Played Dune and really enjoyed it until I realized it's pretty shallow compared to Conan, so here I am starting a server for, well, me really, but you fags can join me if you want. Server is lightly modded with the centerpiece being Conan Classic: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3477130829 . Read the description if you're gonna play here because it makes some pretty big changes. Also notable is The Purge Mod which brings back a re-made version of the old purge system in addition to the new purge. Also, Al-Merayah Reborn which brings back the raidable NPC fort. The fort is disabled for now, but I'll enable it at some point in the future.

You can play it singleplayer, but I think they still want you to be online and connected to their servers - and yeah, they added battlepass, cash shop and twitch drop bullshit. They gaasified it after chinks bought Funcom.
It really sucks, I liked the game before, as a singleplayer game.

Pretty much. Content-wise they just came out the other end of a self-imposed content drought in order to focus on bugfixes. The results: no content's been released, and also not that many bugs have big fixed. Earlier this month they released an updated devkit in order to get the game in shape for what they describe as a "major update" after which "most mods will need a re-cook." The game's seven years old at this point, though, and it's unclear how much of the mod developer community is around/actually planning to do that.

So in short: there's an update in the near future. Nobody knows what's in it. Maybe they're flush off of the Dune money and are actually putting some money back into the game. That sounds a little bit like wishful thinking, though.

I'm enjoying it so far. I'm self-hosting a server (I just run it from my own machine using the official tool for it) and using generally the same settings as that Anon, which is to say I leave everything default except for the stuff that's set the way it is because the assumption is that you're playing on an official server 24/7. So, like, time-gated stuff that doesn't tic down while my server's offline, such as crafting times, are just set to 10x speed. Similarly, stuff designed to prevent griefing, like the Land Claim setting that despawns objects ten foundations away from your base, is set to the absolute minimum so that I can have rocks and trees in my base. Otherwise it's vanilla. There's something to be said for exploring a huge world designed for large player populations on your own. It's a big, lonely kind of adventure.

I'm also building a little base in the highlands.

One area dune really did improve on that conan needs to do is it actually fixed lighting to not go through walls.

They really should have kept expanding the Conan map. The devs were even dumb enough to be like "IT'S AS BIG AS IT CAN GET!!!!!" And then modders easily made it bigger.
