you can play every job, and while the gearing system and lockouts are shit, every role has more jobs now, jobs have never been easier, and melding is even more railroaded, so there's no excuse.

just one correction: there were exceptions to the community mindset, like picrel. BLM had the highest DPS during all of SB, but it was the hardest to play and worst to prog with, so it was very hard to join a static or PF (which was the case until they made the red WHM it is now)

The real answer to which expansion has the best job design is stormblod AND shadowbringers. Stormblood still had a lot of retarded jank that was a holdover from arr and hw but in general most of the jobs had really strong identities with a lot of unique quirks still and most of them played really well. Shadowbringers axed the jank completely but we started to go to far in the other direction and ended up with dogshit like modern day darknight and general over hemonginization especially of tanks. But the jobs that worked well in shb were absolutely peak and we got the best of old job identity and complexity while everything also started to play silky smooth at the same time.

Good raiders don't care (the parsetrannies), they know that in the end every job composition can beat any fight in the game. It's the more casual raider playerbase ( PF, casual static etc) that enforces the job meta because they need every crutch to beat a fight.

I remember a good example during EW of some anon that played MCH and was 99th for that fight. But because they wiped to enrage the MCH was instantly blamed because "MCH bad amirite" even though the MCH was better than everyone in that party.

I'm personally not a fan of the very fast paced they went with some of the modern fights. I think Eden had the best sweet spot and SB jobs would've been fine combined with some of the 5.0 changes.
also Deltascape was weak and too easy, but Ultimates were a completely new thing and they were really fast for the time, plus fights like O8S and O12S hold up really well and have great pacing and spectacle. again, Eden was better, but people look at O1S and Byakko with modern jobs and think that's how SB played.

I never said that. I said WHM was fine, not every job was. some jobs had good job design, some had very good job design.
the thing about being able to clear content is that it's bar that should be crossed for a job design not to be garbage. if it's literally not possible to clear with a job or it makes clearing so hard that nobody will pick the job/ban it from groups, then that's an obvious problem, but it's not the standard for good job design and I never said it was.
SB SCH and AST were great despite their flaws. SB BLM had great design even though almost nobody progged with it and it did have a couple of clunky parts.
the real lukewarm drivel that people push is "current job design is fine because I like the encounters being better", as if these were mutually exclusive, and "SB job design was bad because the rest of my job's role was so much better" (NA WHMs in particular) like that makes this atrocious job design acceptable, let alone how long it's been the same shit
