FF7 truly had the most batshit insane enemy designs.

I love it, and it beats the average unoriginal zombie/wild animal roster

I like how wild they went with the colouring to make up for the lack of texturing

Whirlwind Maze, specifically the Rocky Path screen. It's not a very long screen, and of the random encounters on it they only appear in one possible set up. Dragon Riders are also there and almost as rare but you can at least get the chance to see them in the Battle Arena later.

The reason the battle models look so good is because they use vertex painting instead of textures, which is how you make ps1 stop wobbling from texture warp.

Is this from Rebirth? Remake did actually a pretty good job of respecting the designs, we even got Hellhouse, which everyone thought would get cut. What the hell happened in Rebirth?
Anonymous No.11854186 [Report] >>11854221
>>11854091
Really? I thought the reason that happened was because the PS1 only did integer math or had a coarse precision when it came to drawing polygons on screen. Are you sure it's not just less noticeable?

Anonymous No.11854221 [Report]

It's a bit of both. While not using textures reduces the warping a bit, it's also the vertex coords are rounded which cause warping too. Definitely helps to not use textures cause it doubles the effect

Cant imagine the shock in the head of a zoom/alpha whose image of FF7 was probably exclusively shaped by compilation and remake BS only to play the original and realize the game is more or less whimsically cozy classic FF to the bone and the edgy cyberpunk stuff is mostly an aesthetic. FF8 is the game you'd think FF7 is based on everything that came after it, incoherent tryhard nonsense

On a technical level these are more impressive, but I just find myself drawn to FF7's gradient shading more. There's something about that leaves more to the imagination that makes the enemies creepier.

Americans really struggle to fit Japanese tones and styles into their western-centric ideas even to this day. "Cloud has spiky hair he must be an emo boy! Squall has hair in front of his face and says whatever he must be an emo boy!"
