Tranny egotism has already surpassed Unbound. Unbound is probably the best you can get following the traditional game formula (with Pisces possibly being an equal), but limiting yourself to that is an utter shame and an indictment to the creativity displayed by most of the romhacking community. Hopefully we're just starting to move past it, but we'll probably be filled with more slop until we receive something truly innnovative again.

Is it considered cheating to look up evolutions and BST for clover playthroughs?

I'm going through my first time and i'm currently on the ruse cruise.

Big fan of the difficulty scaling atm, but i'm worried that it's going to snowball into solid walls that will be difficult to grind up to after I get past the boost that pokemon evolving are offering me.

Do people actually play it without fast forwarding as well? For things like egg hatching and grinding? I haven't resorted to it yet, but I was wondering if it somehow respected your time in a way that the old games didn't.

I played it awhile back, it wasn't anything special.
Compared to Pisces, Johto was only mildly remixed with some additional areas or total area overhauls sprinkled in, and you still end up progressing through the region in a similar order to the actual Johto games (following the "you go left after Ectruteak" path that's become commonplace in the fandom rather than nonlinearity, of course) with mostly brand new gyms and the rare returning face, though rather than going to Kanto once more, you get a little original series of islands that aren't too special (especially on account of the fact that your access to Megas is locked to postgame, thus the postgame was tasked with hamfisting all of the Mega Stones into its dwelling, so one area is literally just a series of optional gauntlets for some of them because there were simply too many to account for).
Speaking of Megas, wouldn't know about how Meganium, Feraligatr and Johtonian Typhlosion function, but Mega H.Typhlosion was utterly hilarious because it gets Contrary, allowing you to brainlessly spam Overheat and Eruption in tandem to sweep virtually everything in postgame.
It's a dexbloat game too, so you don't really get a good feel for Johto being Johto because everyone's busting out a clusterfuck of mons from every generation up to 8+PLA.
Story isn't anything mindblowing, but your rival being your douchebag older brother does manage to remain pretty funny when it keeps landing him in deep shit.

Everyone knows it and has been thinking it I'm just the only person brave enough to say it out loud. Let's be honest with ourselves, every generation Gamefreak gives their designers a list of quotas to fill. They are expected to put a certain amount of filler pokemon in every generations pokedex where there isn't any expectation of putting in serious effort to design some pokemon, just throw something out there to pad the new pokemon list so it doesn't look unfinished, while they are supposed to put real effort into making the handpicked chosen pokemon who have souls and actually matter.

It's not just about them being shitmons (colloquially coined based on gameplay viability through stats). The filler trash in the dex is also based on boring copied tropes like a route 1 bird and route 2 bug every game, and uninspired, lacking, boring, uninteresting designs like my moms bird or my moms larvae-pupae-moth. Nobody would miss any of these things, like wurmple, taillow, mothim, cherrim, chingling, lumineon, watchog, leavanny, florges, meowstic, aromatisse, slurpuff, barbaracle, heliolisk, hawlucha, dedenne, klefki, toucannon, gumshoos, lurantis, tsareena, comfey, oranguru, passimian, komala, togedemaru, and bruxish to name only a small fraction. I used one recently for the first time in the Tourmaline demo that got posted here a while back. It was a rare swarm encounter and got given a cool ability that (iirc) lets it resist water/ice/electric moves, with the trade-off of a fire weakness. Was fun to use it, and I intend on using it again when the full game drops.
Alternatively, it got a Mega form in Elite Redux that looks pretty powerful.

I used to use Floatzel in nearly every single playthrough of DPPt, like the generic Sinnoh team everyone used but swap Lucario with Roserade/Floatzel. I was thinking of using it again in Altered Platinum at some point because it got a cool new blue shiny and some new tools to work with.

Was planning to use it in Elite Redux at some point, Simple + Growing Tooth (+1 attack when using biting moves) seemed like a fun gimmick.
I've also personally been "haunted " by shiny Bidoof line for years now, ran into at least 4 now from Platinum to PLA, that combined with the 2 new shinies in Elite Redux is more than enough reason for me.

And I could go on. The point being, what seems like worthless dex and route filler to you could be a breath of fresh air for someone else who's already used most of the popular shit, especially when the romhack dev puts effort into them in some way.

