Damage didn't seem to scale. We were getting oneshot if not careful. It's just that it doesn't matter when you can M1 across the map. But even if it does scale in the end nothing really stops you from duoing or failing that waiting until you stack enough free rez coins and soloing, if it is actually easier, after all the reward is the same.

the gap between Nightmare 3 and 4 is like jumping from Normal to an actual Hard mode btw

you can't play the game the same as you would in N3 and below because the shit you might be able to facetank in those modes WILL straight up kill you regardless of health stacking and lifesteal, you can't sit in the acid pools or chew through exploders and expect your raw stats to carry you anymore, you have to actually kite enemies and pay attention to your positioning or you're going to get randomly oneshot by a giant zombie. Using your ult is basically throwing because unless you're Thor or Magik going for Darkchild build all you're doing is standing still for a second or two and letting zombies close in on you, with Blade being a SLIGHT exception if you're using his ult for either more mobility or to kill a wave of acid/exploders before they get anywhere near you.

I was playing in nightmare IV vs Namor & Wanda, I wanted to kill Namor first but my teammates lowered Wanda's HP so much she started to do her final move, meanwhile Namor still had his shield intact.... (we all died obviously)

Tested solo and yes there are actually less enemies so just do it solo

I've said it once and I'll say it again. People would rather lose as a Duelist or Strategist than suffer having to play as a Vanguard for a game and win. I ultimately blame NetEase for releasing the game in this state. They knew most characters being Duelist would be a problem from the start and didn't bother to add role queue. And now we are about go multiple seasons with new Duelist character releases if the leaks are anything to go by. The problem will only be exacerbated. Thankfully I am a Hulk main so there will almost always be at least one Vanguard in my lobbies.

They change the matchmaking from season to season to account for plummeting player-counts (Ever notice how queue times have been the same since launch?) and I'm pretty sure they opened the floodgates for generally bad players to now be in your lobbies. I use to get GM, Celestial, eternity players in my Quickplay matches as in everyone had some form of badges and now its complete shitters who peaked at plat-diamond all time, and the worst part is that its also that way on the enemy team.
