I think it's because the game is very heavy for your average phone/tablet user. Most of my friends for example want to play it but they can't because won't run well on their phones. And Apple users have issues running it. A pc port could save it. But it does have a very nice and niche fandom. Also the game is very f2p friendly. They confuse me in terms of the love development between MC and Rafayel as they always seem to rely on some life-or-death situation for her and a need to ascend to godhood for him to make them fall in love (I guess you could say The Sea of Golden Sands differs in this case for MC). Anyways, it feels very conditional and forced at the beginning compared to the myths of other LIs where the progression of the relationship seems to be more organic and natural for me. Has the merman Rafayel fallen in love with her when he first heard her voice during his imprisonment at the bottom of the sea, which he described in his monologue as being like a sun? Was he intentionally distant and dishonest about his feelings until the end to test the waters if she would willingly fall for him again, or was it just him being tsun? Imo he didn't make it easy for MC to rekindle her love and deliberately made her actively seek him out to deepen their relationship if she wished to survive. All of his actions struck me as very calculated and somewhat insincere. Also, it seemed that the MC's love was not yet pure enough after killing Hawkern, judging by her dialogue with Rafayel. Her feelings appeared to reach the culminating point after resonating with Rafayel later and discovering the truth about his unspoken affection for her.

In most cases the company owns the ip and artists are simply hired to design the chara visuals for it. So while the artists are rightfully credited for doing the art/design, the copyright holder is still the company. It's also not like the artists are the ones creating the personalities or backstories of the charas either so it's far fetched to think they "own the chara". You'd need ishida sui levels of character creation involvement for the copyright, otherwise the artist is just a member of the encompassing game dev team. It is basically. It's a simple card battler so the dull gameplay loop hits harder. Their dev team is clearly untalented, seeing as it took them more than one year to implement the cabin feature, so there's little hope in new gameplay/mechanics. And like others have said it having a small cast is a detriment, once you realize you only like 1 character from the ensemble you're fucked for most of the year (unless it's Eiden I guess). And this isn't saying the game would be better if they added a new guy every week, but when the main appeal are the boys if most don't interest you there just isn't any point in sticking it out.

If you can say BG3 is a gay alternative to LaDS you can also say any other 3D rpg with a gay romance is a alternative.
