Ok RNG gods worked in my favor. First turn I used Owlbert and Meng, hoping Mengs HoT would land on Tyrantino. Then attacked one Choi with Jeffrey so at least some damage is minimized (as he does more dmg at 100%). Then I hoped Tyrantino would get attacked by one of the Lockes or Kumo to trigger his extra damage. Next turn basic attack with everyone and kill the Choi that Jeffrey damaged. Now pray that Meng is still alive and have Code:B and Tyrantino defend. Hopefully every enemy targets Code:B or Tyrantino with their EX attacks and not Meng. If Meng is still alive by the time you get his EX you should win. Activate his EX and then use Tyrantino's nuke. If you have a really strong Tyrantino the fight would basically be over at this point but mine isn't. Kill Choi with Code:B's EX and then just finish up the remaining enemies

I built a very solid f2p account and to me investing into mikeroo cost pennies, skill, level, and star wise. Yet he deals damage equivalent to a high 3/low 4 star xxl for a fraction of the cost (comparing when they're at the same level and skill levels, of course). His base stats are on the same standard as XL buddies and a few XXL buddies and his ex deals 2x damage twice (twice because its 2 turns) rather than 2x or 2.5x in only one like basically every other buddy. He's a free grass fighter

Mikeroo is good because he helped me clear wood tower.

Exactly, you're praising his qualities as a placeholder for better fighters. XL characters have passives increasing their base stats & damage so Mikeroo will not be able to keep up. I've never touched Mikeroo and got to 130+ Wood Floor using Yuhee as main attacker and some others cleared 150 using the weasel.

Few months into the game, you will beat yourself staring at a 5-star Mikeroo rotting in the storage. Increasing bell income through optimal PTJ workers means your XL guys will also reach high evolution ranks.

If you wanted to climb the tower, there are significant better picks such as Spunk, Fogue, Owlbert.

Regarding tower/combat ability, L buddies are meant to be placeholders for XXL buddies in the first place, because it's unrealistic to get 15 high leveled xl/xxl buddies for each of the elemental towers this early into the game unless you're a whale. It's kind of contradictory to say Fogue and Owlbert are better picks when they're essentially "placeholders" as well. Other than Spunk (assuming he won't be outclassed by any XXL in the future, which I am doubtful of), L buddies don't keep up to XXL buddies. Even water buddies, which we lack right now, will have XXLs released in gold bell banners which are arguably better investments because that's the highest pull rate for a character we have and therefore the easiest way to 5 star using pulls. So if you don't count XXLs/XLs since we're talking about the best L buddy choice, not the best XXL/XL, Mikeroo is one of the best for combat/towers.

TLDR; L buddies aren't meant to outshine your best XXL/XLs, they just meant to reduce the cost of upgrading 5 characters of each element (since L buddies cost a lot less) and you barely lose damage output depending who you upgrade. Mikeroo is not supposed to be the best PTJ buddy, but he's one of the best fighters.

And like I already said, I have enough of a surplus of materials that investing into Mikeroo isn't much a problem, if I had to beat myself up over something it will definitely not be because of him.
