North American servers are going to be merged soon, EU servers already have been. I would hope this would bring life back to the game, as many people on the NA west server have simply quit due to low population numbers
>>1531189 (OP)Can you play this game against bots? Or is it pure pvp?
>>1531200Its a PVP mmo exclusively, unless you count aimbots and other such scripts on the asian server, or blowing up unguarded construction bases
>>1531189 (OP)Pretty sure there was an active conspiracy to deliberately depopulate the server to force a merge, so hopefully the discord faggots stop ruining fights and the game is more playable
For the record when i say "pretty sure" its not that there might not be a conspiracy, just that im not sure which server they're on
>>1531189 (OP)Just go play EvE instead
Was decent many years ago when they let you jump around and capture things.
Enjoyed it when new. Had strategy and let small groups accomplish things. Also made the 3 competing faction mechanic fun.
After that was ended it seemed to just become one sided steamrolls and much simpler. There is always a giant frontline, and being anywhere else is pointless. That removed the whole cool factor of a giant pvp planet since at any given time most of the map is unused meaning in reality it is like playing the much smaller maps of typical shooters, just with more players.
Granted once that change and the results were apparent I never got on again.
shame this shit is dead, had some good times on it

>>1531189 (OP)Merges aren't gonna do shit. Above all else, the game is dying because 95% of fights are one-sided slogs where you stare at a (spawn) door for 15 minutes, and until that's fixed there is absolutely zero reason to bother with this game.
>>1547378mergers will be a stop gap at least

Player freedom should not come at the expense of gameplay, and while the current system isn't perfect by any means it saved Planetside; we're still here shooting 'mans 12 years on are we not?
>>1547378This is the main issue with the game, or rather continent/base design. The former dev's blog posts
>>1545096 shed much light on the how's and why's, and the only solution is labor-intensive: continent overhauls. Following Hossin's design philosophy, which took lessons learned from the first 3 continents and was made with lattice in mind, every base must be capable of supporting massive fights. Attacker/defender spawns should be equidistant from capture points, and the paths connecting them littered with cover to break sight lines. No idea about vehicles and I won't say anything until the nanite economy is fixed. Shielded sunderer garages are a bandaid solution but these should be generously sprinkled throughout the game world as a stopgap measure, though perhaps the devs should make the generators destructible like the ones at containment facilities.

There was a lot that was gay and boring about the game.
>>1558521Maybe it is was stupid spawn room slogs against too large to defeat zerg rushes and people being too hardcore and tryhard. I think this game would be fucking cool if you had as many players as it has even now but also some roleplay aspect to it, but I guess these things are too hard to balance out with how many players there can be and how there can be a disbalance between faction numbers.
It's frankly the only mp fps game that I liked tho, because at time when you can have big even fights and tug of war going it's amazing.
>>1560988when you joined a platoon for an alert, you get that kinda roleplay if you obey orders. And it usually came down to that: which side followed orders the best. That was the meta-skill for winning: Organization and getting players to roleplay along instead of lone wolfing it.

>The primary goal of Archaeotech weaponry is to introduce a new, visually striking weapon that aligns with the theme while integrating seamlessly into existing gameplay. This will introduce unique mechanics and features that offer new tactical and strategic opportunities. The weapon mechanics include a mixture of energy-based fire, utilizing heat management systems, as well as biologically enhanced kinetic rounds. Additionally, these weapons will come with their own unique attachments.
>Archaeotech will not be an instant update, but rather a gradual evolution of the game over time. Over the course of the year, new elements of Archaeotech will be released, expanding on its visual and gameplay aspects. This will include new vehicles, weapons, and features, all tied to a larger mystery and evolving narrative.
Devs getting experimental. That last line sounds to me like they want to revive campaigns.
I unironically have never felt infil was more powerful or unfair compared to anything else, and I can only imagine the reason so many people have a problem with it is because it seems to directly counter heavy assault more then anything else and the vast majority of players play heavy more then any other class or vehicles.

