Basically the only answer I have for his mons is Honchkrow or Infernape with Shadow Claw, and obviously the latter gets fucked hard no matter what while his team seems tailor made to counter Honchkrow and Drifloon.

That's kinda it. In DP, your mons are significantly weaker and you don't have the luxury of elemental punches for coverage. In Platinum, your mons are strong enough to OHKO all of their pokemon. They don't really get to fight back.

I've done every single piece of optional content in the game besides Contests and haven't used a single repel, if I have to grind more beyond that then the game's just badly designed.

I would have actually gotten it the first time I put Trick Room on Bronzong but I forgot to take Choice Specs from Gastrodon from when I fought Flint so I couldn't Ice Beam the Garchomp and it kinda snowballed from there.
But I got it now with minimal issues, probably would have gone better overall if Lopunny was anything but switch fodder.

Diamond is because every previous protagonist has been named after the initial game so why not here too? Lucas can just be the alt timeline version of the male MC that works for the professor.

Platinum Chomp is piss easy. You just use a water type and ice beam it since you now have the levels and stats to take a hit (two if you switch into a resisted flamethrower) and OHKO back. Weavile also now consistently shits on Chomp since it can easily learn ice punch in Plat.

About the only thing you'll find better in DPPt for a fast physical attacker is, well, Garchomp.
It's a shame it can't learn Shadow Claw though, but it gets Close Combat so I can't complain.
