and all of these have different connotations. If Shadow means "Humans" then the story is saying Maria is an exception and he does not blame islanders (even though he would kill them just to take out the humans)

If Shadow meant people, that explains why he is still standoffish when dealing with anyone who isn't human. This is easy to understand since he literally never goes out of his way to say anything truly *specific* to humans. Humans and anthros are not culturally seen as a different population in the Sonic franchise,. If Shadow merely means "people" then this is consistent

While we're talking about fandom misnomers, we don't actually know if female hedgehogs are meant to have short noses. Amy is literally the only named female hedgehog who appears in the Sonic games. When you play as a female Hedgehog in Forces, the model doesn't shrink your nose to match hers even though the entire model changes in other ways. The models have dimorphic faces across the board but did not include hedgehog noses. We just take this for granted. Every time someone makes a female version of Sonic or a modernization of Sonia and Tania they get rid of the nose even though for all we know they aren't actually giving them a female hedgehog trait but a trait specific to Amy.

Everyone points this out but I think the answer is pretty simple GUN recorded it, GUN is aware that he is making a terroristic threat.
Everyone asks why GUN didn't go to the ARK and desmantle the Eclipse cannon.

Because they couldn't. Space travel is a difficult and expensive procedure. The ARK is inhabited with wild artificial Chaos. GUN has robots guarding the place. They have no actual reason to do this. It's like knowing there's a nuclear bomb floating around earth.
There is nothing to worry about unless someone with enough resources to build their own space shuttle goes into space and activates it with the chaos emeralds. That is so unlikely that risking peoples lives to prevent it isn't worth anyone's time. They saw the threat and didn't take it seriously.

It was stated in Rouge's report on Project Shadow, the Truth of 50 Years Ago. After Gerald is imprisoned on Prison Island, G.U.N. forces him to continue his work on Project Shadow.
The most likely scenario is that they found Shadow's capsule and gave him back to Gerald, and then they didn't supervise Gerald enough, so Gerald mindraped Shadow under their noses. But interestingly, Rouge's report said they never found Shadow's capsule. So there's this weird implication that Gerald just created a 2nd Shadow on Prison Island and the original one is gone/dead/trapped. They dropped that plot point so we'll never know.

I suppose if you think about it, Maria failed to save Shadow just like Shadow failed to save Maria.
