you guarantee perfect shocking on the hardest content, I just don't see how you're gonna push the skill past like 10-15m with the dot version regardless.

I think we gotta admit that POE1 doesn't have particularly exciting moment-to-moment boss combat and that simply adding swirlies on the floor you gotta dodge isn't super fun.
I think some creativity could be applied to get MORE out of bosses (adding shit like being able to juice the campaign to make the bosses harder/possessed/wisped or something like that), but I don't really expect GGG to go hard on this for the campaign. All the campaign "improvements" they do seem to be pretty barebones asset reuse, wouldn't expect much on that front.

I like the loot drought of ruthless but I don't like the fake scarcity of supports/auras (they're not rare enough to be fun to find and not common enough to not be annoying), and no movement skills+gimped flasks is fucking ass to play with.
I think they need to undo some of the ruthless limitations on skills/flasks and just go all in on increasing loot scarcity and monster difficulty. The support gem scarcity was clearly just an experiment for POE2 purposes, and it's a stupid and unfun mechanic that is neither difficult to deal with nor satisfying in any way.

In a sense, yes, but this is something players are now very aware of and everyone just prepares for it, and the game lets you. I don't think anyone who played a prior gauntlet died to those. every juiced farming atlas tree is the combination of one (1) mechanic that drops loot and the loot multipliers for it (generic quant nodes, deli, beyond etc)
if you do breach you click the breach points and generic quant and map drop chance (i think thats the strat)
abyss you click the abyss points and generic quant and scarab nodes
titanic exiles same thing, you click the rogue exile nodes, generic quant, rarity in the middle, ritual and some scarab nodes

if you get the loot dropping mechanic for free, you have 30-40 points left over
