S-video on a CRT is superior to both composite and component. Composite is too blurry, and component is too clean and winds up looking worse than composite on most games. S-video meanwhile reigns supreme happily in the middle, clear but not TOO clear.

For fuck's sake.

holy mother of cope. scart was technically superior, period.

the n64 doesn't even support rgb scat.
you have to cope with mods.

I've modeled my preferred shader to look like S-Video ish

That pic isn't accurate. You are using a console that isn't even designed for RGB. S-video is just a useless middle ground. There's no reason to use anything other than composite and RGB

i cope by playing consoles that supports the superior standard

every console supports svideo.

You mean middle in useless shit
>too clear to blend dithering like composite
>not clear enough compared to RGB
S-video is for retards too stupid to know composite was the everyman's signal devs worked around, and too poor to make an RGB setup.

correct.
plus no dev thought anyone would use rgb.

For PS1 this is fact. S video looks great.

S video fixes dot crawl which is the major problem most people have with composite. These days s-video is probably harder to find that component, some system its easier to get component if you convert from rgb. For me I have a pc engine cd that doesn't really work with rgb but could probably be modded for s-video.
I did a small comparison and found the main difference being white text on a black background was easier to read in rgb.

If my TV supports S-video or component, that's the cable I'm using. If it (or the system) doesn't, then I'm using composite. Simple as.
>inb4 scart
Don't care. We didn't have it here.
>inb4 upscalers on a modern TV
That's why I have a Lenovo Thinkstation Mini, the bluetooth 8bitdo Sega controller, and a PS4 controller.

I love my N64 S-Video Monster Cable that I bought for $65. It's such a nice freaking cable, with the extra long length, the thick insulation and the super shiny gold contacts. It improved the image on my 27" Trinitron so much and I'm so happy with it. Fantastic purchase.

You can tell OP is full of shit by how the comparison uses n64
Anonymous No.11857765 [Report]
no one fucking cares
i played mario on a black and white tv using an rf adapter
now i don't because that's fucking retarded

just play video games or get a life you fucking loser
your crt fixation is not a replacement for a family
Anonymous No.11857828 [Report] >>11857864 >>11857905
The only thing I do when I emulate games, atleast on duckstation is to just use crt guest and thats pretty much it. pretty much looks how it would on a crt i suppose.

Looks like shit. Do you really think the game looks better with lines that cover things up stuff? Either play on a real CRT or just use raw pixels. That filter is so shit it even ruins the ps startup screen

Source for what you dumb nigger? The quality of the cables? That's not something that needs to be researched, anyone who isn't retarded knows the quality of the cables.

Your loss
>inb4 scart
>Don't care
You can get it via a scaler
>inb4 upscalers on a modern TV
>That's why I have a Lenovo Thinkstation Mini, the bluetooth 8bitdo Sega controller, and a PS4 controller.
Oh, you are poor lmao
Anonymous No.11858465 [Report]
all the art was rendered and checked by the dev over composite so you're "modding" the game if you use anything else.

You don't actually believe that guy's screenshot is the worst example of scanlines ever, right?

Calling everyone else a zoomer is not an argument. Learn what TVL is. Also your dogshit cheap consumer TV still feature scanlines, they're just masked by the low TVL.

A filter that puts lines over your image is nothing like scanlines, zoomer

Composite is based.
S-Video is based.
Component on a CRT is cringe. Component on an upscaler/modern TV is acceptable, however.

Have you seen what the PS2 looks like on a CRT with component? It's disgusting. You can count the pixels and everything is a jagged mess while still having that signature PS2 blur on everything.
