>four locked doors back to back
How is this everyone's favorite dungeon, it's indicative of how basic dungeon design is in this game.
>>11781058 (OP)>How is this everyone's favorite dungeonDo you just see in wireframe and matrix code? Look at the image you posted and listen to the theme.
>EH REHHH
Forest is great tho. Spirit, Shadow, and Forest are all excellent.
OOT is hard carried by vibes
Iโm not saying itโs bad, by no means, but the vibes are so fucking good that as long as the gameplay or level design isnโt complete ass, enough to throw them off, people will worship the game.
>>11781074the theme is really fucking annoying, AHREH AHREH AHREH AHREH AHREAH AHREH AHREH AHREA
>>11781058 (OP)Play Twilight Princess if you want good dungeons and bosses. SS too
>>11781120All the dungeons in TP are so much better than OoT it's not even funny.
>>11781135True. But respect to OoT for paving the way and doing a good job too.
>>11781135Im a big TP defender but im a bigger OoT lover so I disagree with ALL TP dungeons being better. I could take a flyer on Snowpeak.
>>11781142>SnowpeakPossibly the most soulful zelda dungeon.
>>11781058 (OP)I think it might be my least favourite. Because of the music.
>>11781120All the dungeons in TP are baby easy and it's impossible to get lost or die
>>11781170I got lost in Snowpeak and I was in high school at the time the game came out. I got lost in every OoT dungeon but I was 9 so thats to be expected.
>>11781135>>11781120Twilight Princess has better execution of gameplay and puzzle mechanics, but all of the in-between is a fucking slog to get to the good stuff. Ocarina of Time at least has nearly all of it done and over with so quickly that you get to the meat quickly, since there's so little fluff beyond the early story segments.
>>11781223All of the in-between is fucking kino
>>11781223nah it's bad in OOT too, and the actual dungeons are tiny
3d zelda was never good
>>11781223eh it's been forever since i played it but i only remember it being particularly bad in twilight lanayru. the dominion rod quest may take a while too if you don't know where the statues are.
>>11781330>dominion rod quest may take a while too if you don't know where the statues are.? They're marked on your map. It's a good opportunity to explore and grab heart pieces too, now that you have all the items.
>>11781379I know Shiek blocks you from becoming a little boy again until you beat Phantom Ganon is there any other trigger to remove her from the temple of time?
>>11781120>>11781135>I just like to point out that the thing that game a generation later is better at doing the thing it's its predecessor did. Wow bros, cracking the secrets of the universe ITT. I think OOT's dungeons are better than a link to the pasts. A link to the past doesn't even have real 3d geometry!?!?
>>11781382oh that makes sense, like i said it has been a while. are there any heart pieces locked behind the double clawshot? i know in hyrule town you can get another quiver upgrade from that guy's minigame.

>>11781058 (OP)Only thing I hated about this dungeon when I first played OoT was the Wallmasters. I was a huge pussy and they scared the shit out of me, so I had my younger cousin go through that room for me, and then I'd get him for the Well and the Shadow Temple, too.
Have a shitty tumblr gif, I guess.
>>11781401>heart pieces locked behind the double clawshot?Hmm actually there might be one. It was a fun location. My favorite one was the cave with ice block puzzles. I loved exploring the world in TP.
oot is so fucking boring
99% running around the game, maybe fight a stalfos or a spider once every 2 hours
I don't know what millennials saw in this shit but it wasn't enough to satisfy me
>>11781482Maybe try a huge black dong?
>>11781104>OOT is hard carried by vibeswell yeah, that's the whole point. Most modern games have zero fucking vibes whatsoever.
>>11781482I don't know what millennials saw in this shit
it requires being sentient. Sorry, anon.
>>11781394The fuck are you talking about, hardly anyone praises TP over OoT and you're losing your mind.
>>11781058 (OP)Because the garden with the well is how I would create my own palace garden.
>>11781853Zoomers do because they aren't all American millennials who grew up in Nintendo households in the 90's
>>11781482You had to be there, it's the only good game Nintendo ever made.
>>11781384You pretty much have to mod the game to do this, though mods that do this do exist already. It's honestly weird that it works like it does, because even the dialogue is unspecific about the sake you rescued and it's silly that awakening any other sage does nothing for this. It was a lost opportunity to make the game a bit more naturally open.
>>11781135I wouldn't know outside of the forest temple, which is not very good (windy boomerang is such a gimmick like waggle and everything else) because I got burnt out after finishing the tutorial.