I think romhacks having all 1000+ mons and routes more clogged than a Taco Bell toilet are gigabased... granted, they include a dexnav with some easy way to scope out each route. The whole Dexit seethe was largely in-part due to people no longer having access to every mon in the latest game(s), romhacks are the only avenue we have for that kinda thing nowadays.

go into the game's files (folder you unzipped the game into\gamename\Audio\BGM) and replace the tracks you don't like with mp3 or ogg files (type must match, haven't tested otherwise but just use the same file type just to be safe; changing extension via renaming .oggs to .mp3s and vice versa works) that have the exact same filename
for convenience you might want to make a replacement preparation storage folder where you copy tracks you wanna use as replacements into it, then rename them to the filenames that you're replacing, then once you've got that ready paste in the replacement tracks and replace all
when you hear them ingame you'll hear your better replacement music rather than whatever eargrating and/or repetitive crap you'd hear in a vanilla installation of the game

What I look for in romhacks is SCOPE and THEMEING.
Pokemon Orange is Kanto plus 100 odd Johto Hoenn Alola mons because the game is set in Pacific islands. It has an island THEME. Emerald Seaglass finds a place to slip in everybody, 3rd gen and below, in a way that doesn't stand out while not limiting access to new evos if the player wants 'em. Its SCOPE is gen 3+

true, though i don't mind if some details like the star and thunder prints don't show up on the sprite (it most likely won't). since i plan on it being a GBC romhack, it's pretty much impossible to make a 1:1 recreation of the artwork as a sprite

good question lol it's mainly because i like the aesthetic and because i wanted my playable characters to have something else to them besides "i like pokémon and i am a pokémon trainer". i wouldn't mind seeing if i can incorporate baseball to the story or even gameplay one way or another

usually with baseball backpacks, the bat hangs upside-down. my dumbass just forgot to add the lower pouch that specifically prevents the bat from falling off. in any case, thanks a lot for the feedback!

The way I imagine it is each gym having a sign on the door similar to pic related that displays what the level range is, and you confirm it before entering.
The level curve is fairly consistent, but I prefer this to a generic "You can't leave midway through your challenge" message I had previously.

Curse also inflicts a flat 15% damage debuff from any Pokemon that is cursed, prevalence of trapping mechanisms here is to punish players who would abuse / avoid the curse status since it is still a volatile condition.
Seems to be a consistenly good challenge. Shuppet almost always comes out last due to the AI, and the full revenge kill kit makes it a decent finale to the fight, since you're typically down to 1-2 mid-health mins.

Okay, someone help me out here. I've read everywhere that the starters for Enhanced Emerald are supposed to include Beldum, Litwick, and Ralts, but I am seeing Joltik, Riolu, Rockruff, Shellder, Bagon, Vulpix, and Petilil. The game version says 11. I do not see a more recent version.

By adding as many gen2 evolutions, eeveelutions, legendary birds, and starters as applicable.

Would need to see move sets. It definitely suffers a bit from repeats (3 Steelix, 3 Rhydon, 3 Arcanine, 2 Venomoth in consecutive leaders). I don't think repeats are a fundamental flaw, power is power, but that's the difficulty with managing unique parties of six for 12-14 trainers, you just run out of mons eventually trying to stock a roster of ~75 matchups

After some testing, I've found that I've somehow set things up so that the player still gets a ribbon for battling trainers even if they lose.

I'm now trying to:
1. Figure out where I went wrong and how to fix this.
2. Decide if I even care and if it's even worth fixing.

I was making steady progress and a roadblock like this could force me to redo EVERY trainer and that will really kill my moral.

Elite Redux is definitely a lot. Strips out all of the catching and exploration just to have more focus on battling. If that's not what you're into, there's other romhacks that you'll have more fun with, they're not all like that.

Couple of examples that I can think of are Mariomon and Pisces for the most modern hacks, while if you're fine with the classics there's also Clover, Gaia, Vega, etc.

If it's any consolation there's supposed to be some massive game changing updates coming to ER pretty soon at some point later in the year. I'm talking day/night visual changes, seasons, following Pokemon, 2 extra community made shinies for every line, (more) new areas, updated Battle Frontier, a massive post-game, and more. Hopefully by v2.6 at least the glitch has been fixed, I've been holding off playing it again myself.

Super Gold 97 is like "what if GS released in 1997 like it was planned at first" while Reforged is more like "what if GS released in 1999 but it kept every idea, area and betamon from the 1997 build". They're very similar, but Reforged is closer to the official GS releases in terms of polish. I think both are good in their own rights.

Alright, more or less back on track. That wasn't as bad as I feared. I still need to redo some things because of this, but I can do that while doing other things (the details don't matter).

I've set it up so that ever trainer now can talk or battle, and each trainer gives a ribbon of themselves upon victory. If I can, I might make those little prizes do something, but that's for after I go dark. I think the worst is behind me, and now everything from here on i going to be easy.

These are the trainers I still need to write dialog for. I wouldn't count on the final build being ready till October or even November, but I'm feeling good about putting it out before the end of the year. I finally go dark and I'll leave you all with the finished game, and a skeleton to use to import whatever you want be it trainers or more fakemon.