>>1558521The game launched to a pretty poor state, most of the major changes they made to it made it closer to PS1 (a good thing). Ultimately I stopped playing because it felt like I wasn't doing anything. I could kill like 8 dudes in a short period of time and it wouldn't accomplish anything because of how quick respawns were, I pretty much stopped completely shortly after the new knives came out. I sort of missed the downtime in PS1 when you're just traveling to a base and had to fly over the wildeness a bit before getting to your objective. PS2 made logistics absolutely optional. Rotary is better for dueling once you get comfortable with leading or if you're in a big air fight you can unzip it in someone's ass and take them out in a single magazine (hopefully)
Locust is okay, better for harassing libs and gals but has so much ammo it can help you learn to lead shots against other ESFs
Banshee is a2g infantry farming only (it sucks after like 3 waves of nerfs and you're better off packing an A2A gun + rockets)
Same generally goes for all faction ESFs, except the A2G guns vary a lot. Airhammer can still one shot infantry, and is able to actually hit other things in the air. PPA is surpisingly not shit anymore because its the only one that didn't catch nerfs over the years.

>>1669951Pre-nerf it was just objectively the worst one. Then banshee and airhammer caught nerfs but the ppa was left alone so now they're all pretty much even and i'd even be as bold to say the ppa is slightly better now since you can bomb peoplpe from a significantly safer distance where the banshee and airhammer have to get within Deci range to be effective. I am pretty sure the reason oshur is hated because it is the least infantry friendly continent and the vast majority of players only play infantry, specifically heavy assault. similar reason why infil is hated, it directly counters HA more then any other class or playstyle. t. light salt main who has never been upset about infils and didnt really understand why they were hated until recently
>>1682346The map design plays heavily into it but for the most part it just turns into tank stalemates until one side starts salt OSing the other or a third party jumps in.
Tridents are cool but are just an attacker farm with how easy it is to spawncamp, defensively its near impossible to win. Same situation with the Interlinks. >>1693514But then at that point just rename it "marksman" because infilitrator implies you're able to sneak through enemy lines. You go could go the TF/TFC route and give them feign death, but that just means people will shoot every and all corpses they see.
>>1693843>Shit would run as well as it did on Planetside 2's launchNot really. PS2's issue is that the game was built around the CPU and not the GPU. Same issue with EQ2 where the game was CPU bound (single core ffs) and had optimizing issues throughout its life.
>>1693517The network coding that allows the massive battles with thousands of players playing simultaneously in the same, huge map is secret, and probably the current devs don't even know how it works, nobody does. For example, star citizen still hasn't figured out how to do it despite it being the entire core of the game they're making, and despite the billions that are being poured into it (supposedly), not even battlefield manages to do servers with more than 200 people fighting togheter and other MMOs with persisent warfare, like foxhole, divide the map in many smaller servers with a player cap. This alone is preventing the creation of a new MMO FPS with massive battles like planetside, even just to make a spiritual successor and the reason why ps never had any competition.
Daybreak is going to go bankrupt sooner or later, after the flop of Planetside Arena they sold the IP to a chinese company, and, as you know, the game is being kept in manteniance mode by a new dev team unrelated to daybreak (the old devteam of Dirty Bomb IIRC), we don't know if they have any future plans, but I doubt they intend to make PS3, certainly not with the current CEO.
The game doesn't really need "modern graphics", PS2 on release looked incredible, they downgraded it pretty hard to make it run on the playstation4 (I still miss the transparent biolabs), a possibile future PS3 really just needs HD textures and the old graphics to look good, but what's really important is optimization, regardless of graphics, it needs to run well.

Fire rate is limited by your fps; it's an issue that's been plaguing the game since forever (and still does). That on top of the other general woes of low fps like input lag.

