I'm actually glad I don't fully understand. I was there for the midnight release of Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST, and Reach (Didn't much care for Reach, but I understand if some people like it). I played the campaign of 4 one time and noped straight out, didn't even touch the multiplayer, and haven't touched the franchise since then except to replay older titles on OG hardware. I also have not played MCC.

Morbidly curious how the covenant ships will look. They weren't great in CEA, The 5 mangled their aesthetic just like it did everything else, the forge stuff that was added to infinite was mostly shiny purple reskins of existing assets.

The remake is just to make some cash back on the time they have spent developing tech and a workflow for the Halo Infinite sequel. CEA was a similar project it's why so much of that was done externally. Because you are just altering existing assets you can focus a lot more on management and tech. Gearbox and epic both did these when I contracted for them.

What was it? Well, we don't know all the details, outside of knowing that it's a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved with more info to come. One thing's for sure though, it certainly was something BIG.

Also keep in mind that the build is early. This isn't me damage controlling or saying it will be great, but it was clearly stuttering all over the place with glitches and issues. I wouldn't be surprised if that gameplay was the best out of like 20 attempts to get a clean playthrough, and it still had issues.
I also have a theory that TSC is probably the most faithful mission level-design wise.
I expect the second half of the campaign to be more significantly different, especially the Library.
AOCTR will be a lot different too probably.

Hyperbole aside (from the hirer's POV) history is fully of people who get into positions where they can mess with something an intentionally do so, either by pushing for an action or supporting it in some manner.
There's an unfortunate amount of misplaced ego involved despite the fact that so many of these people have a job in game development at the moment due to a series created by other people (they'd be in lower paying jobs or unemployed right now otherwise).
It's incredibly short-sighted, especially on the part of executives weighing down the actual game developers with terrible mandates and wrong priorities. All they ever had to since 4 began development was make Halo to the best of your ability (which Ensemble set a great example in doing despite all the factors working against them) and then use some of that money to create another series, either after or on the side, that was free to be very different from Halo. There's more than 1 way to make a super-soldier game. We could've had it all.

- Sound Effects sound terrible. Maybe that can be reworked before release, but those guns are pathetic
- Abundant performance issues everywhere
- Unnecessary changes that triggered me, like the "magnum" or ADS on everything
- Sprinting (only listed in "bad" and not "ugly" because it can be turned off)
- Jen and Steve sound old. It's understandable but still noticeable

- Whoever the guy was in here that spent a year warning about Unreal 5 looking like smeared vaseline everywhere, take a victory lap. The entire visual design looks rediculous. H2A cutscenes are neat but they don't look like CE.
- You're really not even going to include the original game for newer fans, even after beating it or whatever? Maybe I'm old but this used to be a regular thing with remakes and it' not like CE takes up a lot of space
- The fact that CEA has been criticized for using Reach assets for YEARS and they literally are using Infinite assets here feels like the biggest middle finger

- It's like they're putting it out there to die, because holiday 2026 is a kill box for something like this

In general this feels like what we should have gotten back when CEA was announced. Now it just feels completely unnecessary? How hard is it to just put a dedicated team on MCC, add more mod support, and put that on PS5? I am admittedly interested to see how much of the level design they change in other missions. I'm kind of hoping they do, especially in the second half of the game. I'm a library hater but I expect the Library to play better.
So there's potential, but i'm not getting my hope up.

One one hand Anniversary had a "scan" mode which could've been brought back as a little "tactical options" display to hint at little strategies OR some Mjolnir text OR Cortana lines could've done this. After all, are they just going to adjust the terrain for every vehicle blocker? Technically possible I suppose.
On the other hand I get wanting to "keep the fun going" by not blocking people, especially with how often people will have to get used to different shooting mechanics and still be doing so as of their first encounter with Hunters. Basically keep their morale higher than if they had to do some thinking/the intended thing of abandoning the Warthog for a bit. Let them jog their noggin' about getting around vehicle blocks in a new campaign after they're already fairly interested in Halo due to the CE remake. BUT I still think showing them a workaround is possible is even better than just clearing a path.
For me, back in 2009, I ended up thinking after my first run at the area: I know Elites will ambush me. What if I got 2 Warthogs and 2 Marines into this place for an NPC fight? Still, it's likely that just adjusting the terrain was quicker to do than any vocal/text/UI bit hinting at mechanics. It's undeniably a shame that Halo has fallen so low that such measures have to be taken at all.

If you want to take it even further, Halo 4 and Halo Infinite can be seen as remakes of Halo Combat Evolved. I guess with CE on PC, it's currently this:

- MCC CEA: Best graphics by far AND you can buy it, but the sound is broken, multiplayer has some pretty major issues in its core gameplay, and the classic controls are sluggish on controller and don't match the original controls at all

- Map geometry in Halo PC and MCC is still based on the Gearbox version. Sidewinder's teleporters are two-way, Hang Em High doesn't have a lip on the pit, and you can't jump through the windows on Creek.

- Halo Custom Edition: The graphics are completely and utterly fucked, the netcode is trash, and there's no analog movement in multiplayer, but you get modding support, server lists, dedicated servers, and *full* custom map support, and besides the crappy netcode and lack of analog movement, the multiplayer at least works the same as it did originally

Halo 4 and part of Halo 5 are the only game 343i actually put together themselves with their in house studio, MCC and especially infinite has been nothing but wrangling contractors and contract studios. Infinite has something like 5 confirmed studios that worked on it. That is why their dev cycle takes so long and fucks shit up constantly(besides the technical debt). 343 is just an umbrella studio that directors other contract studios into making broken messes of games. Its why everything except Halo 4 is a broken retarded mess because Halo 4 was the only 343i title actually done in house and not through 20 corporate suit games of telephone and Zoom meetings