>>11781461I would do the Shadow Temple for my neighbor friend be ause he didn't like it. I probably did it two or three times for him.
>>11783086gimmick my ass, you can use it to take bombs and ferry them into enemies, way more useful than regular boomerang
>>11783245>take bombs and ferry them into enemiesThat was cool. It was also handy on horseback to collect multiple rupees or to stun those birds. Or to put out the fire on that carriage.
>pre-social media world
>Forest temole music considered great
>Social media world
>Forest temple music is still considered great, but there are people who got memes into their brain and they are now unable to enjoy something because it reminds them of the meme
>>11783470I have no idea what you are talking about and im fairly sure that makes me more intelligent than if I knew. Please dont explain.
Explain to a non-anglo speaker where the fuck do you guys hear "eh reh"
>>11783470>memes it sounds like fucking shit you doofus
>>11783531Show me a pre-2010s internet comment saying it's bad.
>>11783589do your own research, I'm not spoonfeeding someone who likes that racket
>>11783589Nta but I know I didn't like it as a kid
>>11783470eh reh makes me like it more
>>11781120I could occasionally die while playing with three hearts challenge in OOT but everything does <1 heart damage in TP.
>>11783470>got memes into their brain and they are now unable to enjoy somethingThe fuck are you talking about?
The original music does not get overwritten or anything because Eh-Reh was supposed to be a NEW music for the temple. No one thinks of
Ooo-dah-doohhh when hearing the original music or playing the temple.
it makes a good first impression since it has real music after all the kid dungeons having more atmospheric sound scapes.
>>11784061those sounded way better than this so called "real music" you speak of
>>11784251Nothing beats islamic chanting
>>11781058 (OP)I want a Twilight Princess Remaster with proper ORCHESTRATED music. I listened to a couple of unofficial ones and they sound fantastic.
Of course with an option to revert to the originals, since they have their own charm. But still, orchestrated music would add so much to the epic feel the game was going for.
>>11784269A sound so nice they used it... once.
>>11781058 (OP)I can hear this theme in my head from seeing this photo. Why is it so good and haunting?
>>11781058 (OP)>>11781078My favorite for the longest time was Shadow and probably still is, with Spirit being a close second. I always hated the Water temple and still do. But I think there's a running meme that all Zelda Water temples are shit so maybe there's some truth to it.
>>11784606All of WW's dungeon music is also lame. Seriously, I just played through the game again like 2 weeks ago, and I can't remember a single dugeon theme.
>>11784915Really, bruh? WW music pops. Play it again.
>>11784915I just replayed it about 3 weeks ago and yeah, the dungeon themes were more lame than I thought. At least the Sage escort temples anyway. I kind of forgot those even existed until I had to redo them and man do I hate those dungeons.
>>11784438that would be nice, TP had the best music
>>11784949Strange. I replayed it last summer and I liked the themes, especially the sage escort ones. I thought it was gay as fuck that you're forced to do Medli's first, but that's besides the point. It was super cute working with birb girl and wood boy and the puzzles were fun. That game has the best atmosphere ever. It's chock full of character.
>>11781120>>11781135TP has the most overrated dungeons in the series. 1. You're not navigating a dungeon, you're just solving room after room. It's like if you played botw shrines in sequence, but none of the rooms in tp is as much as good. Keys just keep you on track instead of being secret to find to push deeper in the dungeon My point is you have to have some spatical awareness in other Zelda games. There's none of that in TP. All the dungeons in that game are straight forward. You never have more than 1 key at once. You never have to figure out where to go next. Compare that to the Forest Temple in OOT or the Ice palace in ALTTP. TP had the same easy straight forward dungeon design that WW got criticized for.
>TP fags are still trying to group it with OOT
TP never understood why Ocarina was so good in the first place.
>>11786179OoT seems about as straight-forward to me. Maybe you struggled with it as a kid and that left a bias.
>>11781058 (OP)>it's indicative of how basic dungeon design is in this game"Dungeons" in OoT and forward are awful because they're glorified puzzle bunkers. "Shoot the eyeball." "Fetch." "Do as you're told." "The devs way or the highway." "Light a stick to light a torch to open the door." "Take out your hammer to hit a switch to open a door." Everything is so damn stupid when you realize that there's no room for the player to express themselves in any meaningful manner and everything the game asks you to do is to be a puppet to the devs.
