Truly awful balance is when only 3-5 characters/classes are viable in a whole roster and if you stray from the meta even a little bit you lose. the game's balance is awful because the heroes that take the least skill (melee/dive heroes, every support and tank) are the strongest while heroes that take more skill (like hawk and widow) are ass. there's zero reason to git gud at the game when you can just pick a melee hero, walk straight into the enemy team while mashing buttons and win
plus my biggest problem with balance isn't even that it's bad right now, it's that it's always been bad in the same way since release. the meta has basically not shifted at all in almost a year, it still feels like I'm always going up against the same unfun garbage. the best heroes remain the best and the worst heroes remain the worst.

extremely unpopular, countless more beloved characters still not in, even villains are more respected

i tried overwatch 2 after like a year long break and its fucking stark how much WORSE that game feels to play. all the heroes are so slow and shitty and limited, and about half the roster is dedicated towards making sure no one does anything fun ever. i think at best only like 1/5th of the heroes are something i enjoy playing, whereas in marvel rivals it's about half. bucky remains incredibly addictive still after like 50+ hours on him

i think the only thing that still feels pretty bad about marvel rivals is tank gameplay, but at least there is enough wiggle room there that you can just be "ranged dps but tanky" or "dive but tanky" and do reasonably well

It's not even a question of good or bad balance, but stale balance.
An unchanging meta where heroes mostly remain the same is terrible for live service games. What live service games needs is to keep things fresh, which the balance changes for this game has not done. I'd even argue it's ont of the big reasons playercounts are dropping. This is especially true for roles with low hero count and niches like strategists and vanguards. The heroes being as shallow and one note as they are is another factor which makes changing things up even more important.
Live service games, especially long lasting ones, forcefully change up the meta and how heroes play for this very reason.

It's highly likely the devs at Netease don't realize this at all and think trying to pump out heroes, limited modes and skins at the current pace is all they have to do.

Overwatch believes if your dps/tank is too strong it needs to be nerfed
Rivals believes if your character is too strong they can add an eventual counter that brings the power level down
Strange as the very best undisputed character of the whole game in season 0, then the moment Emma releases turned into the absolute worst pick in the entire game till she got multiple nerfs and he got every nerf he ever got reverted and then more buffs on top of that now leaving her at STILL S tier and Strange at A tier
and so most dps and tanks have the capabilities for 1v6 powerful gameplay while the supports have denial and countering with their ults vs overwatch where the supports job is to use a power up ult to make OW dps/tanks feel like Rivals dps/tanks for a few seconds

She's the strongest character in zombie mode.
You just need to change Darkchild to Demonic Will, and then stepping disc to reaper's resolve.
Then you max all the blue traits (for eldritch Whirl), and you buy only purple & blue buff in game for all the damages.
Then you just spam her shift, while holding down left click, and see all enemies within 360 degree and in a huge huge aoe range all dying left & right.
I basically carried the team in nightmare 3 by doing nothing but pressing shift & holding left mouse button

I fucking love it.
And the robot looks awesome as well.

However, it's relaxing.

My Zombies experience so far
First Round
>play Thor because tank player
>get 2 Jeffs and a Magik
>riot shield zombies are all minibosses
>theatre section is a painful war of attrition and cycling deaths that takes a solid 10 minutes
>desperately claw at witch while barely scarping by the first shield and dying at the second
Second Round
>Play Blade because he's pretty fun to flex to in the base game

Admittedly this was Normal difficulty with no additional perks or levels, but I will now on be avoiding Blade for the sake of my own enjoyment and silently hope nobody picks him for that same reason as well. Seems like something relaxing to do after China hands you a 7/15/1989 on a silver platter in your ranked game

That's my first time attempting nightmare 3.
Went through the whole thing with only 1 death because I was killed by explosions behind my camera.
Just play Blade or Magik & it's easy. Their self sustain is ridiculous.

i just played/finished my first round of the zombies mode, holy shit was that boring. just pick blade and constantly upgrade your sword attack damage/speed, you can just stand in a crowd and hold attack. I had 888k damage, next highest player only had like 300k.
this is really discouraging for me, since i hoped they would one day add a fun PVE mode - now i feel like they might not ever be able to figure that out.
