I used to, but not anymore. I "dropped out" of gaming around 2005-2008. Things were heading in the direction of AAA slop and CoD, while Ninty was in their casual era and then their JUST era.
But as time passed, I realize I missed quite a lot of good games. While I also caught on on a lot of retro, and I lost my "nostalgic goggles" for a lot of it, plus some of it I thought was overrated (see: JRPGs). I'm gonna be honest, today I'm having a harder and harder time finding something to play on consoles before 6th gen; or even if I "know" what to play, I can't force myself to play it (see: RE).
Then again, the list of games I'd check is pretty surface level, just acclaimed stuff of the last 20 years… TES, GTA, Dark Souls, maybe GoW and Fallout, just to know what the hell people play and see in these games. And I still have enough stuff to check from 6th gen.

I'm not superior of inferior to anyone because of my personal preferences in leisure, of course it's natural for us to often feel and be judgemental of other's tastes, seeing ourselves as superior, or maybe even inferior, because of them, but I find that's nonsense and puts too much importance in something that's meant to be a distraction from the constant feeling of competition out there. I feel like I'm just rambling at this point, but my main reason for preferring retro over newer titles is both cost and time, it just sort of fit into my schedule and daily life better, it was a consequence more than an active choice.

Graphics were often designed to look good when beamed onto phosphors, which don't directly map to pixels.
