My concern would be that two weeks is too slow to do much on a low rate server, whereas if we play a high-rate we're just going to crash into pvp without enough time to prepare. So we'd really have to find a sweet spot server.

Do browser mmos fit the criteria for the thread? I saw one called HighSpell that looks like it's going for a Runescape 1 feel. Wouldn't be hitting endgame in 2 weeks if it's paced the same as Runescape but could be good for social.

RIFT felt like dogshit to play.
None of the skills had any real feedback and the way you used them was extremely cookie cutter.
The game has zero build variety despite that being a major selling point thanks to the way the skill trees work and most of the content is boring and uninspired, just slap an elemental glow on and call it a day garbage.
The main saving grace RIFT has is the world was actually a treat to look at and explore to a point. But that's not enough to carry a game. Once I hit the desert canyon place I lost all will to play because the combat was not engaging and the quests sucked.

Once you pick your first soul tree there is no reason not to dump all your points into it.
Then, you have an 2 additional trees and the point distribution in 99% of cases is to dump the remainder into one of them leave the third for the first passive or self-buff.
Even if you pick different auxiliary trees, your character still plays the exact same because the majority of your kit comes from that first class where 61 points have to be dumped.
The entire reason for this is due to the way that skill gain works. As you dump more points in to a soul tree, you gain more of the basic skills of that tree, and the game incentivises you buy every single node of your first soul.
I'm not saying you can't be a tank or a healer or whatever on the same class, just that you have no effective choices beyond your first. The rest are made for you, and I think that sucks.

The art style is one of the few things I think RIFT nails. Like I said the world is a treat to look at and explore for the most part. The zones felt interesting and in my time I saw many different biomes and locales that normally go ignored or unused in other MMOs.
I get that you're feeling very attacked as a result of your beloved game being disliked by the majority of the thread and the greater market, but stop being a disingenuous faggot about it at least.

If you've got a counter-argument or a rebuttal about the issues I brought up I'd be glad to hear it. I can only give my opinion as a tourist thanks to the way we play these games and the fact that I didn't enjoy it enough to keep playing.
Info about RIFT was hard to get during our time there and it's entirely possible there's something that you can say to change opinions on it, so long as you don't keep shitting yourself in a fury and lashing out whenever people say they didn't like it.

So I had a look, there's 5 pservers, all dead, the one you are talking about they decided to scrap and move to creating a Aion pserver instead due to low interest. Could you link some of the servers so we can investigate?

New focus

As open beta test population really low, Infinium has question the reason which lead to the game itself. Allods is good, it's epic but not suitable for morden gamers. Infinium now set focus on Aion, a much weaker catalyst but with Aion Companion feature, it will adapt. Meanwhile, Allods server still online but has much small attention. That's why new server named "Wild Sector". Even less cared, if error or accident reported within new server, it will be take care of.

I parsed the ESLspeak so you don't have to:
There's a 'guild experience pool' that fills up as guild members do things in game that give experience. There's also some different guild point system that can be spent in a 'guild shop'. The Infinium coordinator is how you activate buffs and disperse items from these poorly explained systems. I think this is how Infinium handles some of the cash shop buffs. I'm willing to put up with Telegram if we need a volunteer. As neat as the features sound they're also a great magnet for dramafagging and clique truthers
It's a newer server and he seems to have fucked off to work on some Aion project so I dunno how stability is going to be. But their most recent test had a dozen or so people (or accounts, at least) involved so we should be okay

In the future, should the vote end at least a day earlier in situations like this, where we might need to research servers for two games? Was the fear that people would early start if we locked in a game/server this early?

Fairly certain that was the concern, yes. Having a big "GAME STARTS ON SATURDAY AT [time]" disclaimer attached with a photo of the poll's closure would potentially alleviate that worry, however.
You can't fully stop fags who feel the chronic need to get ahead of everyone else even at their own expense, so having more of a lead-up to vet servers before they're called upon wouldn't be a bad thing. We don't want another ToP debacle happening, where outdated and/or surface level research ended up biting us in the ass when it was showtime.

Are Official/Sunshine/Infinium all our choices this time around? I'll make a poll if so.

Very. I briefly participated on steam deck. Proton barely works, occasionally you'll get better results with WINE, but 90% of these games already don't function and attempting to emulate windows syscalls just make them entirely break down.

for the alice desert portal - suslander it looks like the dailies give ~10g and i got 10 tokens for exp that gave me 6860 exp when I needed 66k to level (at 21)
just pick up crystals at the oasises (didn't find any at the close ones, but a lot at the far ones)
the ifrit thing is weird, there is an even called Storm (check the calendar, should be the top thing) and during that is a like 20 minute event
you have to target mobs and use a thing on them to buff them and then hope some high level player kills them
there is also an event after the storm where you are supposed to hunt a big worm but i could not find Reva to get a spear

the tropical island minigames will let you buy a 165% mount (for 400+4200 tokens) or you can do 30 days of dailys to get one (parrot fucker)
if you grind it you can probably get 50+(100-200) an hour, but that is still like 25+ hours of grinding to get a mount
don't recommend going there without a completely empty inventory/quest log

The first and second servers lasted about 3 months each. I keep the game running up until nobody else logs in anymore, and only then do I shut it down.
On this latest version I did a lot of customization and downported renewal maps and monsters, but keeping the pre-re mechanics. It also had way more players than before(we peaked at 151).

It has reached the required player critical mass to become self sustaining in the long run, with a core community and new players trickling in regularly.

Hi, I'm looking for an MMO or similar experience to play with a friend or two. We want it to be doable with two or three person parties, and an emphasis on fun mobbing and bosses that are at least somewhat interesting. Just to be clear, when you say fun mobbing you mean grouping lots of enemies at once and killing them, right? Or do you mean fun PvE in general?

Most of the games we've played are older, and before the trend of bosses having strict ddr patterns. We haven't played it together but I'd recommend City of Heroes if you just want something fun to play, there's lots of character building depth and flavor, but it's not mechanically super deep.

If you play AoC through Steam, ignore the 'US Version'. Apparently the US and EU servers were merged at some point.

How many people are actually playing each game? I've been looking for a random MMO to play for a bit but can't decide which one to play. I've played MMOs like tree of saviour and Maple Story with people from /v/ before and it was always fun.

It depends on the game. A successful one will get 20+ to join our guild, and there will still be like 8 active players in the second week.
When the game isn't appreciated, 10-15 people join our guild, and player count gets as low as 2-3 by the end of the second week.

The player turn rate varies wildly. Though it seems like the past few games have had a drop in playerbase, I think a lot of things have to be taken into account - how "famous" or successful the game was in its prime, linux compatibility, private server features, visual flare and shilling all come into play here.

I think Dragon Nest peaked with over 30 anons (or was it 40?) for instance. ECO also had as many if not more. I'd say the average is probably about 16'ish. A "good one" will get over 20, which the last few haven't been (8~14 players approximately). This is barring Islet (cutesy minecraft, a bit shallower and more rigid, but more customizable) which was extremely good. A handful of anons are still playing it one month after. I think it's kind of become the fall-back if you aren't enjoying current game.
