Lol no, the Mega design in the OP had to completely alter practically everything about the original to make it look good.

>Gave it an actual defined upper torso and shoulders so the body isn't just a tube
>Extended the tiny tacked-on Concavenator hand frills into a functional design element, and removed the distracting red accent from them that would draw the eyes away from the main focal points of the design to a much less relevant feature (or in the case of the original design, a completely irrelevant feature)
>Used more varied and organic shapes all over the design, but particularly on the body plating
I think the only real flaw in this Mega design is that it totally removed the red accent instead of moving it onto the back fins somewhere to help draw attention to them (a nice vein-like pattern would fit really well with the whole Thermal Exchange ability).
TL;DR fuck you, Baxcalibur is OBJECTIVELY a fuckass piece of ugly dogshit design that clearly had no thought or effort put into it beyond "omg it Godzilla and he fly like in Hedorah movie so funny and epic XDDDD" and it got completely shown up by a design in a silly shitpost drawing that probably wasn't even consciously trying to fix it. I don't think anyone is asking for a Pokemon that's based on literally nothing at all.
They're more railing against "it's based on something" as a defense for bad designs. Or at most, complaining about Pokemon that don't really go beyond their inspirations to be their own thing.
Look at Slowpoke. What is it? A hippo? An otter? A giant salamander? A sazae-oni? Jadranka Stojaković? An embodiment of the concept of stupidity? All of the above?
You can look for as much inspiration as you want, but the fact that you have to dig so deep and speculate on its inspirations shows that Slowpoke is ultimately just Slowpoke. It's its own thing.
The same goes for other iconic mons like Snorlax, Chansey, the Nidos, Cubone, Eevee... Even Pikachu barely even resembles a mouse.

Compare that to Baxcalibur, who's based on Godzilla and really doesn't go beyond that inspiration. It's just... ice Godzilla.

Wobbuffet is a silly design. If you take the joke away from Wobbuffet you'd still have Wobbuffet exactly as it is because there is no joke to remove, it'd still be the exact same weird punching bag decoy creature with its true body hidden on its tail. Its Japanese name and a minor behavior may reference a Japanese comedian, but these things aren't part of its visual design at all.
Alolan Persian is a joke design. If you take the joke away from Alolan Persian you have nothing left but a regular Persian recolored gray. There is quite literally nothing else going on with the design but the joke of it having a circle tooled round head that kind of makes it look like Garfield, and the whole thing exists specifically to make this joke.
It was practically unheard of for any Pokemon to be designed with the same philosophy as Alolan Persian pre-Gen 7. Now they're becoming increasingly common.

Honestly, the Alola dex was still fine. The forced goofiness and quirkiness was mostly limited to a couple regional forms; not my cup of tea, but whatever. One thing to keep in mind is that Mega Baxcalibur will need to keep at least one central spine in the back so the animation for Glaive Rush's animation still makes sense. The spikes on shoulders designs people like to do with it won't work for that reason.
