I'm trying to figure out the best way to do the NES versions of the FF games and it's kind of a hassle and could use some help. As far as I can figure:
>FF1
Chaos Rush translation patch if you just want a proper translation.
Restored hack if you want the original translation but a bunch of bug fixes and optional changes on top of it.
>FF2
Chaos Rush translation patch + standalone B button dash patch included with it + Restored for the bug fixes patched in that order. I can't find information if the CR patch by default comes with the B button dash or not without having to use the included patch.
>FF3
Just the Chaos Rush translation patch.

Do I have that about right? I know 3 has the Maeson patch which is a full overhaul but I'm just trying to figure out basic things like the best patches and dash patches.

That wasn't the question. I just want to know what is the current best, that's it. It doesn't matter if you played the originals or with translations that aren't even accurate. We have better now and I simply want to know what is better overall because we don't have to deal with bad emulators or translations anymore.

What's the point of autistically playing the originals if you're gonna have to patch 7 times over? At that point you're not playing the original either. Makes no sense

FF1 and FF2 on PSP or GBA are perfectly acceptable versions

I know, hence the Restored bug fixes. I want the original visuals with a better translation, and in 2's case I specifically mentioned Restored for the bug fixes. It doesn't seem like 1 has the bug fixes without getting a significantly worse translation, and 3 seems the most stable.

NTA, but what the fuck is wrong with you, anon? You come on here and demand everyone tell you exactly what you want, which is entirely subjective and incredibly niche, and then begin to equate playing a normal game with some type of sexual fetish or even some type of torturous experience. Kids played these games, anon, and they were happy as fucken clams. Nobody can tell you what the "best" fan mods are gonna be, dude. You've gotta figure that out for yourself. Most people are gonna tell you the originals are better. If you are gonna have some kind of mental breakdown over this shit, then maybe it's not really your cup of tea. It doesn't seem like you're really interested in having fun here. It seems like you just wanna check some boxes and do it in a way that's going to be palatable for your dubious tastes, which is why you aren't getting what you want.

I'm asking the most basic of basic things. "What is the best current translation patch?" and "Is there anything else I missed?" It's why I started the entire thread specifically listing the patches I found from searching already and just want to make sure I didn't miss something, particularly with 2 which I'm not sure if I have to slap the B dash on it after the translation patch or if it's already included.

I more or less deduced that Chaos Rush seems to be the most accurate and best version nowadays but maybe I'm wrong in some way, and I haven't used these patches.

That's not how "cope" is even used. We get it, you discovered an internet buzzword a few years late and want to use it badly.
It IS insane to care so much about "developer's intent" and translation issues that you learn a language just to read original text in video games. Even if you learn the language there's a ton of nuance and common phrases that you wouldn't understand the subtext anyway.

What IS the point? Even if you were perfect in conversational Japanese (which you aren't) what do you gain from this? A few censored scenes, a few scenes where the text was shortened to fit english, and the occasional tonal difference that impacts, say, how you perceive some minor NPC... My favorite games are FFs, but the story is never that deep.
AND you get mad that other people aren't like you. That's the real comedy here.

A few spells don't work, you in effect just don't use them. Spells that do work have a lifespan to them, and even useful status ailment spells will still wind up not having any effect on a group of 9 enemies. You need to actually play games instead of handwringing about what's "broken" and thinking it's off-limits.

It's complete trash. GBA and PSP are the best. But you have to play on emulator for the speedup cause these games are fucking annoying and boring without that.

Not OP, but the ChaosRush versions of II & III are basically script ports of the GBA & DS versions, respectively, just with the text differences in the Famicom originals retranslated. So yes, those are the ideal ways of playing NES II-III, at least until someone decides to make a PR script port for III.
But the bugfixshit is gay insecure bullshit, people want to play the old versions to for the retro non-'QoL' experience, try to find a patch version that just changes the text and nothing else if you can, if they don't exist anymore then you SoL and should just accept the mediocre decline of romhacking and just go for the PS/PR version.
And >>11895364 (OP) ChaosRush FFI is different because it's basically a from-scratch translation since it hasn't been done in ROM form, sadly I couldn't bear to keep playing after an NPC told me "Garland was a good night" (I'm pretty sure that spelling error was corrected now, but still).
