Strongest Space Station 14 player

Every few weeks I will have an auditory hallucination of the admin BWOINK sound effect in real life, I don't fucking know why and my skips a beat and I just stand there in shock for a few minutes every time it happens like I'm reflectively preparing to talk my way out of a note or ban. It occurs intermittently enough for me to forget about it by the time it happens again. I don't have any other auditory hallucinations (at least, I don't think) and my visual hallucinations are very minor. I was only a small-time shitter when I used to play SS13 so I don't know why I'm being tormented like this after quitting. Sometimes I wonder if it's the work of God himself, like either he's playing a joke on me or it's punishment for my sins and blasphemies.

SoS got ousted as host some time later because everyone had grown sick of him, he handed hosting over to the headmin at the time, An0n3 (a New Yorker).
His hosting was pretty short lived, maybe a year and a bit. He wasn't terrible but not great either but the worst thing he did was when there was a schism in coderbus (I think in 2015) because of some shit between Errorage and HornyGranny, Errorage had banned the head coders off the forums (and there was much rejoicing from the players). This is where MSO enters the picture, he sets up a new site and forum and wiki.
Instead of backing Errorage (who, despite growing up in a former communist Slovenia and so was allergic to windmills of happiness, was considered to be fairly reasonable by the players) An0n3 instead backs MSO and HG (and Oranges) by changing the server's website to MSO's.
An0n3 would later go back to community college, get a finger raped in the ass by a college chick, change his name to 'Timberwolf' and become a furry, and then shortly after hand over the server hosting to MSO. Who, now controlling the website/wiki and servers descended the server into redditness, marking all dissenters as 'rarely plays' and confining the most vocal to the 'cuckshed'.

From what I remember people were already fed up of coderbus and set up nt-station13 before Erro's fall out with coderbus
The fall out was due to Erro having yet another sperg out with coderbus (for what raisins I have no idea), but they were petty assholes about it and removed him from the game's dev credits.

That was the final straw between Erro and Coderbus, and a lot of people took his side because like I said it was incredibly shitty and petty (and people already disliked coderbus for making shitty changes to a game they didn't play (no joke, a lot of them at the time were just college kids that only coded to get experience with opensource projects))
NT-Station was a proposed alternative fork which would be a codebase coded for the players by the players.
But An0n3 went with sticking with the original codebase ran by coderbus because he didn't want to fracture the community (which ended up being a hilarious lack of foresight because a year later HornyGranny made his infamous "The separation of the codebase and server is absolute" shartment)


There was a few comments about how people who'd invested lots of the time into dev and hosting and seemed to have done nothing else with it.
There was a few success stories.
Erro moved to England and works as a professional coder
RockTBen sold some company for millions
And Ikarus used his experience building Metastation to land a lever designer job at Bioware.
But of course you'll note that these were all in the very old days, way before /tg/ went mental.


As for why all the crazies seem to come from the Pacific North West?
You know how there's a big dump of toxic waste in the California/SF bay?
There's also old mineshafts which also got stuffed with old chemical waste.

Which makes me wonder if I've been mistakenly been blaming Anon3 for the website shift, and it was actually the fault of SoS and HBL.
I doubt Intigracy had much say in the matter because he burnt out of the role quite quickly because he was always butting heads with HBL. This wasn't publicly known until much later, so Intigracy unfortunately got a lot of undeserved hate. Deuryn was basically non-existent, so with Intigracy also gone, that left HBL having free reign.

HBL btw was a total fagmin, a newfag too (not just as an admin), and probably one of the main drivers of /tg/ transforming into tg.
Something I just remembered because of HBL, SoS used to host the server in his house, but due to all the DDoSings his ISP told him to fuck off, so the server ended up being down for months whilst he moved things to a CoLo.
During that period someone set up a temporary host (I've completely forgotten who that was, might've been Pinku?), this might have also been the event that nt-station was born from.
HBL, who was a newfag player, cozied up to the host and managed to get admin access to run events.
Because it was rare to see an admin actually add fun to the game, when things went back to normal and HBL got official admin it wasn't long until we had the first headmin elections and HBL got one because people only knew him as that funmin that did events and got elected on that principle.
The problem though, because he'd only been a player for a short time and an admin even shorter, no one knew what a fag he was until he basically had free reign over everything.
As Ikarrus said, what a cluster fuck that was. And goes to show you that elections shouldn't be a popularity contest.

Back in the early days of /tg/station you had Admins, Coder Admins (Codemins), and players.
Admins made sure the server ran properly while the Codemins both admin'd *and* worked on the code.

Eventually some players wanted to work on code and get their features added. They did not give a single rats ass about running the game or keeping things running and it showed in what they would try to add.
The player coders would try to pitch their code to a codemin and sometimes stuff would get added.
Eventually there were far more player coders than Codemins and they ended up with more and more power.
But at the same time most still didn't give a shit about keeping things running, nor would they make good admins.
These types hated the admins and remaining codemins because they held veto power over the various asinine shit that would get pushed.
They slowly grew in power and came up with "The codebase and server are seperate." in order to get rid of the admin veto.

Because back when the split happened headcoders Cherridan, Giacom, and Hornygranny were infamous for not playing yet making big changes to the game without discussing things on the forum.
Ironically though Paprika was a playercoder but they earned a reputation for grudgecoding nerfs (floor tile throw damage was one of their most hated iirc)

It was also really hypocritical that the separation happened in only one direction, coders got a pick of one of the three headmins, and they chose HG several times, who was the one that made the 'separation' statement.

Turned out I was right and they are banning even direct connecting to servers they have beef with. Draw some fanart. Anything. Lifeweb is dominated by the artwhores. They get everything they want. You can sprite? Great! You're basically in, look on YouTube for gameplay videos, and you'll be able to get a feel for how the game's sprites look. Make sure you find up to date footage, though. The game received a big update around the beginning of 2025, which made everything look nicer (and killed the playerbase LOL), for best effects - combine method 1 & 2.

Wait until November/October. The game dried up so much that they completely forgot about their seekrit club doctrine and started letting in anyone competent enough to write in English. The servers open up, you get to submit a little write-up about yourself, and if you're not a bumbling retard - you're in. Just write about how much you love to roleplay, and how much D&D you've played - even if you never touched the fucking thing.

They are capable of doing both. It's 2 separate actions. Some servers are only dehubbed, some get both dehubbed and authbanned.

If they don't have complete control over the community, which will happen when it hits a certain size, then inevitably server owners will become more popular than them. I was thinking about applying SS13's formula to another community driven persistent world game roleplaying game, but it creates a LOT of problems. A lot of SS13's emergent gameplay only really works, because everyone is online at the same time.
That being said one of the only decent SS13 devs is making a persistent server, so it'll be interesting to see how that works.

Oh there was player collision for a week or two, it was on Wiz (official servers) and everyone hated it.
For few reasons:
- certain things (like holopads) that shouldnt have collision had it and this made moving any pullable object pain
- maps werent made with collision in mind, so it was annoying to move around, especially in maints
- this made balance around fighting impossible, clake self bombing, friendly fire etc. was way way more common
So people malded and finally they decided to remove it.
I really hope they will push for other more interesting things rather than playing again with collisions.
