2004scape is the live 2004 server of the Lost City project, a project aimed at recreating lost Runescape versions, down to the Runescript.
Every cache revision that is available will slowly be recreated by the Lost City project, after every feature has been tested.
The Lost City engine is the best engine to ever reach the private server scene.
This server will have NO Quality Of Life features, and will exclusively be a recreation, not catering to playability.

Once I can practice the Fight Caves locally I might learn the mechanics so I can use my last OSRS bond and get my fire cape. Bonds were like 3M the last time I bought them, don't think I can grind 14M for another so I only have two weeks to make it happen and get my bank account down to a F2P size.

I can tolerate updates catered to mobile users, runelite plugins for clues, players being banned for having harmless fun with uptight grinders, etc. But as soon as the owner turned the game into a gacha slot machine for discontinued rares, I put my foot down. I don't like being forced to log on every weekend to grind my life away because the admins are desperate to regain a fraction players that they have lost. Pickles would never do that. Pickles would give every player a rare, a slice of pizza, and a handshake to thank them for enjoying his project. Vscape may be small, but at least it has tegrity.

My main gripe is that there is no reason for this to be a drawn-out event that requires an unhealthy amount of grinding for a chance at a tradeable holiday item. It should have been more in line with how bunny ears were introduced, with a chance for players to receive a rare simply by logging on. The only reason that I can see for handling it this way is to drive player engagement and boost your playercount. It's transparently opportunistic, and inconsiderate of people who don't have free weekends, or actively limit their computer time. If a developer cares more about their playercount than the players enjoyment of the game, then I am out. I don't have any patience for that bullshit.

i personally don't understand why and how holiday items became "rares" outside of gower handing them out to randoms and ceasing to do so after a while which drove up all the demand and pricing to whatever it's at. perhaps calling them rares originated from this, but today they're being treated as "rares" instead of "holiday items handed out in a completely backwards manner contrary to what they're called", and from there we end up with this fiasco.

i and you, probably, could then argue the solution should be to correct the flaw that somehow caused the "holiday item = rare" equation to emerge, and just give them out to everyone without limiting their supply.

How have they still not fixed the camera distance yet? It was not this far zoomed out in 2004. You had to bend your camera all the way down when long-ranging someone in the wilderness. I personally care more about RuneScape preservation projects than about playing on Anon's private server. If Anon's private server were also a FOSS historical preservation project I would probably be interested in it over Lost City/2004scape. I think the 4th of July etc. sound like fun private server additions but I don't spend enough time playing games to invest in every RuneScape offshoot that seems interesting so I stick to FOSS preservation projects because I value keeping retroscape accessible decades into the future more than having one fun private server today.
