Definitely need a team of 4 split into pairs working at either end. Impossible solo. The only time it was possible solo was during the Orphix Venom event on the Grineer tileset, which was quite fun. I find that Corpus one we have now to be quite cold and devoid of life, which just sucks the enthusiasm to continue out of it. Use the Fluctus archgun, as it has infinite punch through, makes life a hell of a lot easier.

Not really. I can understand having preferred frames or weapons but an endgame mode incentivizing you to make use of most of your arsenal that you don't normally use isn't bad. Sell a weapon for credits if you think it doesn't perform very well. There are many weapons which are purely for entry level, but still may be fun.
The, Primed / Vandal / Prisma / Kuva / Coda / Tenet / variants of regular weapons you shouldn't sell though.
And to answer your question, whether this is a viable way to level up mastery, it sure is. Any time you level a new warframe, weapon, or companion to level 30, you gain mastery.

Note, there's no rush, you should just take your time when starting off, enjoy the game, learn it's inner workings, the modding system, materials and where to farm them etc.

I suppose I only rate weapons for how effective they are in steel path, so I'd rarely see the Rauta outside of quickly rebuilding combo. It does have a nice chonky sound to it alright.
Its an unfortunate result of power creep, with so many visually well designed weapons gathering dust because of how quickly you hit their damage ceiling.
Alternox, is a perfect example, one I hope they address for Gyre's prime release. It's such a fine piece of equipment, unique mechanism and design, shame if they left this one with the usual slight stat increases.