>>1699988One of the biggest problems is budget bloat. AAA games easily go over $200mil now and studios only make games which they believe will be a return on investment. PS2, despite its technical prowess, is most likely regarded as a failure since Sony shuttered the studio soon after its release.
Talking about vision though, in the hypothetical situation that a company made Planetside 3, or an equivalent, there would need to be some kind of matchmaking system to separate new players and vets. PS2 is far too hostile to new players; it's not just confusing but also they can easily find themselves getting farmed again and again by the same high-level players. Those of us that stuck it out managed to get past that stage, but as wrel mentioned ages ago, the game had like a 99% turnover rate for new players which never bothered to stick around and find out how amazing the game could be. That was the biggest factor in Planetside's downfall.

Dips down to 80-90 in huge biolabs zergs. Even at max graphics settings it seems to hold about the same, I just turn everything down because all the bloom and fog and shit is actually a detriment to gameplay by making it hard to see.
Could probably pull a higher average using an actual distro and being more specific about which proton version i'm using but i'm lazy, just clicked install on steam and it set it all up for me including the battleye runtime.
>>1705767Interesting, thanks! That doesn't seem too bad. Although I have an nvidia gpu so maybe I'd get fucked on linux with planetside.

Even then to be able to do all that for free is impressive whereas I dont think I could last an entire season on path of exile without dumping $20 on stash tabs.