>>11786560Collect silver rupee wowee zowee
>>11786569>Collect silver rupee wowee zoweeWrong, it was TOODLE LOODLE LOO!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEmVoyxkWyk
>>11786183TP is built upon everything that was wrong with OoT, meaning that what the devs actually liked about OoT is the rot.
>>11786569This one is the most bizarre of all because it actually betrays immersion. Why would picking a specific amount of floating diamonds unlock a door? Why do the diamonds play music when you pick them? This on par with Starfox Adventures nonsensical level design. Note that they didn't reuse that idea later on bare maybe MM.
>>11786560>"Dungeons" in OoT and forward are awful because they're glorified puzzle bunkers. as opposed to "Defeat the three goriyas/keese/stalfos to get a key/open door", "Place a bomb there" "hit a switch"
>when you realize that there's no room for the player to express themselves in any meaningful manner and everything the game asks you to do is to be a puppet to the devs.bait or braindead zoomer go back watch playthroughs instead playing yourself
>>11781482It was pretty crazy for 1997
>>11781482All the problems with the game become really obvious on replays.
>>11786560You're playing the wrong genre if you feel this way.
>>11786179>1. You're not navigating a dungeon, you're just solving room after room. This is such a nonsense thing to say, considering that is exactly verbatim Ocarina of Time's design.
>>11786583>TP is built upon everything that was wrong with OoTactually wrong, it's everything good about OoT condensed.
TP dungeons are giant hallways. They are barely a step above WWโs. WW and TP were a step down from OOT and MM in every way.
>>11786447>>11786560If you canโt figure out how OoT dungeon layouts are more complex than TPs then you might be a literal retard.
>>11788148This. Literally every TP dungeon follows the same layout. Go left, go right, go straight. Compare that to the forest temple and water temple in OoT.
You actually had to pay attention to the layouts of those dungeons. You can finish a TP dungeon on auto pilot.
>>11788148Maybe I'm a genius because I breezed through OoT
>>11786782Nonsense, the original Zelda game is nothing like that. The. Original. Zelda. NES. 8bit. 1986.
>>11781461You're not alone, anon. Wallmasters were part of the reason why I never finished the Spirit Temple (until a few years ago).
>>11788615In what room did they even appear in Spirit Temple? I can't think of any.
>>11788306Anon. All that changes is the order you do things. That's hardly a mode of creative expression. Action adventure games aren't for snowflakes that need to be creatively expressed.
>>11788935>That's hardly a mode of creative expression>original zelda: you don't need to even pick the sword>OoT: go get a sword and farm for rupees to buy a shield or I the bug kid won't allow you to pass! There's no meaningful expression in OoT by design. That's why sales kept going down after that because all the devs cared about was for them to express themselves at the expense of the player. OoT is not the greatest game of all time and never will because it's profoundly anti gaming and anti player at its core.
>>11788143Only good dungeon is the arbiter grounds
When it comes to actual dungeon design, it's MM > OOT >>>>>>TP >>>>>>WW
I will never understand why non-linear "I may have done all the things you did and reached the same conclusion as you did but I did them in a unique and just for me way :)" fags dont just close their eyes and go on their own non-linear unique adventure with themselves since they are so creative and free.
>>11788958>criticising the best game of all timeI'm sorry you didn't get to play it anon. Truly.
>>11781058 (OP)i used to like Fire Temple the best but since learning some skips and playing with glitches Fire became my least favorite and Spirit and Forest became my favorites. I routed out a pretty sick Forest temple for a race with my brother
>>11788963It's not even good, just the least terrible.
>>11788143TP dungeons are a series of hub spokes, OoT had one hub with spokes. Another example of TP succeeding OoT.
>>11788971no you see, in the forest temple players can go left before they go right, and this makes it a great dungeon..
None of the kid dungeons had keys up until then, so it's got to do the job of teaching you what a key and lock is.
>>11789467Exactly. OoT game design is timeless for a reason.
Twilight Princess is a shallow soulless Ocarina clone. It's dungeons are large and look cool but they have zero substance.
>>11788958Like I said, kiddo. You just don't like the genre.
>>11781058 (OP)I was probably stuck for the longest on this dungeon as a 12 year old after the water temple. It's actually not hard, but I struggled with it for sure.
>>11788306Zelda 1 is effectively just like that, what are you talking about?
>>11788967TP has the worst dungeon design in the series by far
>>11789467 That's true, I never realised that. Also I found it kind of challenging when I was a kid. I did have to spend some time thinking about where to go and what to do.
