My autobiographical memory is severely impaired, so I'm more or less incapable of experiencing nostalgia. Personally, I've just never been able to connect with most adult-oriented media (or adult-oriented anything, for that matter).

I find the arcade and "Toys R Us aisle" aesthetics to be a bit overwhelming. Not the kind of space I'd want to spend extended periods of time in. I prefer the look of a slightly muted kid's bedroom.

I have some video game merch. Most of what I have is related to cartoons, however. And a few paintings (lithographs, not originals, unfortunately).
I keep a few games out. Two or three dozen between pesonal favorites, things I'm playing now, planning to play soon, or recently finished. I keep the rest in nifty little media storage bins in my closet.

They're a bit of a band-aid solution for poorly thought out interior design. It lowers contrast by lending everything a similar tone, which in turn de-emphasizes the need for color coordination. My room was always very plain growing up. Not that it was sparse, but it just had a bed, a chest of drawers, and a wooden entertainment center with a TV and my various consoles in it. The walls were wood paneling, the carpet was dark brown, and the ceiling was sheetrock.

When I got older, moved out, and had a "gaming room" of my own, it was mostly an extension of my workshop/IT lab. It's the one room in the house that is intentionally full of electronic clutter, with my primary PC setup and multiple monitors, a second hand server rack, a bench I use to do repairs, and out of date equipment like a magnetic tape reader, an older CRT with a VCR mounted to the wall, and that sort of thing. Filing cabinets storing old photos and magazines stand in a few places. Old cables hang from a coat rack, and on one wall cheap LCD TVs that display the security camera feed from around the property hang.

Despite the utilitarian look, mostly the room is used to play video games on my PC and retro games on an old RCA CRT. I like that it feels lived in and used though as opposed to my room growing up, which always felt sort of sterile.

That depends. If you think you'd find joy in having a little piece of the past, of course it's worthwhile. If everything has to be perfect, then maybe not.

That said, I'm not sure why you think it's impossible to get something that's pretty much perfect. Almost every consumer good from the last 40 years is readily available on eBay. Yeah, it's not as cheap as it was 20, or even 10 years ago. But if you were to average out the cost of everything you'd stuff into an old bedroom, I imagine buying it today would be cheaper than the MSRP without even having to adjust for inflation. You're still talking somewhere in the ballpark of mid-four to low-five figures. That's not nothing. But if it means something to you, you can probably get there.

For me natural lighting like these are essential for my nostalgia filled retro playing. Luckily I'm blessed that my window is big and faces east so the sunrise comes right in my window onto my bed and there isn't a glare on my TV.

However, I'm the sad part of this equation. I get too bored playing retro games by myself where as soon as I start a game I immediately wish I was on my computer gaming with my friends instead. I've become so much of a social and multiplayer gamer as I grew up that nostalgia keeps me enjoying the retro but I can't play them on my own.