I can actually see it taking longer cuz a way higher % of planetside players that are left are among the elite and if your enemies are harder to kill directive grind will take longer. >>1781927>shotguns (NC) are OP lets nerf shotguns>nerfs somehow dont hit mattocks fucking wrel
>>1786392Mattocks got a separate nerf, in fact basically all MAX guns got nerfed hard but even so the NC one still excels at close range which is exactly where you want to be in a MAX.
TR's a close second because it can perform well at midrange and some other funny niches, but VS's max is just sad.
osprey is pretty much dead outside of primetime on certain days (and when the yuropoors with no lives swap from miller to it)
>>1781927he just meant carbines on infils
Those old posts from the game designer really hammered home why ps2 was so fun, and why any sequel will probably miss the mark. Fundamentally the game was made like a sandbox, and most actions you could do would contribute to your war effort somehow.
But because there's no pressure, no metric to optimize other than 'kill red dudes capture red bases', you can find your own fun. I remember I got my friend into it who didn't like competitive fps much, simply by having him be my tank gunner. Eventually he wanted to drive harassers, and we'd pull stupid stunts like finding the best rocks to ramp off into bases.
It was also cool how the aircraft worked, I played this quadcopter sim a while ago and couldn't stop thinking how cool something like this would be in an mmofps. Who knows, technology is improving, maybe some scrappy upstart studio makes the next best thing.
>>1791427>Who knows, technology is improving,Technology is, but devs aren't. If anything they're regressing.
>>1791827Oh yeah no triple A gaming is so terrible new games from big studios don't even register anything on my radar. Smaller studios can do more and more things nowadays, and their games can be amazing.
>>1786392>NC maxes get min damage buff so they're less useless at range>mattock gets one whole extra pellet 3 > 4>NC maxes can now reliably engage longer range targets with mattocks and other guns can potentially finish off fleeing targets>community immediately bitches because NC isn't allowed to be good anywhere that isn't C4 range>most damage changes reverted, some guns outright nerfed, mattock goes back to 3 pellets>hacksaws still redeemable garbage throughout all this>still haven't gotten slugs back>charge removed so NC maxes can't suprise buttfuck people with grinders/scattcannons before eating a C4 brick or deci>blueshifts remaining 0 damage falloff carbines is totally okay thoughhey at least NC max shotguns are all automatic now so I don't have to click as often. hope that new JGX-12 is good for- oh.....
>>1795858c4 isn't even real just pop your shield and look at your feet, I can't believe that strat STILL works
besides, the real danger nowadays are fucking AMRs which pretty much prevent any outdoor/long range MAX usage so at least NC is still king of doorway
>JGX-12man
such a great idea in concept, dogshit to actually use
VS truly won with their meme no-drop cannon but the kingsnake ended up an unexpected winner with destroying the new sunderer reactive armor
>>1795945yeah the increase in AMR usage ever since they got buffed into being snipers really cut down on the viability of maxes since now every infil main can offclass as an engie and pick up easy max kills while working on the sniper aurax. the JGX-12 would be usable if we had the old vanguard overshield so you could survive getting close enough to brawl with it. if anything the JGX-12 should've been a big railgun or a gigantic shotgun for the memes.
>>1795858Maybe i missed a nerf, but last i checked you had the healthiest tank with the best regen from nimitz and like 80% damage reduction from the shield, AND jgx is the highest burst damage in the game.
How are you complaining when im over here picking between the magrider who's special talent is scumming sundies from a mountain, and fucking chimeras who get a giant hitbox and a top gun that cant shoot backwards. Even if i swap to TR, yeah i get slightly ahead on damage when i have the 30% fire-rate boost up, but i also have a longer peek window because burst fire, harder firing while moving for the same reason, harder plane sniping for the same reason, and my faction special is "you cant move and optionally get a bigger hitbox that glows so everyone knows where to shoot"
If i could i would swap to the vanguard on every faction, its got the best stats by far and a rock bottom skill floor
Plus
>wost at rangeYou still have the saws, anchor, masthead and cyclone right? And your max has the shield. If i fatfinger F my max fucking explodes
>>1804563>and optionally get a bigger hitbox that glows so everyone knows where to shootGod that shield was such a cool idea in my head when I rolled TR before learning how tank combat actually worked.
>Give the best brawling tank the best peeking gun>Give the best long range tank the best brawling gunWhat were they THINKING
>Give the magrider something even more bullshit to use from the next hex over on top of a hillAt least Chimera can stay even further away from the fight where it wont get blown up instantly :)
>mastheadI'm still mad about this one.
>>1804563admittedly I haven't used the nimitz since the buff so it might be better than I remember, but it doesn't matter that the vanguard gets the forward shield since most fights take place at long range where the prowler and magrider are king. a squad of lockdown barrage prowlers will kill render distance vanguards before they get close enough to properly brawl, magriders abusing their antigrav faggotry to dodge every shot at range goes without saying. idf you try to cqc fight against a vanguard then of course you're going to lose, but if you sit back and snipe at them from long range you're going to win most of your engagements. chimera is just a sad sack of shit that's only good for being a ghetto colossus and really needs the havoc ability that was tested on it to be anywhere near useful as a support tank.
Also
>gauss/GODSAWNo longer 167min damage weapons, a fair nerf since they were pretty busted before.
>anchorCQC lmg, maw is just as good if not better
>mastheadonly busted when it was an infinite range flak gun, now its just meh like the other empire AMRs
>cycloneare people really still complaining about this gun? the canis is arguably just as good despite the windup to hit max RoF, busted unstable rounds on release not withstanding.
>>1811012>only busted when it was an infinite range flak gun, now its just meh like the other empire AMRsIt still is, the only nerf it got was from a 4 meter burst range to 2 meter, so you have to aim a little bit at least now instead of just hipfiring into the sky. It's still quite disgusting and I love it.
>a squad of lockdown barrage prowlers will A squad of anything will kill anything bro
A squad of lancers dropping out of a valk on the nearest mountain will erase every single tank on the fight.
A squad of fags with AMRs will do close to the same thing.
A squad of valks buzzing by with pelters will take out anything they feel like, a bastion included since i'm pretty sure they never nerfed the pelter damage type doing insanely more against bastion weakpoints.
Hell, a fucking squad of chimeras at render range with the no-drop cannon would do even better because they don't even have to aim since we're talking about the most ideal perfect scenarios.
Fuck magriders though I agree
>>1679536Yeah, there is nothing quite like this game, that I played.
I need to return. That said, there is a certain balance in the game where it can easily turn not fun when one side starts to zerg too much and such. It's when you get a decent tug of war when it starts to get fun. And when people avoid camping spawn locations too much.

