This game will always give you a 3-star version of any collab character for logging in during a collab event.
They're level-capped at 60, so they won't be as strong as if you had the proper 4-star version from the gacha, but at least you can play with them.
And I'd say that it's not really that much of an issue unless you're trying the High Difficulty Op. events where the enemy levels do go up past 60.

Every collab event also has replica weapons/gear in the event shop, which can be leveled to 60 for cheap and gives the movesets of the collab character in question — these can be equipped on anyone you want. So going through the S:G event and snagging those is a good way to get some firepower.

You also should've gotten one swimsuit ticket that lets you obtain the swimsuit of any regular AGA character directly without having to rely on gacha luck. The ticket giveaway should be active until the 26th, 14:59 JST — so if you're going to try resetting to get 4* Kurisu or Suzuha, it'd be best to do it within the next day, so that you could still get the swimsuit ticket. It seems there's no limit to actually spending the ticket, so you can take your time to decide whose swimsuit you'd use it on.

Sure. Just clear the regular Steins;Gate event, while completing all the missions (use at least one gear skill during battle, no one in your team dies, and have the specific weapon type equipped the mission asks you for) and you should have enough medals to buy the things from the shop. Plus, you can also use the 5 daily autoplay tickets on the last V-Hard mission which is meant for shell farming for more medals.

Do you mean the replicas, or their personal gear? Just so you know, the personal gear for each character which can eventually be leveled all the way to 80 has red backgrounds.
You get those from either farming investigation maps and hoping or you buy them from a shop, but 120 coins a piece is likely too expensive for a new player, and unfortunately for collab characters that gear shop is only available during the event so farming is likely the only option.

Yeah, the red background ones are the proper versions of the unique gear that only Suzuha can use, and you can eventually level those up all the way to 80, but it takes much more in resources than the replicas.
Replicas are just 22.400 Gold to get to level 60, with no additional materials needed, while the real deal needs like 130k Gold and some upgrade mats as well for level 60. Level 1 to 80 is like 620k in total.

Maybe it's like Eri on my side? I had her in my Ice team for a while as the third member, but I didn't really use her much since most events you only need one character for, and high level stuff forces you to take multiple elements, so for Ice I usually just take Amane (with a SPD280 bottom though, SPD200 is so slow) and DoA-Kasumi if I need a second one.

I don't actually play. I eventually swapped Yotsuyu and Base for Kaoruko and Miku for daily weapon requirements.

No, it doesn't. ファン増加 is Fans Gained, and it's specifically worded that way so that the initial "lore" numbers don't influence the sorting.
If it was just "Amount of Fans" they would've used a simpler ファン数 wording for the sorting option.

By the way, I looked it up, and there's only 7 people who start around 20k fans or more: Akino, Meika, Rei with 20k, Rin with 30k, Kasumi with 40k, Kaede with 80k, and finally Anna with 298k fans..
Ginny starts with 2 (two) fans.
So a much more likely explanation is you had Ginny on your teams as a third wheel, so she didn't see much play but got the fans regardless.

I watched the anime while it was airing and really liked it and randomly remembered they localized the console game yesterday so I ordered it, I remember in the threads that the anime supposedly took a very different approach though. does the mobile game have any of the slice of life that the anime had? I don't play mobile games and would mostly for character interactions.

Yes, it has a bit of SoL in the main game. There is a fan translation patch for the DMM PC ver though.