>>11788958even TP nails this more, it has you fishing, exploring, the sword is handed to you, and you sneak around for a shield. there's a lot of gameplay there, compared to OoT's farming for rupees.
>>11781104This, I went into the Temple looking to save Saria, and that drove the eerie vibes way further. Little did I know at the time, none of the sages could be saved by the time Link enters the temple.
For that rose-tinted memory alone, Forest Temple is my favorite.
The memory of beating this dungeon is livid on my mind.
It was at my grandma's, the room was spacious, tall ceiling, clean white walls and to the left side, a big wall-sized window which led to a balcony, covered in white curtains to the floor. Wooden parquet floor, a big bed in the middle, and right in front of the bed, the TV with my N64 with my favorite green controller (which matched Link's clothes) and the 1.1 grey cart of OoT. Lights were off and the TV light filled the room. Not that Forest Temple is a particularly bright place so it was mostly dim.
The feel I remember was that I was amazed about exploring this whole mansion in 3D inside of my TV. The multiple floors and stairs, the escher paradox-like architecture, the atmosphere, the Poe hunting and the showdown with them, and of course, the spooky fight against Phantom Ganon.
10/10 one of my favorite video game memories.
>>11791354you painted a cozy picture in my mind, anon
>>11790056It was a great intro. Really hits that Link has to leave the idyllic farmer life behind and start the hero's journey. Needing those farm boy skills throughout the adventure was a nice touch. That "awaken as a wolf" shit is a cool allegory. Being a role model for the kids, becoming a peer with someone Link looked up to.
Just a great story with a ton of memorable moments.
>>11791364Thematically its fine, but it feels like playing a 3 hour tutorial, because you are.
OoT has you in the deku tree within 15 minutes unless you are retarded
>>11791364exactly you get it
>>11791538it doesn't matter how fast you get into a dungeon, all emphasizing that does is highlight how little else OoT has on offer.
dungeons fast! and guess what? TP is dungeons better! and dungeons more! as well as other stuff too.
>>11781058 (OP)It's the feel that makes it special. It has a very mysterious uncertainty to it. None of the dungeons have any stand out gameplay moments imo, but most are still fun to experience.
>>11791616I dunno the Time to Sword is pretty important.
You come to Zelda for the gameplay if itโs going to just world build and lore dump on you for a half hour they could at least give you a sword first so you can do some Zelda gameplay.
Oot does it right where you get the sword and get to play around with it before you get the big exposition from the deku tree
>>11791654>None of the dungeons have any stand out gameplay moments imoDungeons are full of neat set pieces to use the hookshot in and lots of enemy fighting, it's where most of the core gameplay happens.
Playing other 3D action games like DMC, Souls, Bayonetta NG etc is where I realize how great OoT's dungeon designs are. A lot of them tried to do similar ideas but they fall flat compared to OoT, and they are saved by the combat mechanics rather than actual level design
>>11791696Top right is the twisted corridor right?
>>11781058 (OP)That's just a way to force the hub and spoke style of the dungeons, like what Yossy's Island did in Marching Milde's fort.
>>11791698The dungeon has 2 twisted corridors, but yes.
>>11791726The other one is Upper left "C"?
>>11791689>I dunno the Time to Sword is pretty important.it literally isn't
Ocarina of Time is so good because! it's so short!
I see, so you will just keep replaying it quickly, it matters for some reason!
>>11781058 (OP)actually it doesn't indicate Shit
>>11791992play the rest of the game and get back to me
Absolute cinema. Time to play OoT again.
>>11790056I love doing a three hour tutorial of dull busywork before I can actually play the game! And then I get put on rails for several dungeons and forced to be a wolf at random intervals until I get the master sword! Great game design!
>>11792205You do you, I would rather play Twilight Princess.
>>11791827>Ocarina of Time is so good because! it's so short!>Twilight Princess is so good because! it's so padded!I would rather have 3 hours of gameplay where at the end of it, I'm in the middle of skullfucking King Dodongo, instead of 3 hours of shitting in the neighborhood latrine before the game finally gives me a sword to swing.
>>11792205>I love doing a three hour tutorialIn three hours you're heading off to fire temple.

>>11782402It's symbolic, you have to save your childhood friend before Sheik will let you become a boy again. This way, you can't just turn back time and see Saria again, before ever "saving" her in the future timeline.