i was actively playing and enjoying the game because i am a psychopath who actually plays for combined arms and not just 1 of the arms but the server merge managed to drive me off despite being hyped for it entirely due to the way asians and presumabley some west coastoids play the game and i want my old emerald back more then anything
>>1791427no we have to balance around infantry mains and esports for some reason
>>1819764The shitty performance, balance, and so on did not bother me because the gameplay was fun and there simply isn't anything like PS2 on the market. But then they changed the respawn system which made fights end a lot quicker, and then even worse they introduced Oshur where fights didn't even fucking happen in the first place.
All I wanted was to sometimes drive a tank, sometimes shoot mans, and sometimes mess around with the people doing those other two things.
oshur is great people only hate cuz reddit told them to
>>1812937>unironically adding Martyrdom to the gamewhat a fucking shitshow

I'm genuinely good at every fps I play but PS2 doesn't reward my manly style of play so I just kamikaze all the time

>>1531189 (OP)This makes me want to install the game again but last time I uninstalled I promised myself to never play it again lol. Just wasn't having fun with it anymore but if player numbers are back to covid lockdown numbers it's tempting.
>>1838284holy fuck what are you doing smed?
they're so late to the NFT fad that literally nobody even cares enough to hate it anymore, its just going to get forgotten and ignored
>>1838301I wouldn't say its back to covid numbers but its slightly better than before. I dunno, I don't take f2p games seriously enough to worry about reinstalling it or not. I just play it for a bit and get my fix then stop.
>>1839080the game has never been worse
playing on Europe is pure suffering, there are very little fights available and we're at the point where there are more vehicles cucks than infantry in a fight

Back to TF2.
>>1846444At least the rest of us F2P can actually both text AND voice chat in PlanetMans2, unlike TF2 which banned all comms but "MEDIC" for f2peasants.
I like to read global chat in Star Citizen on NA servers sometimes though, but simply writing "ahh" in global is certainly forgivable unless it is using excessive pornouns or toxoid professional antifa hate-4-hyre.

Hex system was GOAT. Smaller outfits fighting smaller outfits lead to some interesting battles. Anti ghost capping squads was fun and high pressure.
If you wanted a big ass fight/zerg just go to the crown. They should have redesigned the other maps to have crown like center battles on other continents.
Instead we got the gay lettuce system.
The game was even better in beta back when galaxys could spawn troops like a sunderer/ams. It appears they added that back into the game as a module years later.
I miss the hex and the change to lettuce killed PS2 for me.
>>1844044Horizon is my gun-fu, I made VS specifically because of that gun and I have no regrets. Newton on NSO is good too, but it's no Horizon. God, what a sick nasty gun that is. Perfect accuracy, PERFECT accuracy for half your shot every time all the time, and the second pellet at worst hits the body. Disgusting thing for anyone good with Icarus or Catlike Drifter jets.
>>1855040Lodestar galaxy should be able to deploy in the sky, or at least within the no-deploy zone.
Actually, you want a real hot take? The spawn system was better with unnerfed routers. They should have put bounties on the routing spires instead of crippling their range
>tfw ywn hot-drop onto an enemy construction base >drive around it will stay the meta until the game dies
>>1855040I don't mind it, real problem is that there is very fragile balance in the game with zerging, where fun tog of war turns into one sided stomps.
>>1862490>Lodestar galaxy should be able to deploy in the sky,It sort of can, any squad can spawn into a flying galaxy and leap out of it.
Hell, you can do it with a valk. 3 valks and you can endlessly drop your entire platoon on top of a base to die and respawn in the valk and drop right out again. Really underrated tactic I don't see often. Granted all it takes is one retard in the spawn room to start shooting at the valks but hey.
The real secret sauce? A Flash with the Logistics Spec implant can spawn your entire squad directly into the room you drive in. That shit is peak clown car ops.
>>1531200supplementing the game pops with AI bots/agents would be a good idea at this point.
they even have a neutral NS faction that would be perfect for that; I think we're at a point where the AI in games doesn't have to be dogshit and could pass the gaming turing test (can play in the sweetspot between noob and sweatlord)
